Earth Observatory of Singapore Nina Lin 22 Jan 2018
EOS Our Mission Our Mission Director Prof. Kerry Sieh The Earth Observatory of Singapore conducts fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, towards safer and more sustainable societies.
EOS Geodesy Group 3 Prof. Emma Hill Nina Lin Eric Lindsey Edwin Tan Principal Investigator Research Fellow Research Fellow Senior Assistant Manager
New collaboration with JPL and Caltech - ARIA 4 The Advanced Rapid Imaging and Analysis (ARIA) system was developed by JPL and Caltech to provide automatic processing of geodetic data for disaster response and monitoring We are collaborating to clone their systems over to EOS and work together to further strengthen the system This will give us the capability to map ground deformation, damage, and floods from natural disasters across the Southeast Asia region using Synthetic Aperture Radar data The Japanese Space Agency s ALOS-2 SAR satellite
Space based remote sensing in volcanology September 30 th to October 7 th 2017
ARIA: Main Features 6
ARIA: Under the Hood 7 ISCE InSAR Scientific Computing Environment The major InSAR processing application Process data from most SAR sensors & modes V incorporates spectrum-split ionospheric correction for ALOS stripmaps The InSAR time-series application Process InSAR data from different processing softwares (ROIPAC, ISCE, GMTSAR, GAMMA) PyAPS The atmospheric correction application Support different modes of correction (spectrometer, weather model, empirical model) Embedded in GIAnT
Product Example: Interferogram Interferometric SAR uses temporal changes in the phase of the returned SAR signal to map ground displacements from earthquakes, volcanoes, subsidence SAR interferogram for the Mw earthquake of Nepal. Generated by Eric Lindsey (EOS). 8
Product Example: Displacement Time-Series InSAR line-of-sight (LOS) displacement time-series is the level-2 product based on the inversion results of multiple level-1 InSAR products 9 InSAR LOS Displacement Timeseries for the Agung Crisis. Generated by Nina Lin & Eric Lindsey (EOS).
Product Example: Displacement Time-Series 10 0 Airport -10 cm/yr West Jakarta: (ALOS1) timeline Generated by Nina Lin & Eric Lindsey (EOS).
Product Example: Displacement Time-Series 10 0 Airport -10 cm/yr West Jakarta: (TSX) timeline Generated by Nina Lin & Eric Lindsey (EOS).
Product Example: Displacement Time-Series 10 0 Airport -10 cm/yr West Jakarta: (ALOS2) timeline Generated by Nina Lin & Eric Lindsey (EOS).
Product Example: Displacement Time-Series 10 0 Airport -10 cm/yr West Jakarta: (Sentinel) timeline Generated by Nina Lin & Eric Lindsey (EOS).
Damage Product Example: Proxy Maps Damage (DPMs) Proxy Map 1 4 DPMs use information from changes in the coherence of the SAR signal before and after a disaster to map areas of damage DPM for the M w Mexico earthquake Generated by Sang-Ho Yun and the JPL ARIA team
Product Example: Damage Proxy Map (due to Wild Fire) 1 5 DPM for the December 2017 Southern California Wild Fire Generated by Sang-Ho Yun and the JPL ARIA team
Product Example: Flood Proxy Map 1 6 FPMs use changes in the amplitude of the returned SAR signal to map flood extents FPM for 2017 flooding in Houston, Texas, USA, from Hurricane Harvey Generated by Sang-Ho Yun and the JPL ARIA team
Our Vision 1 7 Create automatically generated interferograms, time-series, DPMs and FPMs to help disaster monitoring and response throughout the region Work closely and share out information with responding agencies and other stakeholders Innovate the techniques to further improve the system 2017 floods in India (Reuters)
