It is assumed that the K final state originates from the decay of the hyerons Λ(1115) and Λ(1405). In addition to the final state interaction (FSI) arametrized using the Jost function, we have also considered the K + K FSI with the techniques of the chiral unitary aroach, where the scalar mesons f 0(980) and a 0(980) were dynamically generated. Hence, the contributions from scalar mesons f 0(980) and a 0(980) occur through the K + K FSI. It is shown that the available exerimental data are well reroduced, esecially the total cross sections and the invariant mass distributions of and K + K. Furthermore, different forms of the coulings (seudoscalar and seudovector) for the πnn interaction and different strengths for the roton-roton FSI are also investigated. It is found that the contributions from hyeron Λ(1115) and Λ(1405) are different between these two kinds of coulings. On the other hand, the effects of the roton-roton FSI can be adjusted by the cut off arameters used in the form factors. PACS numbers: n.; Gk.; Eg. I. INTRODUCTION The meson roduction reaction in nucleon-nucleon collisions near threshold has the otential to yield information on hadron roerties [1] and also lays an imortant role for exloring the baryon sectroscoy [2]. In recent years, the exerimental database on the reaction of K + K near threshold has been exanded significantly. In addition to the measurements of the K + K total and differential cross sections, below the threshold of the roduction of the φ meson, erformed exerimentally with COSY-11 [3, 4] and ANKE [5] detectors at the cooler synchrotron COSY in Germany, there are invariant mass distributions of various subsystems obtained at excess energies ε = 10, 23.9, and 28 MeV [5, 6] and in Dalitz lots [6, 7]. The total and differential cross sections are also available for the K + K reaction above the φ meson threshold determined by the ANKE [8, 9] Collaboration and the DISTO [10] Collaboration. In resonse to this wealth of data there have been theoretical investigations for the K + K reaction above φ meson roduction [11 13]. However, the theoretical investigations of this reaction below the φ meson threshold are scarce. Below the φ meson threshold, the main contribution to the roduction of K + K air could be through the scalar mesons a 0 (980) and f 0 (980), thus, the original motivation for the study of Electronic address: xiejujun@imcas.ac.cn Electronic address: lidm@zzu.edu.cn the K + K reaction near threshold was to investigate the enigmatic roerties of the scalar resonances a 0 (980) and f 0 (980) [5, 6]. Unlike the roduction of the φ meson above threshold, in the low energy region we do not need to searate the non φ from the φ contribution, and the fact that the data were sread over a wide range of K + K invariant masses gives a secial advantage to investigation of the scalar mesons a 0 (980) and f 0 (980) [5]. These two mesons, which have been studied by a large number of theoretical works, are commonly exlained as conventional q q mesons in the constituent quark model [14], tetraquark states by Jaffe [15], and K K molecules [16]. Besides, within the chiral unitary aroach, the f 0 (980) and a 0 (980) scalar mesons are dynamically generated from the interaction of K K, ππ, and ηπ treated as couled channels in I = 0 and I = 1, resectively [17 22]. Both coule strongly to the K K channel. Insired by those results obtained from the chiral unitary aroach, for the K + K reaction, we take the final state interaction (FSI) between K + and K into account by using the techniques of the chiral unitary aroach as in Refs. [17, 23]. In this sense the contributions from scalar mesons f 0 (980) and a 0 (980) occur through the K + K FSI. This aroach has been used in the investigation of the FSI of mesons in different rocesses in order to get a better understanding of the nature of the meson resonances as shown in Refs. [24 27] It has been suggested that the Λ(1405) could lay an essential role on the kaon air roduction through the K + (Λ(1405) K ) rocess [28] and this rocess seems more imortant than the contributions from the scalar mesons [11, 29]. Indeed, the role layed by
