In the first RPI release of 2017, North Texas checked in at No. 57, the fourth-highest ranking among C-USA schools. North Texas Storylines RPI Rankings Released The first Ratings Percentage Index of 2017 was released by the NCAA on Monday and the North Texas Mean Green are No. 57, a 99-spot improvement from where the squad finished the 2016 campaign. The No. 57 ranking is the fourth-highest among Conference USA schools. Strength of Schedule Though being comprised of mainly underclassmen this season, head coach Tracey Kee didn t shy away from scheduling difficult games for her team. Instead, she challenged her team with the 17th-toughest schedule in the nation and the eighth-toughest non-conference slate in Division I. 42 Kelli Schkade, a three-year letterwinner at North Texas, has left her mark on the program s record book. North Texas UTSA ROADRUNNERS (12-17, 2-4 C-USA) The UTSA Roadrunners secured a 6-5 victory over the Lamar Cardinals on Tuesday, moving their record to on the season. It was the second victory of the season against Lamar. UTSA owns a 2-3 mark in Conference USA ac on a er taking two of three from the UAB Blazers last weekend. On Saturday, she added another North Texas record to her resume, tallying the 42nd stolen base of her career to become the program s all-time leader. She surpassed Brooke Foster, who recorded 41 while in Denton. Get Ahead Early The Mean Green have found success in the early innings through 27 games, having out-scored opponents (+8) across the first through third innings. Close The Gap North Texas has struggled at times in the middle innings of ball games. Between the fourth through sixth innings, the Mean Green have been outscored 75-45, a -30 run differential. That is a gap the Mean Green will look to close as they get deeper into conference action over the next couple of weeks.

2 By The Numbers 8 Stacey Underwood leads the team with eight wins. 42 Kelli Schkade became North Texas all-time career stolen base leader after swiping the 42nd bag of her career on Saturday at FIU. 37 Schkade also leads the team with 37 hits. She is on pace for 80 hits this season, which would be a single-season best. 57 The Mean Green were ranked 57th in the first NCAA RPI poll of Three players (Rhylie Makawe, Hanna Rebar and Bailey Thompson) on the team have drawn 10 or more walks this season. 49 Sophomore outfielder Hannah Gerecke is errorless in 49 attempts thus far. 11 This will be the 11th year North Texas has played its home games at Lovelace Stadium, which opened prior to the 2007 season. 12 North Texas pitchers have thrown 12 complete games this season. 191 As a team, the Mean Green have tallied 191 hits across 27 games, a 7.1 hits per game average. Wear it North Texas batters have been hit by pitches 20 times this season, including a game-high four times against UNC-Wilmington on Feb. 24. That s the second-most by a Conference USA team this season. Tournament Teams Head coach Tracey Kee is a firm believer in building a program through a tough schedule and the 2017 slate epitomizes that belief. The Mean Green will face the last four Women s College World Series Champions (Oklahoma 2013, 2016 and Florida 2014, 2015) in North Texas is 3-1 against last year s tournament teams, having defeated Baylor once and Wichita State twice. The lone loss came last week to Oklahoma State. Six tournament-teams remain on the schedule: Florida, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic and Texas. FAU and Oklahoma will travel to Denton. Conference Leaders Several members of the Mean Green rank among the C-USA leaders in their respective category. Double Take Lindsay and Lacy Gregory not only look alike, but they have put up similar numbers this season as well. Through 27 games, Lacy is hitting.353, while Lindsay is at.329, respectively. Lacy passed Lindsay this weekend, tallying her sixth two-bagger of the season. Lacy also leads in RBI and 5-2 in the home run category. Underwood s Improvement Through 27 games last season, senior Stacey Underwood was 6-5 with a 3.62 earned-run average. She had tossed four complete games, while opponents had a.283 average against her. This season, Underwood is 8-5 with a 2.44 ERA and eight complete games, three of those being shutouts. Opposing batters are hitting.238 against her. Dependable Craine Sophomore Lauren Craine has handled her increased work load well this season. She has tossed 51.2 innings to date, opposed to the 20.1 at this time last season. She has decreased her opponents batting average from.372 to.293. Be Perfect Outfielder Hannah Gerecke is a perfect 49-for-49 in putouts this season. Shake it Off The Mean Green look to snap their longest losing streak of the season (four games) this weekend against UTSA. Good Eye North Texas hitters drew 20 walks last week, including a single-game season best nine in game one on Saturday against FIU. On the season, the Mean Green have walked 80 times. DOUBLE, DOUBLE Harley Perella leads the team with eight doubles. The single-season record is 16. Elder Tosses Gem At FIU Senior Jessica Elder (3-4) was dealt the loss on Sunday, though having thrown one of her best outing of the season, limiting FIU to one run on five hits across six strong innings. Elder s lone hiccup was in the fourth inning when FIU s Stephanie Texeira broke up her no-hitter and a scoreless game with an inside-the-park home run that bounced off the wall in right centerfield. At Least Six North Texas is 9-1 when scoring at least six runs in a game. The only loss came on Feb. 11 against UMass Lowell when the River Hawks defeated the Mean Green 8-6 in extra innings. Just Get On Senior Kelli Schkade has reached safely in the last 17 games played, while freshman Lacy Gregory has reached safely in the last 12 games.

