2 The INGV Remote Sensing Group has a large and consolidated experience in processing Satellite and airborne multispectral and hyperspectral data to observe natural phenomena CONTRIBUTION TO ESA PROJECTS ESA-GLOBTEMP (as USER) ESA-GEP ( Responsible for development a processing chain for surface temperature), participation to the Volcano Trial Case (VO-2 trial case of the ESA DRR GSP) ESA-VEGAN (impact of volcanic eruption on vegetation), active role of End Users in Argentina and Italy Past activities in ESA and ASI projects for geophysical activities and contributes to the study of ESA IR element, Sentinel Convoy SPECIFIC EXPERTISE: Development of procedures to analyse surface Temperatures, pecific gas species emitted from natural sources, fire thermal characteristics Study of long time series of EO data and ground measurements Data ASTER, LANDSAT, HYPERION, AVHRR, MODIS from 2016 SENTINEL3 and SENTINEL2 Field measurements for CAL/VAL of EO data and products Availability of permanent and systematic measurements as Mt. Etna and Campi Flegrei in Italy. Study of new IR missions to support Climate Change studies. Participation to national and international Science Teams for Optical Missions.

Continuity with GLOBTEMP project

6 INGV PROPOSED ACTIVITIES AND CONTRIBUTES FOR ESA CCI and ASI Initiatives Participation to international community involved i study Land Surface Temperature (LST), land cover ground gas emissions. Contribute to development of procedures and provide products based on EO data. Interest in contributing to next ESA Activities regarding LST Offer the INGV permanent and systematic ground measurements on volcanic areas to Calibrate and validate LST products Active International collaborations: USGS, NASA-JPL, Volcano Observatories, National Parks Contribute to the understanding of the climate change effects on the Italian territory With specific application to study the complex interaction between natural and human induced phenomena on environment: test areas Parco dell Etna which is UNESCO site, extend to Eolian Archipelago (also UNESCO) Support ASI and ESA on the study of new space missions New instruments to complement the existing instruments to better understanding the Changing Earth (EXPLORERS, NEW SENTINELS, HYPERSPECTRAL MISSIONS). In particular MIR-TIR imaging spectrometer with a ground resolution in the range of SENTINEL2/LANDSAT8 (30-60 m), which will add very important information to understand the Climate Change effects at local scale and integrate information at different scales
