- 6 - TOPOGRAPHY The relief on this property varies from 1000 to 1500 meters. Ice and snow-fields cover a portion of the claim block, particularly the claims located above 1200 meters elevation. The Salmon Glacier, which covers the northern and eastern sides of the Outland Silver Bar claims, has receded since the property was staked 58 years ago. The surface of the glacier has dropped about 120 meters since Access to the old exploration tunnels was originally from the surface of the glacier. These tunnels are now 100 to 150 meters above the surface of the glacier. HISTORY OF THE OUTLAND SILVER BAR CLAIMS This group of claims has been described in the Minister of Mines reports since It is also described in Bulletin 58, "GEOLOGY AND MINERAL DEPOSITS OF THE STEWART AREA." The maps from Bulletin 58 and-from assessment report 375 by D. A. Davidson were used for this report. The property has been prospected in the past years by the driving of tunnels and crosscuts. To date fifteen tunnels, and at least two prospect pits have been completed. Some of the tunnels were sloughed-in, or covered by snow at the time of the examination. Two of the pits, 1lA and 16, were still

-7- open. Many old workings, presumably prospect pits, were described in the literature; however, they have been covered by talus or sloughed-in. The drifts and crosscuts are usually short, less than 50 meters; however, the No. 6 tunnel, the longest, has a length of 300 meters. EXAMINATION OF THE PROPERTY The examination of the Outland Silver Bar claims was completed in August Four days, August 8th to August llth, were spent in the examination and the sampling of the claims. The writer was assisted by John Hembling for four days, and by Dr. H. Mead for one day. The channel samples were cut by the use of a hammer and moil. All samples were large and weighed a minimum of 5 kilograms. The samples were sent to Chemex Laboratories in North Vancouver for assay. The results are reported in ounces per short tonforthe precious metals, and in percentage per short ton for the base metals. No conversion to the metric system has been made for the assay results. GENERAL GEOLOGY (Figure 3) The main rock units on the Outland Silver Bar claims are of the Hazelton sediments, the Bowser sediments and the Texas Creek intrusive. The Hazelton sediments are a series of green massive volcanic conglomerates, sandstones with minor breccia and intercalated siltstones. The Bowser sediments are a series of siltstones, greywackies, argillites, with minor beds of chert pebble conglomerate and limestone. The Texas Creek intrusive is a granodiorite in composition. The above

FIGURE 4 DYKE SWARM AND GOSSAN ZONES ON THE OUTLAND SILVER BAR CLAIMS

- 9 - three units are cut by the Portland Canal dyke swarm. As can be seen in Figures 3, 4 and 5, this dyke swarm outcrops not only on the Outland Silver Bar claims, but also on the claims of the Big Missouri group. The above generalized descriptions of the rock units have been taken from Bulletin 58 of the B.C. Department of Mines. GEOLOGY OF THE CLAIM GROUP The geology of the claim group (Figure 5) has been taken from Bulletin 58. As indicated on Figure 3, the main rock unit on the Outland Silver Bar claims is a sedimentary- volcanic sequence, generally described as a "siltstone, silty quartzite - including small dykes and sills". Unfortunately, the chert beds were not mapped as a separate unit. They are included as a part of the sedimentary sequence. The sedimentary rocks are generally a series of banded argillites, or argillaceous quartzites, which grade into slaty argillites. The sedimentary rocks are intruded by Portland Canal dyke swarm (see Figure 5). Dr. Groves, in Bulletin 58, reports that there are at least five generations of dykes forming a part of the dyke swarm. generally classified as quartz diorites. The oldest dykes are These dykes have been altered and crushed. They are pre-ore and contain quartz veins and quartz-filled fracture zones. The post-ore dykes generally have an andesitic composition. They cut the diorite dykes and sediments. The strike of the sedimentary units varies from

