Women wear abaya, a long black cloak, over their normal clothes and a scarf to cover their hair. The practice of covering the head and body is called hijab. Bedouins are the nomadic tribes who inhabit Saudi Arabia. They travel with camels, sheep, goats and horses. The long rows in which they move with their belongings and camel are called caravans. They wander through the deserts stopping only for rest and water at an oasis. These nomads use tents made of goat hair. They also rear camels, sheep, goats and horses for various purposes like transport, milk and meat. Arabic bread or khobz is eaten with almost everything. Saudi Arabia is a Muslim state. The summer season is from May to September. The weather is hot and dry during the day time. The nights are relatively cool. The winter season is from October to April. The days are warm and nights are very cold. Sandstorms are common in all seasons. b. In the Prairies machines have almost replaced the manual labour. Explain. The entire farm work in prairies of ploughing, sowing, harvesting, threshing and winnowing is done with machines. The storing of foodgrains is silos are also done with machines. The machines have replaced the manual labour as only a few labours are able to cultivate thousands of hectares. Even the milking of cow is done with machines. c. How has the life of Inuits changed since the past? The life of Inuits have undergone many changes in the recent time. Most of the people now live in houses made of wood and stone. They use rifles for hunting and motorboats for fishing. Many of them have migrated to towns and work in mines. d. Why did world leaders think of forming the UN? The two world wars caused a lot of destruction and suffering in the world. Many countries realized that the war was not a solution to the problems. Greenland is known as the land of Midnight Sun because in winters the Sun does not rise above the horizon for several weeks, hence there are days of conitnuous darkness.
