EIU looks to get some solid playing time in before they wrap up their season this weekend after having 10 of their last 11 games cancelled. The team heads into Tuesday s game overall and 9-4 in the OVC after falling to Murray State 8-0 in their only game of the past two weeks. EIU looks to get back on track before they host OVC No. 2 SIUE Saturday in their final games of the regular season. Jessica Wireman saw her ninegame winning streak come to an end against the Racers falling to on the year. Despite recording the loss, Wireman managed to go 5.2 innings giving up only two earned runs and throwing 10 strikeouts. Illinois is currently on the year while going 13-4 in Big Ten play. Despite dropping two of their last three games, UI has still managed to win 10 of their last 12 games. Illinois will be EIU s first ranked opponent this season as UI is currently receving votes in the NFCA Coaches poll and No. 22 in the NCAA RPI. The last time EIU faced a ranked opponent they lost to No. 17 Auburn 9-1 in EIU has only beaten Illinois twice in program history with UI holding a 15-2 series record over the Panthers. EIU s last win against the Fighting Illini came in 2013 when the Panthers defeated UI 12-1 in Champaign. Illinois is led by senior Nicole Evans who is batting.383 on the year. Evans is second in the Big ten with 15 home runs this season. She is also third in the conference with a.857 slugging percentage and 53 RBIs. UI is led on the mound by Breanna Wonderly who is eighth in the B10 with a 2.42 ERA while holding opposing batters to a.240 batting average so far this year. Panther Rankings Heading into the final week of regular season play, the Panthers are currently ranked fourth in the OVC just ahead of Murray State based on percentages. Despite losing to Murray State, the Panthers still have the third lowest ERA in the OVC with a 2.36 average. Jessica Wireman is sixth in the conference with a 2.17 ERA while recording the fifth most strikeouts among OVC pitchers fanning 149 pitchers this season. Taylor Monahan had her 11-game hitting streak snapped against Murray State in EIU s last outing. Monahan remains seventh in the OVC leading the team with a.366 batting average. Kayla Bear is still looking to get out of her stolen base slump in these next few games. Currently she is in stolen bases and needs only six more to tie Julie Fonda for the single-season record at EIU with 35. As a team EIU is second in the OVC with 67 swiped bags this year. Last Time Out EIU managed to get one game in this past weekend despite cancelling three of their four scheduled games due to severe weather. FIRST SEASON (NINTH OVERALL) KIM INDIANA STATE, 2001 SCHUETTE Kim Schuette, the winningest coach in Eastern Illinois softball history, will have a chance to add to that legacy as EIU Director of Athletics Tom Michael welcomed her back as the Panthers head softball coach on Aug. 26. Schuette begins her second stint as the Panthers head coach following three seasons as Purdue s head coach. Schuette was the Panthers head coach from winning 232 games including 122 OVC contests. She was named the OVC Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2013 as the Panthers won conference regular season titles. During her time at EIU the Panthers finished in the upper division of the OVC race in six out of eight seasons making the conference tournament all but one year. She coached twenty All- OVC selections including OVC Pitchers of the Year Amber May (2011) and Hanna Mennenga (2013). Following her eight seasons at EIU Schuette has posted an record during her tenure at Purdue, including five wins over top 25 opponents. Her student-athletes were honored with nine All-Mideast Region, seven All-Big Ten, two Academic All-America, four Academic All-District and 34 Academic All-Big Ten accolades. Two of her players went on to play in the National Pro Fastpitch League. Purdue finished sixth in the Big Ten Conference in 2014 and twice advanced to the conference tournament quarterfinals. On March 5, 2016, Schuette earned her 300th Division I victory as Purdue defeated the College of Charleston. A former pitcher at Eastern Illinois, she ended her career playing at Indiana State, where she was a two-time Academic All-American and All-Missouri Valley Conference selection as a senior. Schuette graduated cum laude with a bachelor s degree in physical education at Indiana State in 2001 and received a master s degree in kinesiology and societal studies (sports management) from San Jose State in Schuette was the head coach at Quincy University in 2005 and an assistant coach at San Jose State from 2001 to Schuette and her husband Jason have two children PANTHER SUPPORT STAFF
