No. 5 Auburn hosts No. 18/22 Arizona for the second-ever Super Regional at Jane B. Moore Field this Saturday and Sunday. The matchup will feature two Hall of Fame coaches and friends Auburn s Clint Myers and Arizona s Mike Candrea. Auburn will be making its 12th trip to the NCAA Tournament (13-20 all-time NCAA Regional record and all-time in the NCAA Tournament), including its third straight under head coach Clint Myers. This is the third time the Tigers will host a regional (2005, 2015, 2016). When: June 2-7/8, 2016 Stadium: Field: Coverage: Radio: LEADING OFF The Tigers moved up three spots to No. 5 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches poll after winning their second consecutive SEC Tournament title two weekend s ago. Auburn is also No. 5 in the latest official NCAA RPI and seeded No. 4 overall. Auburn ranks No. 2 in the NCAA in runs per game (8.13) and fourth in OBP (.445) Kasey Cooper (76) and Jade Rhodes (66) rank No. 3 and tied for No. 8 in RBI across the country. Cooper and Rhodes are the only teammates to rank in the top 10 in the country in RBI. Cooper is tied for ninth and Rhodes is tied for 22nd in home runs (19, 17). Cooper s 19 home runs ties Rhodes school record set last season. The Tigers pitching staff has assembled the 16thlowest ERA (2.14) in the NCAA with Rachael Walters (1.54) and Makayla Martin (1.70) both sub The Tiger hurlers have been especially good in the postseason, posting a 1.58 ERA in the NCAA, led by Walters (1-0 with a 0.84 ERA and 11 K in 8.1 IP), Martin (1-0 with a 1.35 ERA and a CG in 10.1 IP) and Kaylee Carlson (2-1 with a 2.17 ERA in 19.1 IP). The Tigers are batting.323 as a team (21st in NCAA) with a.218 batting average against mark The Tigers have posted 19 shutouts, which is tied for second-most in program history and also have 21 run-rule victories this AuburnSoftball Auburn Softball ASA Hall of Fame Stadium OGE Energy Field ESPN WEGL 91.1 FM Tournament Central: AuburnTigers.com/NCAA TIGERS IN THE WCWS ALL-TIME Auburn is making its second consecutive trip to the WCWS after making it to the semifinals last season in its first-ever appearance. The Tigers fell 6-1 to LSU in the opener, then won elimination games against Tennessee (4-2) and UCLA (11-10 in 10 innings) before falling 3-2 in nine innings to eventual national champion Florida in the semifinals. ALL SEC Kasey Cooper earned SEC Player and Scholar Athlete of the Year honors, in addition to being named to the SEC First Team and All-Defensive Team. Emily Carosone and Jade Rhodes joined Cooper on the All-Defensive team while Rhodes earned SEC Second Team accolades. Carosone earned SEC All-Tournament MVP for the second-straight year joining Kaylee Carlson, Carlee Wallace and Tiffany Howard on the SEC All- Tournament team. AUBURN VS WCWS FIELD Auburn is 6-1 vs. the other seven teams in the WCWS this season. The Tigers split a doubleheader vs. Florida State on April 20, swept a 3-game series vs. Georgia April 22-24, and beat Alabama in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals before beating LSU in the SEC Tournament championship on May 14. Myers making ninth Women s World Series Appearances Auburn head coach Clint Myers will be making his ninth trip to the Women s College World Series. Myers has a career record in the WCWS, including 2-2 last year in his first trip as Auburn s head coach. Myers was in seven trips as Arizona State s head coach and led the Sun Devils to the title in 2008 and APPROACHING PROGRAM WINS RECORD Auburn enters the WCWS with a record on the season, which puts the Tigers just two wins behind last year s squad (56-11) for the most wins in program history. This is just the third 50-win season in program history (50-18 in 2005) and the first time the Tigers have won 50 games in consecutive seasons.

