2 Rhode Island Background 400 miles of coastline 21 out of 39 communities are coastal First Federal Disaster Declaration for a coastal event since Hurricane Bob in 1991

3 Rhode Island Background cont d Home rule state = no county government Overlapping jurisdictions for the coastal zone NFIP, Mapping and Hazard Mitigation Programs are housed in Emergency Mgmt.

4 Roles and Preparations Acting as both our day-to-day operations as NFIP Coordinator and Mapping Coordinator. When disaster strikes, our ICS roles are activated and turn to GIS Coordinator and State Liaison. Coordinating and reaching out to all communities to ensure all preparatory measures are taken.

13 Response Coordination with all coastal communities began to gauge damage and needs Urban Search and Rescue/Architects and Engineers Taskforce activated with State of Emergency. Initial damage assessments conducted by field teams.

14 Placarding and Rapid Assessments Field teams utilized ATC-45 Rapid Assessment Forms. Placards were used to signify level of structural damage.

15 Data Collection Coordinated with GIS officials for reporting Damage data for impacted structures Used a minimum of 30% damage on RAF s Fed Federal Disaster Declaration Request, IA/PA

22 Lessons Learned Updated floodplain ordinance language Stronger coordination with CRMC Emergency Assents and RIDEM OWTS Agreements in place with USF&W regarding Endangered Species Updated and standardized placards Recognized the need for building stock data
