The first part of this paper fo cuses on the national and international study aboutanalysis conceptions developmenttendencies and characteristics ofmetropolitan region. The developmentofre search and practice aboutmetropolitan region in the world was rec ognized. Based on the analysis wemade an analysisofthe developm ent ofthe research and the practice aboutm et ropolitan region in China. The authorsum m ed u p the understanding about Metropolitan Region from Chinese schol ars and packed up the practices in China in orde r to further understand the connotation ofthisconception. Then we builtup the developmenttheory system of Me tropolitan Region including the conception and standards of Met ropolitan Region which is seasoned with the si tuation of our country and the tendencies ofdevelopment the nature of metropolitan region which is a de velopm entpattern as wellas a phenom enon the spatialstructure which circles from insi de to outside the effect the phase ofmetropolitan region developmentand discussed how tomanage thisr egion. Lastly we summed up the contentofthe m etropolitan re gion developm entplanning. The im portance ofinco rporation and habitation conception for the d evelopm entof Metropolitan Region was em phasized. Asa kind ofurban de velopmentm odel Metropolitan Region is vitalfor the construction ofurban area which has conditions to deve lop this m odeland the developm entofregional econom y.