2 2 the Λ(1405) state is crucial for reroducing the K mass distribution [12, 30]. In Ref. [12], the reaction of K + K has been studied by assuming that the K final state originates from the decay of the Λ(1405),wheretheN 1/2 (1535)resonanceactsasadoorway state for the roduction of Λ(1405). However, the model calculations of Ref. [12] underestimate the total cross sections of the K + K reaction near the kinematical threshold (see Fig. 4 of Ref. [12]). So, in the resent work, within the effective Lagrangian aroach, werestudythe K + K reactionbelowthethreshold of the φ meson roduction by considering the contribution from the nucleon ole. Additionally, different forms of the coulings (seudoscalar and seudovector) for the πnn interaction and different strength for the roton-roton FSI are also investigated. In the next section, we will resent the formalism and ingredients necessary for our estimations, then numerical results and discussions are given in Sec. III. Finally, a short summary is given in the last section. II. FORMALISM AND INGREDIENTS We study the K + K reaction below the threshold of the roduction of the φ meson within an effective Lagrangian aroach. The basic Feynman diagrams for this rocess are deicted in Fig. 1, where we ay attention to the contribution from the nucleon ole for the roduction of the KΛ(1115) air and KΛ(1405) air, while the K air is roduced by the decay of the off-shell Λ(1115) and the subthreshold Λ(1405) ( Λ ). Because of the large πnn couling and the small ion mass, the underlying mechanism will be dominated by the π 0 exchange. Thus, the contributions from the η, ρ, and ω exchanges are neglected in the resent calculation. To comute the amlitudes of these diagrams shown in Fig. 1, we need the effective Lagrangian densities for the interaction vertexes. There are two forms for πn N interaction commonly emloyed in the literature [31]. One is the seudoscalar (PS) couling, L PS πnn = ig πnn ψn γ 5 τ πψ N, (1) and the other one is the seudovector (PV) couling, L PV πnn = g πnn 2m N ψn γ 5 γ µ τ µ πψ N. (2) Following the SU(3) flavor symmetry, the KNΛ interaction Lagrangian densities are similar to the πn N interaction, L PS KNΛ = ig KNΛ ψ N γ 5 Kψ Λ +h.c., (3) L PV KNΛ = g KNΛ m N +m Λ ψn γ 5 γ µ µ Kψ Λ +h.c.. (4) In addition, the effective KN Λ(1405) couling is also needed [32], L KNΛ = ig KNΛ ψn Kψ Λ +h.c.. (5) The couling constants in the above Lagrangian densities are taken as [32]: g πnn = 13.45, g KNΛ = 13.98, and g KNΛ = On the other hand, we need to include the form factors because the hadrons are not oint-like articles. We adot here the common scheme used in many revious works. In our calculation, for the πnn vertex, we take the form following that used in Refs. [33 35], F π (kπ 2 ) = Λ2 π m2 π Λ 2, (6) π k2 π where k π, m π, and Λ π are the four-momentum, mass, and cut-off arameter for the exchanged ion meson, resectively. For the cut-off arameter Λ π, we take the value of 1.3 GeV [36, 37]. The form factors for the off-shell nucleon, and the hyeron Λ(1115) and Λ(1405) states are taken in the form advocated in Refs. [38 40], F(q 2 ex,m ex ) = Λ 4 Λ 4 +(qex 2 Mex) 2 2, (7) where q ex and M ex are the four-momentum and the mass of the exchanged hadron, resectively. In the resent calculation, to minimize the number of free arameters, we use the same cut-off arameters for those hadrons for simlicity, i.e., Λ N = Λ Λ = Λ Λ = Λ. The value of the cut off arameter will be discussed in the following. Then, according to the Feynman rules, the scattering amlitudes for the K + K reaction can be obtained straightforwardly with the above effective coulings. Here, we give exlicitly the amlitude of Fig. 1 (a) with Λ(1115)exchange and in the case of PS couling for πnn and KNΛ(1115) vertexes as an examle, M Λ a = g 2 πnng 2 KNΛF 2 π(k 2 π)f(q 2 1,m N )F(q 2 2,m Λ )G π (k π ) ū( 4,s 4 )γ 5 G Λ (q Λ )γ 5 G N (q N )γ 5 u( 1,s 1 ) ū( 3,s 3 )γ 5 u( 2,s 2 ), (8) where s i (i = 1,2,3,4) and i (i = 1,2,3,4) reresent resectively the sin rojection and four-momentum of the initial or final rotons; G π (k π ) [G N (q N )] is the roagator for the exchanged π meson [nucleon]. The π meson roagator used in our calculation is i G π (k π ) = kπ 2, (9) m2 π The roagators of the nucleon and Λ(1115) can be written as G N/Λ (q N/Λ ) = i(/q N/Λ +m N/Λ ) qn/λ 2, (10) m2 N/Λ where the q N [q Λ ]is the four-momentum of the intermediate nucleon [Λ(1115)]. In addition, the roagator of the Λ(1405) resonance is written in a Breit-Wigner form [41], G Λ (q) = i(/q +m Λ ) q 2 m 2 Λ +im Λ Γ Λ (q2 ), (11)
