Study of the isospin breaking decay Y (2175) φf 0 (980) φηπ 0 at BESIII Xiao-Dong Cheng 1, Hai-Bo Li 2,3, Ru-Min Wang 1, Mao-Zhi Yang 4 arxiv: v1 [hep-ph] 2 Dec College of Physics and Electronic Engineering, Xinyang Normal University, Xinyang , People s Republic of China 2 Institute of High Energy Physics, Beijing , People s Republic of China 3 University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing , People s Republic of China 4 School of Physics, Nankai University, Tianjin , People s Republic of China Abstract Using measured branching fraction of the decay J/ψ ηy (2175)) ηφf 0 (980) ηφπ + π from the BESIII experiment, we estimate branching fraction of J/ψ ηy (2175)) ηφf 0 (980) ηφηπ 0 decay, which proceeds via the f 0 (980)-a 0 0 (980) mixing and the π0 -η mixing. The branching fraction is predicted to be out O(10 6 ), which can be accessed with J/ψ events collected at the BESIII. The decay is dominated by the contribution from f 0 (980)-a 0 0 (980) mixing. We find that the interference between the amplitudes due to f 0 (980)-a 0 0 (980) mixing and that due to π0 -η mixing is destructive. The branching fraction can be decreased by out 10% owing to the interference effect. We also study the ηπ 0 mass squared spectrum, and find that a narrow peak due to the f 0 (980)-a 0 0 (980) mixing in the ηπ 0 mass squared spectrum should be observed. 2 decay in experiment will be helpful to determine the f 0 (980)-a 0 0 (980) mixing intensity and get information out the structures of the light scalar mesons. 2
1 Introduction The nature of the light scalar mesons a 0 0(980) and f 0 (980) is still a hot topic in hadronic physics. Several models out the structure of the scalar mesons have been proposed, such as q q states, glueball, hybrid states, molecule states, tetra-quark states and the superpositions of these contents [1 11]. Due to the sence of convincing evidence, a final consensus has not been reached so far. Therefore, more researches both in theory and experiment are still needed. The structure of a 0 0(980) and f 0 (980) is closely related to the mixing of them, which was first suggested theoretically in Ref. [12]. Its mixing intensity has been studied extensively on its different aspects and possible manifestations in various processes [13 30]. Recently, BESIII Colloration has reported the first observation of f 0 (980) a 0 0(980) mixing in the decays of J/ψ φf 0 (980) φa 0 0(980) φηπ 0 and χ c1 a 0 0(980)π 0 f 0 (980)π 0 π + π π 0 [31]. In their work, the values of the mixing intensity ξ fa for the f 0 (980) a 0 0(980) transition was obtained ξ fa = (0.99 ± 0.35) 10 2 (solution-1), ξ fa = (0.41 ± 0.25) 10 2 (solution-2). (1) Here, ξ fa is defined as ξ fa = B(J/ψ φf 0(980) φa 0 0(980) φηπ 0 ). (2) B(J/ψ φf 0 (980) φπ + π ) The theoretical calculation prefers to the solution-1 result of BESIII [32]. Here, more works are needed to determine the final solution of ξ fa. The Y (2175) resonance, which deays dominantly via a φf 0 (980) intermediate state, is a vector meson, its J P C = 1 [33]. This resonance was first observed by BABAR Colloration [34] and then confirmed by BESIII Colloration [35] and Belle Colloration [36]. Recent result on Y (2175) resonance in J/ψ decay from BESIII Colloration is obtained as [37] B(J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφπ + π ) = (1.20 ± 0.40) (3) In this paper, we study the isospin breaking decay J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφηπ 0 and estimate its branching fraction by using recent measurements by the BESIII [31, 37]. We also study the distribution of ηπ 0 mass squared spectrum near the K K threshold. 3

