1 Cardno (NSW/ACT) Pty td trading as Cardno Geotech Solutions ABN P.O Box 4224, Edgeworth 2285 Unit 4/5 Arunga r, Beresfield 2322 [P] [F] [E] Our ref: /0 26 October 2012 ccloy Group PO Box 2214 angar NSW 2309 Attention: r James Goode SITE CASSIFICATION SUARY STAGE 27A NORTHAKES ESTATE CAERON PARK Cardno Geotech Solutions (CGS) has undertaken investigation for the purpose of site classification associated with Stage 27A of the Northlakes Estate in Cameron Park as requested by r James Goode of ccloy Group. The preliminary site classifications provided herein; in accordance with Australian Standard , Residential Slabs and Footings are applicable to lots within Stage 27A in their existing condition at the time of fieldwork and in the absence of abnormal moisture condition. Reference should be made to CGS report reference /0 for full details of fieldwork, testing, and comment and recommendations which should be considered. Investigation was conducted on 5 October 2012 and comprised of excavation of eleven test pits (TP001-TP011). Five (5) shrink swell tests were conducted on samples obtained from the test pits, with results indicating a range of I ss values of 1.4% to 2.6%. Results of fieldwork, laboratory testing, and a drawing indicating the approximate test pit locations along with a fill depth contour plan are attached. It is noted that filling was encountered across portions the site, to depths of greater than 2m as indicated on the attached fill depth contour plan and engineering logs. The filling was conducted utilising materials won from on site and adjacent stages and is generally limited to lots , and a small portion of the rear of lots

2 Page 2 As specified in AS Clause 2.5.3, the classification of sites with controlled fill of depths greater than 0.4m (deep fill) comprising of material other than sand would be Class P. An alternative classification may be given to the site where consideration is made to the potential for movement of the fill and underlying soil based on the condition at the time of construction and the long term equilibrium moisture conditions. The preliminary site classifications for ots within Stage 27A as defined in AS and based on subsurface profiles encountered in the fieldwork are presented below in Table 1. The lots with controlled filling have been re-classified and the classifications below are based on the assumption that all footings are founded below any topsoil in controlled fill or the natural soil profile. Table 1 Expected site classifications ot Numbers (inclusive) Site Classification (1) Class H1 Highly Reactive Class oderately Reactive 2712 (1) Class H1 Highly Reactive Class oderately Reactive (2) Class H2 Highly Reactive Notes: (1) ots are classified as Class P due to the presence of filling (>0.4m in depth) with reclassification conducted with consideration to controlled fill (limited to a portion of the lots). A classification of Class could be adopted where founding in the natural profile underlying the fill. (2) ots are classified as Class P due to the presence of filling (>0.4m in depth) with reclassification conducted with consideration to controlled fill. It is noted that shallow rock was encountered across several lots at the site and where uniformly founding in competent rock, a classification of Class A could be adopted. This would require confirmation of the founding conditions by an experienced structural engineer or geotechnical consultant. A classification of Class has been recommended due to the variable depth to rock encountered across the site. It should also be noted that variable depth of topsoil was encountered, up to 0.45m which would require removal prior to the development. Furthermore; at the time of fieldwork, several stockpiles of soil, organic matter along with a compound area for storage of machinery still burdened a number of lots. The site classifications above are based on the assumption of validation of removal of the stockpiles and remnants from the compound area. If site re-grading works involving cutting or filling are performed after the date of fieldwork, the classifications may change and further advice should be sought. The effects of changes to the soil profile by additional cutting and filling and the effects of past and future tree removal should be considered in selection of the design value for differential movement. ccloy Group Site Classification Summary Stage 27A Northlakes Estate, Cameron Park CGS Ref: /0, October 2012 Cardno Geotech Solutions