3 3 K K + Λ(Λ ) π 0 (a) (b) (c) (d) FIG. 1: Feynman diagrams for the K + K reaction. where Γ Λ (q 2 ) is the energy-deendent total width of the Λ resonance, which can be exressed as [32] with Γ Λ (q 2 ) = 3g2 Λ πσ 4π (E Σ +m Σ ) Σ q 2 + g 2 Λ KN 2π (E N +m N ) N q 2 θ( q 2 m K m N ),(12) E Σ/N = q2 +m 2 Σ/N m2 π/ K 2 q 2, (13) Σ/N = E 2 Σ/N m2 Σ/N. (14) According to Fig. 1, the full invariant amlitude for the K + K reactionthroughthe rotonand Λ(1115) [ roton and Λ(1405) ] is comosed of four arts: M 0 = η i M i, (15) i=a, b, c, d with the factors η a = η d = 1 and η b = η c = 1. The final state interaction for the final K + K subsystem is given by the meson-meson amlitude from the lowest order chiral Lagrangian with the chiral unitary aroach as in Ref. [17]. We choose five channels K + K, K 0 K0, π + π, π 0 π 0 and π 0 η which are denoted from 1 to 5, to calculate the amlitude T K+ K K + K in the charge eigenstates directly. The scattering amlitude T K+ K K + K can be obtained by solving the Bathe-Saleter equation, 1 T = [1 VG] 1 V, (16) 1 As shown in Ref. [17], the scattering amlitude T K + K K + K is rojected to be S-wave. where G is a diagonal matrix with the matrix elements G ii = i = d 4 q 1 1 (2π) 4 q 2 m 2 i 1 +iǫ(p q) 2 m 2 i 2 +iǫ qmax 0 q 2 dq (2π) 2 ω 1 +ω 2 ω 1 ω 2 [P 02 (ω 1 +ω 2 ) 2 +iǫ], (17) where P is the total four-momentum of the meson-meson systemandq isthefour-momentumofoneoftheintermediate mesons with ω i = ( q 2 +m 2 i )1/2. The loo integration variable is regularized with a cutoff q < q max and q max = 1030 MeV as used in Refs. [17, 23]. With this value, the scalar mesons f 0 (980) and a 0 (980) were dynamically generated as oles of the S-wave amlitudes. Thus, in the resent case, the contributions from scalar mesons f 0 (980) and a 0 (980) occur via the FSI between K + and K. For the FSI of the roton and roton in the final state, we use the general framework based on the Jost function formalism, J(k) 1 = k +iβ k iα, (18) where k is the internal momentum of subsystem. In this case, we use two sets of arameters. One is the widely used 1 S 0 interaction, with α = 20.5 MeV and β = MeV [42, 43]. The other is α = 0.1 fm 1 and β = 0.5 fm 1 (corresonding to α = 19.7 MeV and β = 98.7 MeV) as used in Ref. [8]. Taking the FSI of K + K and subsystems into account, the amlitude of the K + K reaction can
4 4 be written as, 2 M = (M 0 +M 0 G K + K T K + K K + K )J(k) 1. (19) Then the calculations of the invariant scattering amlitude M 2 and the cross sections for K + K reaction are straightforward, dσ( K + K ) = 1 4 m 2 F s 1,s 2 m d 3 3 m d 3 4 d 3 K + d 3 K E 3 E 4 2E K + 2E K s 3,s 4 M δ4 ( K + K ), (20) In Fig. 2, the solid, dashed, dotted, and dot-dashed curves stand for our theoretical results obtained with the arameters of Sets I, II, III, and IV, resectively. Because of the large error bars of the exerimental data oints, from Fig. 2 one can see that with the cut-off arameters of form factors for exchanged hadrons in the different sets listed in Table I, we can reroduce the exerimental data on the total cross sections of the K + K reaction. Also, one can see that although the absolute values of those arameters of different sets have some discreancies, they all can fairly well describe the exerimental data, but, the trend of the results obtained with PS and PV couling are different. where E 3 and E 4 are the energies of the final rotons; K + and E K + [ K and E K ] stand for the four-momentum and energy of the final state K + [ K ],resectively. The factor 1 2 before the δ function comes from the two identical rotons in the final state, while the flux factor F in the above equation is F = (2π) 8 ( 1 2 ) 2 m 4. (21) σ(nb) Since