27 Assessment f Ability t Supprt Student Learning and Develpment 1a) A brief descriptin f the assessment and its use in the prgram: The gal f this assessment is t prvide a methd t gather student perfrmance data at the Capstne f business curses taken. The assessment then serves as a benchmark measure f student perfrmance thrughut the prgram at level III. The capstne assessment is a cmprehensive business simulatin that measures student s ability t make sund business decisins in variety f imprtant areas. Individual student scres are prvided fr each cntent area and thse results are cmpared relative t apprximately 40,000 ther students taking the same assessment at the same time wrldwide. 1b) A descriptin f hw this assessment specifically aligns with the standards it is cited fr in Sectin III. The assessment measures a cmprehensive set f business skills and abilities in the areas f Human Resurce Management, Marketing, Leadership and Business management, financial management, Statistics and Internatinal business as well as creating written reprts and presenting them effectively.. The Capstne assessment measures student s skills and abilities f demnstrated and integrated cncepts within the many cntent areas f business using internatinal business simulatin as the primary tl. The Capstne assessment aligns directly with all fur Prgram Learning Outcmes as utlined belw. Prgram Learning Outcme 1: Knwledge, skills, and abilities in business management, financial management, internatinal business, marketing, statistics, and human resurce management. The capstne assessment is aligned t PLO #1 by evaluating student s ability t critically think, make business decisins, financial decisins, human resurce decisins, marketing decisins, use statistical tls and analysis and perate in glbal envirnment. Prgram Learning Outcme 2: Knwledge, skills, and abilities t cmpete in the glbal market ecnmy. Students are assessed n their ability t make decisins in a glbal marketplace. The business simulatin assessment incrprates thusands f individual student scres frm different universities arund the wrk and cmpares them t ur student scres thrughut the evaluatin perid. Thus, the nature f the simulatin itself prvides infrmatin as t the ability f ur students t cmpete in the glbal market ecnmy (PLO#2)

28 Prgram Learning Outcme 3: Knwledge, skills, and abilities fr emplyment r fr admissin t advanced prgrams in the field f business. When the student is assessed using this capstne simulatin they have the pprtunity t demnstrate prficiency in many areas business leadership and management. The skills demnstrated within the assessment in financial analysis and statistics, leadership and management, human resurce management, and internatinal business peratins prvide evidence that the student is prepared fr entry int an advanced degree prgram and fr wrk in the business field and is therefre aligned with PLO #3. Prgram Learning Outcme 4: Ability t cmmunicate infrmatin in written, ral, and graphic frmats. Students are assessed n their cmmunicatins (Oral, written and graphic PLO #4) skills and abilities within the capstne as student critically evaluate each ther s verall simulatin chices in a frmal presentatin using decisin summary reprt. Thus, the schl can assess the student s ability t effectively relate their ideas in framewrk similar t business presentatin. 1c) A brief analysis f the data findings. The Capstne assessment was taken by just 3 students in (by mid-year) and it seeks t measure utcmes in business management, financial management, statistics, internatinal business, marketing, human resurces, leadership and business management and written cmmunicatin and presentatin skills at level III (Capstne). The student shuld be at least prficient amngst these skills and if s, he r she will pssess many f the abilities t gain advancement t graduate business prgram f study and/r enter the wrkfrce in business. The bjective at capstne is that at least 65% f students taking the assessment wuld be at least prficient in the previusly described areas. We have a small sample size as f this mid-year reprt fr students that have cmpleted the capstne assessment. When we review the individual data ver time we nte the fllwing student prficiency (Or higher) percentage f: In (by mid-year very small sample), the results were the fllwing: PLO #1 33 %

29 PLO #2 33% PLO #3-16.5% PLO #4 33% The students wh tk the capstne assessment were evaluated in each area f business previusly defined and thus apprach the benchmark f 65% prficiency was nt achieved t this pint with a very sample (3). 1d) An interpretatin f hw that data prvides evidence fr meeting learning utcmes. The capstne assessment aligns with each f the prgram learning utcmes and the fllwing sectins will detail the specific evidence fr each utcme. Prgram Learning Outcme 1: Knwledge, skills, and abilities in business management, financial management, internatinal business, marketing, statistics, and human resurce management. The Capstne assessment allws students t demnstrate their skill and abilities in business management, financial management, internatinal business management and glbal peratins, statistics and marketing. The students earn individual scres fr each subject area relative t student scres frm many different Universities wrldwide. This unique set f infrmatin then allws us t make cmparisns and perhaps adjustments. The assessment data supprting PLO #1 suggests that the 33% student prficiency (Or better) benchmark at level III has been achieved relative t many f skills prescribed in the utcme. When we itemized the individual subject areas f PLO #1, such as business management, financial management, marketing and internatinal business the average percentage f students that met r exceeded a prficient level was 44% fr Prgram Learning Outcme 2: Knwledge, skills, and abilities t cmpete in the glbal market ecnmy. The data specific PLO #2 assesses bth quantitative skills and sft skills develped fr use in the glbal marketplace. When the utcmes are examined relative t cmpeting in the glbal market ecnmy, the evidence indicates that 33% f all students taking the capstne assessment are least prficient in terms f glbal marketplace preparedness. Therefre, this utcme is lwer than the 65% prficiency benchmark fr the level III capstne assessment.

30 Prgram Learning Outcme 3: Knwledge, skills, and abilities fr emplyment r fr admissin t advanced prgrams in the field f business We als assessed PLO #3 which when itemized, examines the prpensity f students t gain the skills and abilities t enter advanced degree prgrams and als t g n t wrk successfully in the field f business. When the utcmes are reviewed at capstne it is nted that 16.5% are at least prficient relative t the knwledge and skills necessary t gain emplyment in business r t g int an advanced degree prgram. This percentage fr all data gathered appraches the 65% targeted rate f student prficiency r higher. Prgram Learning Outcme 4: Ability t cmmunicate infrmatin in written, ral, and graphic frmats The final utcme data fr PLO #4 relates t the cmmunicatin skills f students at level ne in written, ral and graphic frmats. When we examine the dataset acrss all years we find that students are generally prficient at capstne as written cmmunicatins skills are 33%, ral skills at 33% and presentatin skills at 33%. The average then f these itemized percentages is 33%, again nt appraching the targeted student prficiency rate r higher f 65%. Capstne Assessment Summary The MGT499capstne assesses each f the fur prgram learning utcmes using a cmprehensive business simulatin as measure student results. The assessment prvides student assessment results in the frm f individual scres (Percentile rankings) in leadership and business management, financial management, human resurce management, financial analysis, internatinal business peratins and marketing management. The schl has targeted 65% as benchmark fr student prficiency r higher and in general this prgram learning utcme expectatin is being achieved in business management, internatinal business, financial management, and marketing which are subject areas within the prgram learning utcme #1. Tw prgram learning utcme #1 subject areas where the expectatins f target were nt apprached r exceeded cnsistently are human resurce management and statistics. Thus, these tw areas will require further analysis and study. The remaining prgram learning utcme results cntinue t apprach r exceed the targeted threshld f 65% student prficiency at level III. Overall, the capstne assessment is well received by student and faculty and mre imprtantly it is assisting the business schl t ensure that students are achieving their learning gals.