3 Page 3 All structural footings (including edge beams, internal beams and load support thickenings) on the above allotments should be founded as follows: In stiff or better natural clayey soils, rock or on controlled fill beneath all topsoil, uncontrolled fill, and deleterious material; and Outside of or below all zones of influence resulting from existing or future service trenches or test pits. All footings should be designed and constructed in accordance with the requirements of AS Adequate surface and stormwater drainage should be installed and maintained on each building site. The classifications presented above is provided on the basis that the performance expectations set out in Appendix B of AS are acceptable and that site maintenance is in accordance with the provisions of CSIRO Sheet BTF 18, Foundation aintenance and Footing Performance: A Homeowner s Guide. 18 Explanatory Notes - General Soil escription The methods of description and classification of soils used in this report are based on Australian Standard 1726 Geotechnical Site Investigations Code. In practice, if the material can be remoulded by hand in its field condition or in water it is described as a soil. The dominant soil constituent is given in capital letters, with secondary textures in lower case. In general, descriptions cover: soil type, strength / relative density, moisture, colour, plasticity and inclusions. Soil types are described according to the dominant particle size on the basis of the following assessment. Granular soils tend to cohere The plasticity of cohesive soils is defined as follows. Plasticity iquid imit ow plasticity 35% edium plasticity > 35% 50% High plasticity > 50% The structure of the soil may be described as follows. Zoning ayer ens Pocket escription Continuous across exposure or sample iscontinuous layer (lenticular shape) Irregular inclusion of different material The structure may include; defects such as softened zones, fissures, cracks, joints and root-holes; and coarse grained soils may be described as strongly or weakly cemented. The soil origin may also be noted if possible to deduce. Soil origin and description Fill Topsoil Colluvial soil Aeolian soil Alluvial soil acustrine soil arine soil Residual soil an-made deposits or disturbed material aterial affected by roots and root fibres Transported down slopes by gravity Transported and deposited by wind eposited by rivers eposited by lakes eposits in beaches, bays, estuaries eveloped on weathered rock The origin of the soil generally cannot be deduced on the appearance of the material and may be assumed based on further geological evidence or field observation.

19 Explanatory Notes - General Rock escription The methods of description and classification of rocks used in this report are based on Australian Standard 1726 Geotechnical Site Investigations Code. In general, if a material cannot be remoulded by hand in its field condition or in water it is described as a rock, is classified by its geological terms. In general, descriptions cover: rock type, degree of weathering, strength, colour, grain size, structure and minor components or inclusions. Sedimentary rock types are generally described according to the predominant grain size as follows. Rock Type CONGOERATE SANSTONE SITSTONE SHAE CAYSTONE escription Rounded gravel sized fragments >2mm cemented in a finer matrix Sand size particles defined by grain size and often cemented by other materials fine 0.06mm to 0.2mm medium 0.2mm to 0.6mm coarse 0.6mm to 2mm Predominately silt sized particles Fine particles (silt or clay) and fissile Predominately clay sized particles The classification of rock weathering is described based on definitions outlined in AS1726 as follows. Term and symbol Residual Soil Extremely weathered istinctly weathered RS W Slightly SW weathered Fresh Rock FR efinition Soil developed on extremely weathered rock; mass structure and substance are no longer evident Weathered to such an extent that it has soil properties Strength usually changed and may be highly discoloured. Porosity may be increased by leaching, or decreased due to deposition in pores Slightly discoloured; little/no change of strength from fresh rock Rock shows no sign of decomposition or staining Rock material strength (distinct from mass strength which can be significantly weaker due to the effect of defects) can be defined based on the point load index as follows. Term and symbol Extremely low E < 0.03Pa Point oad Index I s50 Very ow V 0.03Pa to 0.1Pa ow 0.1Pa to 0.3Pa edium 0.3Pa to 1Pa High H 1Pa to 3Pa Very High VH 3Pa to 10Pa Extremely High EH > 10Pa For preliminary assessment and in cases where no point load testing is available, the rock strength may be assessed using the field guide specified by AS1726. The defect spacing and bedding thickness of rocks, measured normal to defects of the same set or bedding, can be described as follows. efinition Thinly laminated aminated Very thinly bedded efect Spacing < 6mm 6mm to 20mm 20mm to 60mm Thinly bedded 60mm to 0.2m edium bedded 0.2m to 0.6m Thickly bedded Very thickly bedded 0.6m to 2m > 2m efects in rock mass are often described by the following. Terms Joint JT Sheared zone SZ Bed Parting BP Sheared surface SS Contact CO Seam S yke K Crushed Seam CS ecomposed Zone Z Infilled Seam IS Fracture FC Foliation F Fracture Zone FZ Vein VN The shape and roughness of defects are described using the following terms. Planarity Roughness Planar PR Very Rough VR Curved CU Rough RF Undulating U Smooth S Irregular IR Polished PO Stepped ST Slickensides S The coating or infill associated with defects can be described as follows. efinition Clean Stain Veneer Coating escription No visible coating or infilling No visible coating or infilling; surfaces discoloured by mineral staining Visible coating or infilling of soil or mineral substance (<1mm). If discontinuous over the plane; patchy veneer Visible coating or infilling of soil or mineral substance (>1mm)
