1 April 25, 2008 Contact: Joshua J. Darling Scouting Chattanooga (34-15, 12-1) Chattanooga pulled within one victory of matching last season s win total and two wins of clinching the 2008 Southern Conference championship with a sweep of the Furman Paladins this past weekend. Brooke Loudermilk was dominant in the opener as she set down the first 20 batters before allowing a double to the right field gap on a 1-2 count to lose her bid at a perfect game. She finished with a complete game, one-hit shutout and 2-0 victory. Game 2 saw the Lady Mocs rally from a 1-0 fifth inning deficit with an RBI triple by Katie Blevins, who then scored the eventual game-winning run on a wild pitch. Kaitlin Holloway threw three scoreless, one-hit innings to lead UTC to a 2-1 victory and pick up her sixth win in her last seven appearances. In the series finale, Chattanooga scored a total of five runs in the second and third innings while allowing only two for the entire game to nab a 5-2 victory and sweep the Paladins for their 18th victory in 19 games. Blevins continues to lead Chattanooga in a number of power categories with 13 homeruns, 37 RBIs and a.761 slugging percentage while Fuzzard leads the team with a.375 batting average,.421 on-base percentage and 13 doubles. She is second on the team with five homeruns, 30 RBIs and a.569 slugging percentage while Tara Tembey is batting.325 with nine doubles, three triples, four homeruns, 22 RBIs, a.488 slugging percentage and a career-high and team-leading ten steals. Loudermilk has built upon her strong freshman season to lead the 2008 staff with a 1.90 ERA, 178 strikeouts, 13 wins (13-6), five saves, an opposing batting average of.187 and innings. Nationally, Loudermilk is tied for 6th in the country in saves and is 30th in strikeouts per seven innings with an 8.95 average and is 83rd in ERA while Blevins is 18th in home runs per game (0.31), 26th in slugging percentage and is 48th in RBIs per game (0.88) entering the week. As a team, Chattanooga is tenth in the country with a.976 fielding percentage and trails NCAA leader Texas A&M (.983) by only.007. The Lady Mocs.694 winning percentage ties them for 34th best in the country while their average of 0.80 home runs per game is good for 38th in the nation. They are also ranked 61st in triples per game (0.20), 63rd in slugging (.416), 71st in ERA (2.43) and 84th in scoring (4.35). Scouting the College of Charleston (28-29, 9-6) The College of Charleston enters the weekend with a 4-6 record in the Southern Conference over its last 10 games but seven wins in its last 10 games overall. This past weekend, the Cougars took two of three games from UNC Greensboro after splitting a non-conference double-header with Charleston Southern on April 15. Prior to that, they recorded a series win over Western Carolina from April 12-13, a double-header sweep of Hampton on April 8 and were swept by Furman April 5-6. Shannon Howard paces both the offense and the pitching staff with teamhighs of six home runs and 33 RBIs to go along with a.301 batting average while compiling a record and a team-best 3.99 ERA. Kristie Shifflett is second on the team with a.310 average and 23 RBIs and is tied for second with four home runs, Katie Nutaitis has a.277 average, four home runs and 22 RBIs and Tiffany Harmon leads the team with a.311 average and 35 runs. Terri Mesko is second on the team with a record and leads the team with 193 strikeouts. All-Time Series vs. the College of Charleston In one of their most competitive series, Chattanooga holds a all-time advantage over the College of Charleston since the team s first meeting on April 17, The 8-0 victory that the Lady Mocs recorded on that day was the first of 16 consecutive wins to begin the series before the Cougars swept the 2003 and 2004 regular season series for a five-game winning streak. Chattanooga took the next three, including a pair of victories in the 2004 Southern Conference Tournament, before CofC won seven straight in 2005 and Charleston currently holds a one-game series win streak.