FIGURE 6 MASSIVE SULPHIDE LENSE AT THE PORTAL OF THE NO. 8 TUNNEL c-l 0

southwest to west. The beds dip from 50 to 80 degrees to the north. MINERALIZATION The minerals noted in the gossan zones at the Outland Silver Bar property were pyrite, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite and tetrahedrite. The mineralization occurs in veins and in zones of massive sulphides (see Figure 6), within some of the units of the sedimentary series. VEIN DEPOS ITS The vein deposits generally are found to cut the sediments and oldest dykes. The strongest vein is Johnnies Vein, which is exposed in Tunnel 1 at an elevation of 1230 meters and in Tunnel 6, at an elevation of 1183 meters (see Figure 7). Johnnies Vein has a north-northwest strike, and dips to the east at 70 degrees. The vein in the No. 6 tunnel has a width of about 60 centimeters on the north face, and about 2 meters on the south face. No assays were obtained from the No. 1 tunnel as the portal was still covered by snow at the time of the examination. Two drill holes were completed on Johnnies Vein from the No. 6 tunnel. The results of the drilling are unknown. The No. 1 vein, located on the western portion of the area, was still covered by snow. The enclosed sketch of the No. 1 Vein (Figure 8) was taken from assessment report 375.

REPLACEMENT DEPOSITS In keeping with the various reports completed on this property, the writer has kept the term "replacement" for the lenses of sulphide mineralization that have the same strike and dip as the bedding. These deposits appear to be of volcanogenic origin, and would be classified as "stratabound" deposits. The volcanogenic origin is suggested by the fact that the sulphide lenses are located in and near the chert beds in the Bowser sediments. beds were not mapped as a separate unit. As noted the chert The ore on the Big Missouri property, which adjoins the Outland Silver Bar to the east, also occurs in the same sedimentary unit of the Iiazelton assemblage (Figure 3). The minerals of the ore zones are pyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite, tetrahedrite, argentite and possibly some of the other sulphosalts of silver. These mineral zones are reported to be located within the dyke rocks and not in the siltstones. A close examination of the "replacement" deposits shows that they bear a close spatial relation to the chert beds. Two areas of mineralization, Zone 1 and Zone 2, located within a major gossan zone, were sampled. (See Figures 9, 10 & 11.) The gossan zones are less intense below the line marking the height of the glacier. Since the beds have a nearly vertical dip, it is expected that the mineralization will continue down to the present level of the Salmon Glacier.

~ ASSAY RESULTS (Figure 10) In order to obtain a representative sample of the mineralization, large channel samples were taken for assay. The results of the sampling of the replacement deposits are given in Figure 10. Total of 27 channel and grab samples were taken from "replacement" deposits, and as noted, two channel samples were taken from Johnnies Vein. Three zones of mineralization, Zbne 1, Zone 2 and Pit 16 Zone were sampled. Zone 1 contains Tunnels 8, 9, 10, and 15. Zone 2 contains Tunnels 11, 12, 13 and Pit 11A. The Pit 16 Zone contains only the Pit 16 opencut. The samples of Zone 1 taken at the 1067 meter contour, at the portal of Tunnel 8, gave the following results: SAMPLE WIDTH cu Pb Zn Ag AU Chip Sample 1 2.0m Chip Sample 2 2.0m Chip Sample 3 1.5m Chip Sample 4 2.6m WEIGHTED AVERAGE lm Two grab samples from the massive sulphide material piled up at the portal of Tunnel 8 gave the following results: SAMPLE Pb - Zn Ag Au Grab Grab

