6 Meteorology Summary Statewide Overview, Next 24 Hours: Yesterday s cold front has moved well offshore, leaving some cooler air in its wake this morning. However, this will quickly change beginning this afternoon and tonight. Mostly sunny skies are expected across much of the state, though a few more clouds will be possible along the Gold Coast. An isolated shower is possible along the immediate coast of Southeast Florida this afternoon. Highs this afternoon will warm into the middle to upper 60s across North Florida with lower to middle 70s in the Peninsula. Tonight, winds start to become southerly along the Panhandle coast, which will bring an influx of warm, humid air. The Big Bend will elude the warm air tonight with lows falling into the lower to middle 40s. In the Panhandle and Central Florida, lows will only settle in the lower to middle 50s. South Florida will remain quite mild with lows in the upper 50s to middle 60s. Widespread fog development is not expected tonight, though some patchy fog will be possible in Northeast Florida. 7 Coastal Hazards / Hydrology Rip Currents: Breezy south to southeast winds along Panhandle beaches will result in a moderate rip current risk today. Moderate to strong northeast winds along the First and Gold Coasts will result in a moderate to high rip current risk today in those areas, respectively. Wave heights will be 1-2 along the Gulf Coast, and 3-5 along the East Coast. Remember, always swim within sight of a lifeguard. Rip currents can still occur on low risk days! Lake Okeechobee average elevation is feet as of Tuesday, which is 1.89 feet below normal for this time of year. Rip Current Outlook Hydrology: River Flood Warnings remain in effect for the Santa Fe River at Fort White and at Three Rivers Estates. At Fort White, the river is forecast to fall below flood stage later today. The Santa Fe River at Three Rivers Estates will slowly fall into next week but will remain in minor flood stage. The Ocklawaha River at Rodman Dam remains in minor flood stage. A few rivers throughout North Florida are in action stage today, but are falling. 8 Drought & Fire Weather Fire Weather: Low relative humidity near critical levels and breezy winds around mph are expected across much of the state today. However, rainfall over the last couple days has moistened the soils. Thus, a low wildfire threat is forecast statewide. All active wildfires are shown as 100% contained. A County Burn Ban remains in effect for the 5 counties that are in effect year-round. The Keetch-Byram Drought Index average for Florida is 108 (-24) on a scale from 0 (very moist) to 800 (very dry). Full-fledged geomagnetic storming is not expected, but geomagnetic conditions may be unsettled at times today. The space weather threat to Florida remains very low.