The amplitude can be written as M(J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφηπ 0 ) = = M(J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφa 0 0(980) ηφηπ 0 ) + M(J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφπ 0 π 0 ηφηπ 0 ), (4) The corresponding graphs are shown in Figs. 1 and 2. For the contribution of f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing, the mixing intensity ξ fa can be expressed in a similar way as that in Eq.(2), and here is defined as ξ fa = B(J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0(980) ηφa 0 0(980) ηφηπ 0 ). (5) B(J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφπ + π ) Combining Eqs.(1), (3) and (5), one can obtain the branching fraction of J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφa 0 0(980) ηφηπ 0. 4
With ξ fa = (0.99 ± 0.35) 10 2, one can obtain B(J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφa 0 0(980) ηφηπ 0 ) = (1.19 ± 0.58) 10 6, (6) while, with ξ fa = (0.41 ± 0.25) 10 2, one can get B(J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφa 0 0(980) ηφηπ 0 ) = (0.49 ± 0.34) (7) In BESIII analysis for the decays of J/ψ φf 0 (980) φa 0 0(980) φηπ 0 and χ c1 a 0 0(980)π 0 f 0 (980)π 0 π + π π 0 [31], they only assumed contribution from f 0 (980) a 0 0(980) or a 0 0(980) f 0 (980) mixing, which causes the isospin breaking decays. In fact, the final states of φηπ 0 could be also induced by J/ψ φf 0 (980) φπ 0 π 0 φηπ 0 via π 0 -η mixing. If it is the case that the isospin breaking decay is due to both f 0 (980) a 0 0(980) and π 0 -η mixings, actually the BESIII measured values for the mixing intensity ξ fa in Eq. (1) has already included both effects. Therefore the results given in Eqs. (6) and (7) includes both the contributions of f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing and π 0 -η mixing physically. As for the sole contribution of π 0 -η mixing, the relative ratio of B(f 0 (980) π 0 π 0 ηπ 0 ) to B(f 0 (980) π 0 π 0 ) is B(f 0 (980) π 0 π 0 ηπ 0 ) B(f 0 (980) π 0 π 0 ) = 4 f(m f 0, m η, m π 0) f(m f0, m π 0, m π 0) λ π 0 η m 2 η m 2 π 0 2. (8) where m f0, m η, m π 0 are the masses of f 0 (980), η and π 0, respectively. The function f is f(x, y, z) = x 4 + y 4 + z 4 2x 2 y 2 2x 2 z 2 2y 2 z 2. (9) λ π 0 η is the π 0 -η transition amplitude [13, 38], which can be extracted from the ratio of B(η π + π π 0 ) and B(η π + π η) decays [39] λ π 0 η m 2 η m 2 π 0 2 = B(η π + π π 0 ) B(η π + π η) φ s (η π + π η) φ s (η π + π π 0 ), (10) where φ s (η π + π η) = (m η m η) 2 dq 2 f(m 4m 2 π + q 2 η, q 2, m η )f( q 2, m π +, m π +), is the phase-space integral. While φ s (η π + π π 0 ) is the relevant phase-space integral that changes m η to m π 0 in φ s (η π + π η). The relative ratio of B(η π + π π 0 )/B(η π + π η) has been measured by BESIII [40] and CLEO Colloration [41]. The recent value measured by BESIII Colloration is (8.8±1.2) 10 3 [42,43]. Employing the relation B(f 0 (980) π + π ) = 2B(f 0 (980) π 0 π 0 ), 5