6 2016 AUBURN SOFTBALL HEADLINES RARE FEAT IN SUPER REGIONAL Auburn was just the 17th team in 96 chances to win a Super Regional after losing Game 1. The Tigers lost Game before winning two games on Sunday 4-1 and 6-1 behind complete games from Makayla Martin (7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) in Game 2 and Kaylee Carlson (7 IP, 9 H, 1 R, 1ER, 0 BB, 0 K) in Game 3. In Game 2, Auburn scored all four of its runs in the fourth inning as Haley Fagan drove in her first two runs of the season on a double and Tiffany Howard added a couple of runs on a single. The Tigers got on the board early in the decisive Game 3 as Kasey Cooper delivered an RBI single and Carlee Wallace added a sacrifice fly to give Auburn a 2-0 lead in the first. The Tigers added two more runs in the third, including Wallace s second RBI of the game. Fagan s first home run of the season made it 5-0 Auburn in the fifth. Emily Carosone s RBI single provided the Tigers final run in the sixth for the 6-1 victory. Carosone is leading Auburn in the NCAA Tournament with a.471 batting average and has a team-high three doubles to go along with six RBI. Howard has a team-best seven RBI, including a grand slam in the regional championship game vs. Jacksonville State. Auburn ranks No. 12 as a team in the NCAA hitting 1.27 long balls per game and 13 different Tigers have gone deep this season. The Tigers have hit 10 grand slams this season and Cooper and Rhodes both pace the squad with a pair each to go along with their six career grand slams. Kasey Cooper (19) and Jade Rhodes (17) rank No. 9 and No. 22 in the NCAA and No. 2 and No. 3 in the SEC in home runs while Emily Carosone ranks 11th with 12 homers. Cooper and Rhodes are the sixth and seventh players to hit 15 home runs in a season in Clint Myers three seasons at Auburn compared to just two players to reach the mark in the 17 seasons prior to Myers taking over the helm for the Tigers. After not hitting a home run in her first 666 career at-bats, homered twice within nine at-bats during the postseason. Howard hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning of the SEC Tournament championship game to provide the final margin in Auburn s 7-1 victory over LSU. She followed that up with her second home run in the postseason with a grand slam in the Tigers 14-2 victory over Jacksonville State in the regional championship. FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR FINALIST Pitcher Makayla Martin has been named to the Schutt Sports / NFCA Division I Player of the Year Top 25 list. Martin is 11-3 on the year and has the No. 39 lowest ERA (1.76) and 36th-lowest hit rate per seven innings (5.10). She is one of nine SEC finalists for the award. WINNINGEST CLASS IN PROGRAM HISTORY This year s Auburn senior class has seen the Auburn Softball program reach new heights. 8 2016 AUBURN SOFTBALL CLINT MYERS CLINT MYERS HEAD COACH Clint Myers, who led Arizona State to two NCAA Championships, was named Auburn softball s second head coach in program history on June 14, In eight years at the helm of the Sun Devil program, Myers took seven trips to the Women s College World Series. Most recently, he made his eighth trip to the WCWS, taking Auburn for the first time in program history in In just his second season as the head Tiger, Myers guided the Auburn program to a record 56 wins and its first Women s College World Series appearance. It was a season of firsts for the Tigers as the team won its first NCAA Regional, first NCAA Super Regional and two games in its first WCWS. Myers did it all in just year two on The Plains, setting records offensively in batting average (.339), runs (526), hits (606), home runs (99) and RBI (474). He also helped set records in attendance at Jane B. Moore Field. Over 36,000 fans attended Auburn softball games in 2015, including a season-high 2,006 that came out for the series finale against Alabama. Emily Carosone, Kasey Cooper and Tiffany Howard were named NFCA All-Americans in Cooper and Carosone were named to the first team, while Howard made the third team for her first career All-American honor. In just two seasons under Myers, Auburn has had four players given All-American status; Carosone and Cooper became Auburn s first two-time All-Americans. In 2014, his first with the Tigers, Myers led the team to 42 wins and only totaled 19 losses, tying for the second-most wins in one year in Auburn softball history. The team returned to the SEC Tournament after a one-year hiatus and the NCAA Tournament reaching the Minneapolis Regional final against No. 14 Minnesota. Auburn took the Golden Gophers to a deciding final game with the winner advancing to an NCAA Super Regional, something Auburn had never done. Under Myers, Auburn s offense skyrocketed to some of its highest totals in program history. The total number of runs scored (440), home runs hit (83) and RBI (411) were the highest in any season in Auburn s history. The team batting average (.305) was also the highest in the last nine years. As important as offense was to his philosphy, Myers also put major emphasis on defense. The nation took notice as AU s fielding percentage tied for the best in the country in The Tigers generated a.979 fielding percentage, tying with Kansas and standing only one one-thousandth of a percent higher than Florida and Oklahoma in 2014 (.978). Auburn turned 38 double-plays that year, most in the SEC and second-most in the country. Myers captained the Sun Devils to national titles in 2008 and 2011, and made the trip to Oklahoma City seven times in eight years. In his only miss of the WCWS, he took ASU to an NCAA Super Regional. Under his guidance, ASU has averaged 53 wins per season, including 60-plus wins twice. He became the third coach in Sun Devil softball history to amass 400 victories. When we began our search for a new softball coach, the goal was to find a proven winner who could help us compete for championships, Director of Athletics Jay Jacobs said. We could not have found a coach who better fits that criteria than Clint Myers, who has consistently reached the pinnacle of success in college softball. Anytime you can hire a coach who has won two National Championships and been to the Women s College World Series seven out of eight years, it s obviously a huge win for your program. No less important is the fact that Coach Myers student-athletes have also been consistent winners in the classroom. I am delighted to welcome Coach Myers and his wife, Katie, to the Auburn family. Prior to his stint at ASU, Myers spent 19 highly successful years coaching Central Arizona College s baseball and softball teams. From , he was the head baseball coach where he took the Vaqueros to the Junior College World Series twice, winning the NJCAA National Championship in Myers posted a record (.678 winning pct.) at Central Arizona College and earned the NJCAA Coach of the Year award in From , Myers built a record of (.917 winning pct.) as the skipper of the softball team.
