Huizhou Refinery of China National Offshore O il Corporation, Huizhou , Guangdong, China) Abstract: This paper aim s at the strategies to sim ulate the distillation p rocess in a delayed coking unit (DCU ) by using the simulation software of SimSci/PRO. Since the components of the reaction vapor in the DCU fractiona2 tion column are unknown and there are imbalanced trays at the bottom of the column, the composition of the high2 temperature oil and gas feedstock in the fractionation column is inversely conjectured according to the composition of the p roducts, and the whole colum n is divided into two sections, namely the bottom heat2exchange section and the rectifying section. Then, the Grayson2Streed p roperty choice m ethod is adop ted to simulate the fractionation p rocess. The simulated results, which are consistent w ith the on2site operational data, indicate that there is an ob2 vious fluctuant flow rate of the gas and the liquid along the trays. Moreover, a hydraulics calculation is carried out for the main fractionation colum n, and a tray2load performance diagram is drawn. The results show that weep ing ex2 ists at most trays, which can be solved by p lugging up some holes in the weep ing trays. Finally, in accordance with the p roduction requirements in the refinery, a sim ulation and a hydraulics calculation are perform ed for the fraction2 ation column whose p rocessing capacity is increased by 22%. fractionation column can m eet the requirem ents of p roduction w ith enlarged capacity.
