It was the first time since 2007 that the Gamecocks won the series against the Bulldogs while the last time Georgia lost an opening league series was in 2010 against top-10 Alabama. In the series, Samantha LaZear hit a team-best.600 while Lacey Sumerlin and Sydni Emanuel had four hits each. Chelsea Wilkinson earned the lone win after holding the Gamecocks to four hits in game one. As a whole, the teams matched well in stats, but South Carolina s four home runs would tilt the series in its favor. All time, Georgia is in league action with two regular-season titles and one tournament championship. During the streak, Cortni hit.542 with 45 hits, including two doubles and two triples, while tabbing 29 runs. Monday also marked the end of Cortni s reach-base streak, as she had reached first safely in every prior game. Within that realm, Georgia is one of three Southeastern Conference teams to produce such success. Georgia isn t just a staple in Regional fields, but also into the next round, appearing in eight Super Regionals since The Bulldogs have made it to Super Regionals the last two seasons, just one of 12 teams to do so. The pinnacle of college softball is in Oklahoma City, and Georgia made back-to-back showings at the Women s College World Series in 2009 and 2010, finishing as one of the last four teams standing in both.
