6 Meteorology Summary Statewide Overview, Next 24 Hours: A cold front is moving through Northeast Florida this morning having cleared the Panhandle and Big Bend overnight. A narrow line of showers is accompanying the cold front in Northeast Florida, but they continue to weaken as they push Southeast. The cold front will move through the Peninsula this afternoon and tonight, but only a slight increase in cloud cover is expected. Cooler and drier air will move into North Florida today with northwest winds at 10 mph. High temperatures will be in the 60s in the western Panhandle and the 70s in the Big Bend and Northeast Florida. With plenty of sunshine today, temperatures will reach the lower 80s in Central and South Florida. Tonight, clear, cool, and dry conditions are expected in North Florida. A few inland locations in the Panhandle will have lows in the upper 30s, but temperatures will remain above freezing. Some patchy fog may develop in the Peninsula near sunrise. Forecast Rain Chances Today Forecast Low Temperatures Tonight

7 Coastal Hazards / Hydrology Rip Currents: Breezy winds behind the cold front today will result in a moderate rip current risk for all Panhandle beaches and Atlantic beaches from Volusia to Miami-Dade. Waves of 1-3 are expected at all Florida beaches. Remember, always swim within sight of a lifeguard. Rip currents can still occur on low risk days! Lake Okeechobee average elevation is feet, which is 2.25 feet below normal for this time of year. The top of the water short management level is feet this time of year. Rip Current Outlook Hydrology: River Flood Warnings are in effect for the Apalachicola, lower Santa Fe, and lower Suwannee Rivers. Moderate flooding is ongoing along the lower Santa Fe River at Three Rivers Estates. All rivers are receding. The Apalachicola River will remain in flood stage through midweek. The Suwannee River may fall below flood stage by next weekend with the Santa Fe into the following week. For more information on specific rivers, please visit the Southeast River Forecast Center here. Current & Forecast River Conditions

8 Drought & Fire Weather Fire Weather: Winds across the state will be at around 10 mph, but relative humidity will remain above critical levels. Soil moisture remains high from recent heavy rainfall in North Florida. Drought regions in South Florida are most susceptible to fire. Thus, a moderate wildfire threat is forecast for the Peninsula today with a low threat elsewhere. A County Burn Ban remains in effect for Gulf County and 5 other counties that are in effect year-round. The Keetch-Byram Drought Index average for Florida is 205 (+4) on a scale from 0 (very moist) to 800 (very dry). There are currently 9 Florida counties with a KBDI above 500, all in South Florida.
