3 First Year Assessment Report: Report on Prospecting, Rock and Soil Sampling Carried Out From September/2012 to December/2012 on the Clarkes Pond Property Licence M Northwest Gander River,Central Newfoundland NTS 02D/14 NAD 27, Zone 21 Total Claims - 30 Total Expenditures - $6, Prepared by: Larry Quinlan January/ 2013
4 CLARKES POND PROPERTY: 1:1 - Introduction: The Clarkes Pond property consists of thirty mineral claims within License M. The ground was staked for its gold potential. 1:2 -Location and Access: The Clarkes Pond property is located in central Newfoundland near Northwest Gander River, approximately 25 kilometers west of the town of Glenwood. It is situated on NTS map sheet 02D/14, Access to the property is via Salmon Pond Forest Access Road located on the TCH located 2 kilometers west of the community of Glenwood. The Salmon Pond Forest Access Road provide excellent access to all sectors of the property (Fig. 1). 1:3 Local and Property Geology: The Clarkes Pond property and area are underlain by the Indian Islands Group and Botwood Group. The Indian Islands Group, underlying the northern sectors of the property consists of several formations of variably calcareous sedimentary rocks and rare massive limestone of Late Silurian to possible Early Devonian age. The base of this group is composed of a coarse, fossiliferous limestone breccia, with intercalated limestone and buff-weathering shale that rest disconformably on older black shale and argillite of Early Silurian age or older. Variably calcareous, gray to dark gray siltstone and shale, and minor gray and green siltstone mark the middle of the stratigraphy. Locally, these pass upward into calcareous maroon siltstone, indicating very shallow marine to terrestrial deposition marking the top of the Indian Islands Group. The Botwood Group, underly the southern sectors of the property, is an extensive, thick, subaerial volcanic and sedimentary sequence composed of a basal volcanic formation, the Laurenceton Formation, and an upper sedimentary formation called the Wigwam Formation. Both are thought to have formed in an epicontinental tectonic setting, and reflect deposition under subaerial to shallow marine conditions. The Laurenceton Formation is bimodal in nature, consisting of a lower rhyolite unit succeeded by a basaltic unit that is commonly hematitic. The Wigwam Formation is interpreted as a terrestrial sequence dominated by fluviatile sedimentation. It is subdivided into an upper and lower unit. The lower unit is dominated by thickbedded, variably colored (red, green, beige) sandstone. Thin-bedded siltstone and sandstone, and thick-bedded conglomerate are also present. Sedimentary features include parallel and cross laminations, graded bedding, mud cracks, rippled surfaces, and soft-sediment deformation. White mica is a prominent detrital component of the unit. The lower unit of the Wigwam Formation is interpreted to be in stratigraphic contact with the Laurenceton Formation, and in thrust contact with the upper unit of the Wigwam Formation (Dickson, 1993). 1:4 Physiography: The license area is relatively flat with minor relief ranging from 30 to 100 meters in elevation in the central and eastern sectors of the property. In the extreme western sectors elevation approaches 250 meters. Much of the area was commercially logged for pulp wood several years ago and has since naturally regenerated with a mix of hard and soft woods. Regionally drainage is to the northeast. Within the property much of the drainage is to the south. 1
5 1:5 Mineralization: The Clarkes Brook showing is the only known gold mineralization within the Clarkes Pond property. Discovered by Altius Minerals personnel in 2004, the showing is comprised of mineralised bedrock and large angular blocks of a mafic intrusive.both the bedrock and blocks are silicified with minor quartz veining. Pyrite and arsenopyrite are found in both the intrusive and quartz veining. The quartz veins are less than 30 cm wide. Sampling by Altius Minerals returned gold values from 2.98 g/t to 24.5 g/t, (Churchill, 2004). Sampling by the author of this report returned up to 6.1 g/t Au in bedrock and up to 4.7 g/t/au from the boulders. 2
6 1:6 Previous Exploration: The only known mineral exploration carried out within the boundaries of the current Clarkes Pond property was prospecting carried out by Altius Minerals personnel in The prospecting led to the discovery of the Clarkes Brook showing. The showing is comprised of mineralized bedrock and large angular blocks of a mafic intrusive. Both the bedrock and blocks are silified with minor quartz veining. Pyrite and arsenopyrite are found in both the intrusive and quartz veining. The quartz veins are less than 30 cm wide. Sampling by Altius Minerals returned gold values from 2.98 g/t to 24.5 g/t, (Churchill, 2004). 1:7 Current Exploration: Through the assistance of a grant from the Prospector Assistance Program a total of five days were spend on the property prospecting and soil sampling. A total of 13 rock samples and 22 of 60 soil samples collected, were sent for analysis at Eastern Analytical, located in Springdale, NL. The rock sampling consisted for the most part of the Clarkes Brook showing and float samples discovered upstream from the showing. Samples from the outcrop at the showing returned values of 6172, 4658, 4639 and 1997 ppb gold. Sampling the boulders returned values of 3168 and 2724 ppb gold. Float boulders up 40 cm square discovered up to 100 meters upstream from the showing returned 4737, 1254 and 102 ppb gold. The float boulders are mafic intrusive and identical to the mafic intrusive found at the Clarkes Brook showing, suggesting that there is more than one mineralized body in the area. Further rock sampling was hindered by near non-existent outcrop. Soil sampling was hindered by lack of soil development. Refer to Figure 2 for sample locations, Appendix 2 for sample description and Appendix 3 for analytical results. The eastern sectors, near the Northwest Gander River, appear to be a flood plain with very poor to no soil development. Other sectors of the property appear to be overlain with a thick (10 +meters) layer of till. A gravel quarry near the boundary of the property has exposed a till layer in excess of 15 meters deep. A total of 60 soil samples were collected but because of poor quality of the samples due to poor soil development and heavy till cover, it was decided to see what the results of 22 samples would be before sending the remaining samples for analysis. And has expected the results from the samples analyzed came back negative 1:8 Conclusions and Recommendations: Sampling the Clarkes Brook showing returned encouraging results with gold grades up to 6.7 g/t/au. Sampling float boulders up stream returned values up to 4.7 g/t/au. The float boulders, identical to the outcrop and boulders at the showing suggest that there is more than one mineralized body in the area increasing the gold potential of the area. Lack of outcrop severely hindered prospecting elsewhere. Lack of soil development and heavy till cover severely hinder soil sampling. Results from the soil sampling show that it would not be an exploration tool that could work within the property. Several factors have to be taken into consideration when deciding to carry out further exploration. The showing is located in the stream bed of a licensed salmon stream that drains into Northwest Gander, a major salmon licensed river. Because of the licensed stream and river, permitting such as trenching, would be an issue. Along with the afore mentioned and with the lack of outcrop, nil to poor soil development and heavy till cover it is felt that further work would be futile and no further work is recommended. 3
