Jawab EMPAT(4) soalan sahaja. QUESTION 1 SOALAN 1 (a) A habitat is an ecological or environmental area that is inhabited by a particular species of animal, plant, or other types of organisms. It is a place where it can find food, shelter, protection and mates for reproduction. Habitat adalah satu kawasan ekologi atau alam sekitar yang didiami oleh spesies haiwan, tumbuhan, atau lain-lain jenis organisma tertentu. Ia adalah tempat di mana ia dapat mencari makanan, tempat tinggal, perlindungan dan pasangan untuk pembiakan. (i) Differentiate between a habitat and an environment. Bezakan antara habitat dan alam sekitar. (ii) Describe TWO(2) activities that can destroy the habitat of the organism. Jelaskan DUA(2) aktiviti yang boleh memusnahkan habitat organisma. 2 SULIT

Pencemaran alam sekitar adalah pencemaran komponen fizikal dan sistem biologi bumi sehingga ke tahap bahawa proses alam sekitar yang normal terjejas. (i) State TWO(2) impacts of pollution upon human health. Nyatakan DUA(2) impak pencemaran terhadap kesihatan manusia. 4 QUESTION 2 SOALAN 2 (a) List FIVE(5) processes in hydrological cycle. Senaraikan LIMA(5) proses dalam kitaran hidrologi. [5 marks] [5 markah] (b) Describe TWO(2) effects of hydrological cycle upon biogeochemical cycle. Jelaskan DUA(2) kesan kitaran hidrologi ke atas kitaran biogeokimia. (c) Suspended solids refer to small solid particles which remain in suspension in water as a colloid or due to the motion of the water. It is used as one indicator of water quality. Pepejal terampai merujuk kepada zarah pepejal kecil yang kekal terapung di dalam air sebagai koloid atau disebabkan oleh pergerakan air. Ia digunakan sebagai salah satu penunjuk dalam kualiti air. (i) Solid suspended in water may consist of inorganic or organic particles. Distinguish between inorganic and organic particles. Pepejal terampai di dalam air boleh terdiri daripada zarah tak organik atau organik. Bezakan antara zarah organik dan tidak organik. (ii) Discuss TWO(2) impacts of suspended solid in water. 5 C3 (d) Alkalinity is defined as the quantity of ions in water that will react to neutralize hydrogen ions. Alkalinity is thus a measure of the ability of water to neutralize acids. Kealkalian ditakrifkan sebagai kuantiti ion dalam air yang akan bertindak balas untuk meneutralkan ion hidrogen. Dengan itu kealkalian adalah ukuran keupayaan air untuk meneutralkan asid. (i) (ii) Explain TWO(2) effects when alkalinity increases in water. Jelaskan DUA(2) kesan apabila kealkalian meningkat di dalam air. Determine TWO(2) sources that contribute to alkalinity of water. 6 QUESTION 3 SOALAN 3 (a) Dissolved gases are resulted from the solvent action of water on gases. Gases are inorganic substances which dissolved in water resulting from contacting with atmosphere. Gas terlarut adalah disebabkan oleh tindakan pelarut air ke atas gas. Gas merupakan sebatian bukan organik yang larut di dalam air hasil daripada tindakbalas dengan atmosfera. i. List TWO(2) examples of dissolved gases in water. Senaraikan DUA(2) contoh gas terlarut dalam air. [2 marks] [2 markah] Describe the way dissolved gases being removed naturally from water. Jelaskan cara gas terlarut dikeluarkan dari air secara semulajadi. (b) In a scientific sense, a chemical process is a method or mean of changing one or more chemicals or chemical compounds. Such a chemical process can occur by itself or be caused by an outside force, and involves a chemical reaction. Dari sudut saintifik, proses kimia adalah satu kaedah atau cara menukar satu atau lebih bahan kimia atau sebatian kimia. Proses kimia boleh berlaku dengan sendirinya atau disebabkan oleh satu faktor luar, dan melibatkan sesuatu tindak balas kimia. i. Describe THREE(3) equations that involve in chemical conversion that stabilize the ph of water. Jelaskan TIGA(3) persamaan yang terlibat dalam pertukaran kimia yang menstabilkan ph air. 7 SULIT

[2 marks] [2 markah] (b) Air quality measurement in Malaysia use the terms Air Pollutant Index (API) to report the quality of air instead of using the actual concentration of air pollutants. Describe THREE (3) factors that contribute to bad air quality. Pengiraan kualiti udara di Malaysia menggunakan terma indek pencemaran udara untuk melaporkan kualiti udara dan bukannya menggunakan kepekatan sebenar pencemaran udara. Jelaskan TIGA (3) faktor yang menyumbang kepada kualiti udara yang teruk. (c) Molds are the most common forms of fungi found on earth. Most molds reproduce through the formation of spores, tiny microscopic cells that float through the indoor and outdoor air on a continual basis. Fungus adalah kulat yang paling biasa ditemui di bumi. Kebanyakan fungus membiak melalui pembentukan spora, sel-sel mikroskopik kecil yang terapung di udara dalaman dan luaran secara berterusan. i. Give THREE(3) factors that contribute to the growth of fungi molds in building facilities. Berikan TIGA(3) faktor yang menyumbang kepada pertumbuhan fungus kulat dalam fasiliti bangunan. 10 QUESTION 5 SOALAN 5 (a) Dispersion is the process by which contaminants move through the air and a plume spreads over a large area, thus reducing the concentration of the pollutants it contains. Penyebaran adalah proses di mana bahan pencemar bergerak melalui udara dan kepulan yang merebak di kawasan yang besar, oleh itu penyebaran mengurangkan kepekatan bahan pencemar yang terkandung di dalamnya. i. List THREE(3) primary factors that affect the dispersion of pollutants. Senaraikan TIGA(3) faktor primer yang menyebabkan penyebaran bahan pencemar. 11 QUESTION 6 SOALAN 6 (a) Management of solid waste reduces or eliminates adverse impacts on the environment and human health and supports economic development and improved quality of life. Identify FOUR(4) desirable solid waste management strategies. Pengurusan sisa pepejal mengurangkan atau menghapuskan kesan buruk terhadap alam sekitar dan kesihatan manusia serta menyokong pembangunan ekonomi dan kualiti hidup. Kenalpasti EMPAT(4) strategi yang wajar bagi pengurusan sisa pepejal. (b) Waste characterization is a method used to determine the types of materials being discarded in a waste stream and in what proportion. Describe briefly the properties of waste characterization. Pencirian sisa adalah satu kaedah yang digunakan untuk menentukan jenis bahan yang dibuang dalam aliran sisa serta dalam apa jua perkadaran. Terangkan secara ringkas sifat-sifat pencirian sisa. (c) Transfer stations are used to accomplish transfer of solid wastes from collectors and other small vehicles to larger transport equipment. In your opinion, discuss the factors affecting attractiveness of transfer operations.
