1 98; Rev ; 6/ General Description The are precision, quad, singlepole singlethrow (SPST) analog switches. The MAX36 has four normally closed (N) switches, and the MAX36 has four normally open (NO) switches. Both parts offer low channel onresistance (less than 8Ω), guaranteed to match within 3Ω between channels and to remain flat over the analog signal range ( 9Ω max). Both parts also offer low leakage (less than pa at + and less than na at +8 ) and fast switching (turnon time less than ns and turnoff time less than 7ns). The are fabricated with Maxim s new improved V silicongate process. Design improvements guarantee extremely low charge injection (p), low power consumption (3µW), and electrostatic discharge (ESD) greater than V. The V maximum breakdown voltage allows railtorail analog signal handling capability. These monolithic switches operate with a single positive supply (+V to +3V) or with split supplies (±.V to ±V) while retaining MOSlogic input compatibility and fast switching. The switches operate with bipolar supplies of ±.V to ±V. Typical operating characteristic graphs show typical on resistance for ±V, ±V, and ±V supplies. Switching times increase by a factor of two or more for ±V operation. The can also operate from +V to +3V unipolar supplies. Both parts can also be powered from unbalanced supplies such as +V and V. onnect to V when operating with a single supply. Proper powersupply sequencing is recommended for all MOS devices. Do not exceed the absolute maximum ratings, because stresses beyond the listed ratings may cause permanent damage to the devices. Always sequence on first, followed by, and logic inputs. If powersupply sequencing is not possible, add two small signal diodes in series with the supply pins for overvoltage protection (Figure 6). Adding the diodes reduces the analog signal range to V below and V below, but low switch resistance and low leakage characteristics are unaffected. Device operation is unchanged, and the difference from to should not exceed +V. 6