3 Looking Forward The Mean Green have a full slate ahead of them next week, with games being played five of the seven days. North Texas will open play on Tuesday against No. 13 Oklahoma at 6 p.m. in Denton. 4 Tracey Kee Head Coach Fourth Year East Carolina 90 The Kee File Hometown: Richmond, Virginia High School: Saint Gertrude (Va.) H.S. Alma Mater: East Carolina University, 1990 (B.S.) East Carolina University, 1995 (M.E.) Tracey Kee is in her fourth season at North Texas as one of the winningest active coaches in NCAA Division I, boasting a career record of Hired in August 2013, she became the fourth Mean Green softball head coach in the current era. In her three years, Kee has led the program to record heights and several program records and firsts. The 2016 team set a program record for steals in a season (81) and matched the highest batting average mark (.279). The 81 steals was good for an average of 1.47 a game, the 47th best mark in Division 1. In each of Kee s three seasons at North Texas, the team s defense has been ranked in the top-50 nationally, peaking at No. 5 in the 2015 season (.978). In 2014, Kee took the Mean Green to the most wins in the program s 12-year history with 31 victories. In 2015, North Texas upset No. 7 Baylor on the road in Waco, the highest ranked team that the Mean Green have defeated in program history and just their second-ever top-25 win. And then, in 2016, North Texas received votes in one of the national polls for the first time in school history after knocking off No. 21 Baylor two times in Waco. Under Kee, North Texas has had first-team All- Conference USA selections in three straight years and six all-conference selections overall in three years, including Kat Strunk, a two-time honoree and the 2014 C-USA Newcomer of the Year, the first specialty award in program history. In 2015, Taylor Schoblocher earned Amateur Softball Association/USA Softball National Player of the Week honors, the program s first national award. As a team, under Kee, the Mean Green has set several records, including the most conference wins (14), most runs scored (272), most RBI (242), highest batting average (.279), highest fielding percentage (.978) and fewest errors committed (30). In 2014, Ashley Kirk broke the single-season wins record with 22 victories and single-season strikeout record with 214. In 2015, Schoblocher set the singleseason marks for on-base percentage (.477) and slugging percentage (.833) and finished with the second-best single-season batting average (.389) and second-most home runs (17) and total bases (120). Off the field, North Texas softball graduates Lauren Poole and Madison Thompson were awarded the Jim Castaneda Postgraduate Scholarship in consecutive years, the first and second North Texas athletes to receive the honor in school s first two years of conference membership. Kee has also coached six NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes at North Texas (Sarah Barker, Mackenzie Grimes, Jami Schkade, Kelli Schkade, Shelbie Smith and Madison Thompson). Prior to North Texas, Kee compiled a record in 16 seasons as the East Carolina head coach, and guided the Pirates to four NCAA Tournament appearances including three in her last five years. Kee and her staff were also named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Mideast Region Coaching Staff of the Year honoree twice. She also captured nine league championships, with back-to-back C-USA Tournament titles in 2010 and From 2009 to 2011, no Conference USA program won more games than East Carolina s 125. ECU recorded 41 victories in 2011 to become only the fourth team in C-USA history to win 40 or more games in three-straight seasons. Kee s clubs have reached the 40-victory plateau 12 of her 16 seasons. Four times her teams have tallied 50 or more wins, including the 2000 group she directed to a schoolrecord 60 victories. Personally, she reached the 650- win threshold as a head coach in ECU won its first C-USA titles in 2010, claiming both the regular season and tournament titles before repeating as tournament champions in In just her first season as head coach in 1997, Kee s team posted a record, and she was named Big South Coach of the Year. Two seasons later, in 1999, East Carolina won 50 games and made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Under Kee s tutelage, many players have earned allconference and all-region honors. During her time in the Big South, she led 11 all-conference players, two Rookie of the Year selections, the league s tournament MVP, Denise Reagan, in 1999 and the two-time league player-of-the-year in Polonius (1998 and 1999). The accolades continued in Conference USA as Kee s players received 12 first-team selections and 15 second-team honors. Additionally, 14 student-athletes have been named to the all-rookie team with two named the league s freshman of the year. In 2009, Kee led Toni Paisley to Conference USA Female Athlete of the Year honors, becoming just the second softball selection in league history. Kee also helped Paisley to three-straight C-USA Pitcher of the Year awards from and to Louisville Slugger/ NFCA Third-Team All-America honors in Six players have also received all-region recognition under Kee since joining C-USA. Kee played her high school ball at Saint Gertrude in Richmond, Va., from before a stellar career for East Carolina from In 2009, she was inducted into the St. Gertrude Athletic Hall of Fame. In 2014, she was inducted into the Central Virginia ASA Hall of Fame. She graduated from ECU in May 1990 with a bachelor s degree in physical education and, in 1995, earned her master s degree from ECU in exercise and sport science with a concentration in physical education.