the relative hase between Λ(1115) and Λ(1405) exchanges is not known, the interference terms between theseartscouldbe smallandareignoredinourconcrete calculation. III. NUMERICAL RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS With the formalism and ingredients given above, the total cross section versus excess energy ε for the K + K reaction is calculated by using a Monte Carlo multi-article hase sace integration rogram. The results for ε from the reaction threshold to 30 MeV, which is just below the φ threshold (ε = 32 MeV), and the exerimental data taken from Refs. [3 5], are shown in Fig.2. Inourcalculation, wetaketwotyes(psandpv) of πnn and KNΛ coulings, and two sets of rotonroton FSI arameters. Therefore, there are a total of four combinations as shown in Tab. I. TABLE I: Parameters used in the resent calculation. Set πnn and KNΛ FSI Cut off coulings (MeV) (GeV) I PS α = 19.7, β = II PS α = 20.5, β = III PV α = 19.7, β = IV PV α = 20.5, β = It is worth mentioning that the loo function G K + K and the amlitude T K + K K + K only deend on the invariant mass of the K + K subsystem ε(mev) FIG. 2: Total cross sections vs excess energies (ε) for the K + K reaction fromtheresentcalculation. Theexerimental data are taken from Refs. [3 5]. The solid, dashed, dotted, and dot-dashed curves stand for the results obtained with the arameters of Sets I, II, III, and IV, resectively. However, the contributions of Λ(1115) and Λ(1405) are different between PS and PV coulings. These results are deicted in Fig. 3, where the dashed and dotted lines stand for contributions from Λ(1115) and Λ(1405), resectively. The results shown in individual anels (a), (b), (c),and (d) are obtained with Set I, II, III, and IV. It is shown that the Λ(1115) hyeron lays a dominant role in the case of PS couling, while the Λ(1405) also has a significant contribution. In contrast, in the case of PV couling, the Λ(1405) contribution is redominant while the Λ(1115) hyeron contribution is rather small and can be neglected. Since we only ay attention to the K + K reaction below the threshold of the roduction of the φ meson and also near the Λ(1405) threshold, it is exected that Λ(1405) would lay an imortant role in this energy region [8, 12, 30]. Although the PS couling can also reroduce the total cross section data, it seems that the PV couling is more favored. As shown in Ref. [31], the PV couling is more general than the PS couling. Besides, it is also shown that, for the K + K

The individual anels are (a) results obtained with Set I, (b) results obtained with Set II, (c) results obtained with Set III, and (d) results obtained with Set IV. reaction, the effect of the FSI on the toal cross section can be adjusted by modifying the cut off arameters in the form factors of the intermediate roton and Λ(1115). To show the effect from the K + K FSI, we give the results for the K + K invariant mass sectrum of the K + K reaction at an excess energy ε = 23.9 MeV in Fig. 4, where anels (a), (b), (c), and (d) stand for the results obtained with the arameters of Sets I, II, III and, IV, resectively. In Fig. 4, the dashed lines are ure hase sace distributions, while the solid lines are full calculations from our model. By comaring our theoretical results with the exerimental data, we found that the K + K FSI emloyed within a chiral unitary aroach lays an essential role in describing the line shae of the K + K. The eak near the K + K threshold can be well reroduced by including the K + K FSI with the techniques of the chiral unitary aroach, where the scalar mesons f 0 (980) and a 0 (980) were dynamically generated. In this sense, the f 0 (980) and a 0 (980) mesons lay an imortant role in the K + K reaction below the threshold of the roduction of the φ meson. Furthermore, the FSI can also slightly influence the K + K invariant mass distribution. Here, we find again that the PS and PV coulings are both good enough to reroduce the exerimental data, and the effects of FSI on the differential cross sections can also be adjusted by the cut off arameters. Finally, in Figs. 5 and 6, with the arameters of Set III, we give our