School of Electronic Information Engineering, Southwest Petroleum Uni2 Southwest O il and Gas field Company of China Petroleum, Chengdu , China) Abstract: Comp lexity science arose in the 1980 s and continues to be one of the leading edges in the development of modern science. Comp lex system s are a m ain subject of research in comp lexity science; summarizing the techniques of comp lex system research is very challenging and has great significance. This paper discusses two different tech2 niques to research comp lex system s, one technique is called Emergence, the other one is called Control ; both are bottom 2up methods. These two techniques were then shown to be divisible into six categories. This paper also demonstrated the app lications of these techniques and concluded that the Emergence technique is generally suit2 able when studying different types of comp lex system s.