A portion of the 8.lm sample can be seen in Figure 6. The portion sampled at.the portal of Tunnel 8, is the southern side of the same zone sampled at the 1052 meter contour at the No. 10 Tunnel. Samples A, E, F, G, H and I, are the northern portion of the same zones. The results of the Tunnel 10 samples are as follows: SAMPLE WIDTH Pb Zn AL Au Chip Sample - a 2.0m Chip Sample - b co.003 Chip Sample - c 2.0m Grab from Muck Pile - d 2.0m Samples from trench blasted to north of portal of Tunnel 10: SAMPLE WIDTH cu Pb Zn A Au Bulk Sample - e 2.0m Bulk Sample - f 2.0m Bulk Sample - g 2.om Bulk Sample - h 2.Om Bulk Sample - i 2.0m C WEIGHTED AVERAGE 10.0m The weighted average of the following ten samples, 1, 2, 3, 4, a, e, f, g, h and i, gave the following results meters of 0.08 Cu, 0.62 Pb, 0.36 Zn, 2.53 Ag, 0.01 Au The silver content of the mineralization on the margins of Zone 1 is unknown. The length of the Zone 1 mineral- ization is not known; however, judging from the extent of the

old workings and the gossan zone, figure 11, it could have a length in excess of 200 meters. Zone 2 has been sampled in Tunnels 11 to 13, and Pit 11A. The economic section of this zone occurs in Tunnel 11. The weighted average of the four samples of Tunnel 11 gave the following results: 5.6m 0.06 Cu, 0.13 Pb, 0.14 Zn, 2.82 Ag, Au The walls of Zone2 contain low values in copper, lead, zinc, silver and gold. Zone 2 appears to have a length of about 100 meters. Two samples were taken at Pit 16. The Pit 16 zone appears to have the same strike and dip as Zones 1 and 2 described above. Two samples were taken in Pit 16 gave the following results: SAMPLE Chip Sample 2.0m <0.003 Grab Sample from stacked ore In the three zones sampled to date, the horizontal and vertical extent, and the width of the mineralization are unknown. Three samples, 79271, and 79333, were assayed spectrographically for 30 elements. Sample and are from the surface samples of Zone 1 and the Pit 16 zone (Figure 8). Sample is from the southern face of Johnnies Vein (Figure 7). The results of these assays are given in Figure 12. The arsenic content of the ore from Johnnies Vein is noticeably lower than that from the mineralized zones. There is a noticeable cadmium content in all of the samples.

PROPOSED PROGRAM The samples taken to date indicate that there is sufficient silver content in the zones on the Outland Silver Bar to warrant additional work on the property. The areas of Figure 8 should be carefully mapped and all of the gossan zones sampled by trenching. Fresh surfaces should be blasted across all of the gossan zones. Bulk samples of about 25 kilograms each should be taken over 1.5 to 2.0 meter widths. The sampling will require the use of two portable roxk hills, and a gasoline-driven crusher. The work would be completed by a crew of seven men in three months. The estimate for the geologic mapping and sampling program is $ 125,000, as follows: Wages Supervision and Engineering Rentals - Vehicle - copco - Radio Powder Caps Fuse Steel Camp Equipment & Lumber Gas for Crusher, Fuel for Camp Sample Bags & Assaying Miscellaneous Camp Supplies Food for seven men for 2.7 $17/day Air Freight Transportation, Air Fares Helicopter Meals TOTAL $ 50,500 7,500 3,000 3,600 2,000 5,000 8,000 1,000 9,000 1,400 9,000 3,000 2,000 18,000 2, ,000

If the above work confirms the presence of economic zones of silver mineralization, then a second stage of exploration, a diamond drilling program, will be justified. The estimated expenditure for a second phase drilling program is estimated at $ 175,000. CONCLUSION The initial mapping and sampling of the Outland Silver Bar property has shown that the silver occurs in vein and "replacement" deposits. The samples of Johnnies Vein, the largest vein prospected to date, contained up to 4.8 ounces of silver over a 2 meter width. The structures of potential on the Outland Silver Bar property are the "replacement" zones. The two zones sampled gave the following results: ZONE Meters cu - Pb Zn A Au m are unknown. The true size and mineral content of each zone A two-phase exploration program is proposed. The first phase would be a geological mapping and sampling program, and the second phase would be diamond drilling. Phase 1 would be carried out by a mapping and sampling crew in three months. cost $ 125,000. It is estimated that the first phase will If the first phase is successful, a second phase of 5,000 feet of diamond drilling should be completed