model redictions of the differential cross sections for the K + K reaction at excess energies ε = 10 and ε = 28 MeV together with exerimental data [6]. It is shown that our theoretical calculations can reasonably describe the exerimental data at both excess energies ε = 10 and ε = 28 MeV, esecially for the K + K and invariant mass distributions, which is because we have included both the K + K FSI and the FSI. From Fig. 6, one can see that, although we have considered the contributions from the Λ(1405) state, we still can not well reroduce the invariant K mass distribution. This indicates the strong K FSI. In Ref. [30], the role of the two Λ(1405) states which are dynamically generated from the KN and πσ chiral interactions [44 46], is investigated at a roton beam lab = 3.65 GeV (corresonding to ε = 108 MeV for the case of the K + K reaction). It is shown that the kaonexchange term, which is mostly dominated by the high energy Λ(1405) ole, is crucial to roduce the line shae of the π 0 Σ 0 [Λ(1405) π 0 Σ 0 ]. Thus, the kaon-exchange mechanism should be also imortant in the resent case, esecially for roducing the line shae of the K. However, our model can give a reasonable descrition of the exerimental data on the total cross section and most differential cross sections in the considered energy region.
6 6 FIG. 4: The K + K invariant mass distribution (solid lines) at the excess energy of ε = 23.9 MeV comared with the exerimental data [5] and hase sace distribution (dashed lines). The anels (a), (b), (c), and (d) denote the results obtained from Set I, II, III, and IV, resectively. Meanwhile, our calculation offers some imortant clues for the mechanisms of the K + K reaction and makes a first effort to study the K + K FSI with the chiral unitary aroach. Hence, we will leave the issue of the strong K FSI to further studies. IV. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS In this work, we have investigated the K + K reaction within an effective Lagrangian model. With the assumtion that the kaon air roduction is mainly through the nucleon ole, Λ(1115) and Λ(1405), our calculation can reroduce the total cross section at the energy region below the threshold of the roduction of the φ meson. We adoted the seudoscalar and seudovector coulings for the πnn interaction. It is found that both seudoscalar and seudovector coulings can describe the exerimental data, but, the Λ(1115) lays an imortant roleinthecaseofthepscouling, whiletheλ(1405)contribution is redominant for the PV couling. However, considering the contributions from the Λ(1405) state, we still can not well reroduce the invariant K mass distribution, which indicates the strong K FSI. In addition to the FSI using the Jost function, the K + K FSI is also studied with the chiral unitary aroach, where the scalar mesons f 0 (980) and a 0 (980) were dynamically generated as oles of the S-wave amlitudes. In this sense the role of mesons f 0 (980) and a 0 (980) are layed through the K + K FSI. After taking the and K + K FSI into account, the exerimental data on the invariant mass distributions of the and K + K are well reroduced at an excess energy ε = 23.9
7 7 FIG. 5: Differential cross section for the K + K reaction at the excess energy of ε = 10 MeV comared with the exerimental data [6]. The solid curves stand for our theoretical calculations while the dashed lines reresent the ure hase sace distribution. MeV. Besides, it can also be seen that the contribution from the isosin zero channel is much stronger than the isosin one channel in the K + K K + K rocess in a chiral unitary aroach [17], which agrees with the exeriment data analysis given by Ref. [5]. It is evident that the FSI of the four body K + K is extremely comlex. Nevertheless, taking the and K + K FSI into account, the energy deendence of the total cross sections below the threshold of the roduction of the φ meson can be well reroduced by considering the contributions from the nucleon ole, Λ(1115), and Λ(1405). However, the strong K FSI is still required to study by further theoretical works because it always connected with the controversial Λ(1405) state.