Tle 1: The masses of the particles in final states. m π + = 139.6MeV [44] m π 0 = 135MeV [44] m K + = 493.7MeV [44] m K 0 = 497.6MeV [44] m η = 547.9MeV [44] m η = (957.8 ± 0.1)MeV [44] combining Eqs.(3), (8), (10) and using the particle masses taken from Tle 1 and Tle 2, one can obtain B(J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφπ 0 π 0 ηφηπ 0 ) = (0.86 ± 0.31) (11) Obviously, this is much smaller than the results given in Eqs. (6) and (7), which implies that the contribution of f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing dominates over that of π 0 -η mixing in decay J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφηπ 0. 3 The branching fraction As mentioned in Eq.(4), both the f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing and the π 0 -η mixing can contribute to the decay of J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφηπ 0. The most characteristic feature of the first contribution is the narrow peak in the ηπ 0 mass spectrum, which is due to the property of the f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing amplitude [12,16,29]. As far as π 0 -η mixing is concerned, however, the width in the ηπ 0 mass spectrum should be the natural width of f 0 (980) state, which is broad. Fortunately, the contribution from the π 0 -η mixing is much smaller than that from the f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing, so the narrow structure caused by the f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing is expected to be observed, while the broad width from the effect of π 0 -η mixing is negligibly small. The corresponding decay amplitude contributed by f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing is [29, 45] M(Y (2175) φf 0 (980) φa 0 0(980) φηπ 0 ) = = M(Y (2175) φf 0 (980)) Π a0 f 0 (q 2 ) D a0 (q 2 )D f0 (q 2 ) Π 2 a 0 f 0 (q 2 ) g a 0 ηπ0, (12) where q 2 = (p η + p π 0) 2, and g a0 ηπ 0 is the coupling of a0 0(980) to ηπ 0. M(Y (2175) φf 0 (980)) is the invariant amplitude for the decay Y (2175) φf 0 (980), which can be used to calculate 6
the branching fraction B(Y (2175) φf 0 (980)) = M(Y (2175) φf 0 (980)) 2 f(m Y, m φ, m f0 ), (13) 16πΓ Y m 3 Y where Γ Y is the decay width of Y (2175). m Y, m φ and m f0 are the masses of the resonances Y (2175), φ and f 0 (980), respectively. Π a0 f 0 (q 2 ) is the f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing amplitude, and defined as Π a0 f 0 (q 2 ) = g a 0 K + K g f 0 K + K 16π R K + K (q2 ) π [ i ( R K + K (q2 ) R K 0 K0(q 2 ) ) ln 1 + R K + K (q2 ) 1 R K + K (q2 ) + R K0(q 2 ) K0 ln 1 + R K 0 K 0(q2 ) π 1 R K 0 K0(q 2 ) ], (14) where for q 2 > 4m 2 a, R aa (q 2 ) = 1 4m 2 a/q 2, while for 0 < q 2 4m 2 a, R aa (q 2 ) = i 4m 2 a/q 2 1, here a = K ±, K 0. D r (q 2 ) in Eq.(12) is the denominator for the propagator of the resonance r, D r (q 2 ) = q 2 m 2 r [ ReΠ r (m 2 r) Π r (q 2 ) ]. (15) For r = a 0 0(980), = ( ηπ 0, K + K, K 0 K0 ), and for r = f 0 (980), = ( π + π, π 0 π 0, K + K, K 0 K0 ). Π r stands for the diagonal matrix of the polarization operator of the resonance r corresponding to the one loop contribution from the two-particle intermediate states [29, 45], for q 2 (m a + m b ) 2, we have Π r (q 2 ) = g2 r m(+) m( ) ln m b + ρ 16π πq 2 (q 2 ) i 1 m a π ln q 2 m ( )2 + q 2 m (+)2 ; (16) q 2 m ( )2 q 2 m (+)2 for (m a m b ) 2 < q 2 < (m a + m b ) 2, Π r (q 2 ) = g2 r m(+) m( ) ln m b ρ 16π πq 2 (q 2 ) 1 2 m a π arctan m (+)2 q 2 ; (17) q 2 m ( )2 for q 2 (m a + m b ) 2, Π r (q 2 ) = g2 r 16π m(+) m( ) ln m b + ρ πq 2 (q 2 ) 1 m a π ln m (+)2 q 2 + m (+)2 q 2 q 2, (18) m ( )2 m ( )2 q 2 where g r is the coupling of resonance r to final states, m (±) = m a ± m b, and ρ (q 2 ) is q2 q2 m (+)2 ρ (q 2 m ( )2 ) =. 8 As for the contribution of η π 0 mixing, the transition amplitude is M(Y (2175) φf 0 (980) φπ 0 π 0 φηπ 0 ) = 2M(Y (2175) φf 0 (980)) gf 0 π 0 π 0 D f0 (q 2 ) λ π 0 η. m 2 η m 2 π 0 Adding Eq.(12) and Eq.(20) together, we then arrive at M(Y (2175) φf 0 (980) φηπ 0 ) = [ ] Π a0 f = M(Y (2175) φf 0 (980)) 0 (q 2 ) g a0 ηπ 0 D a0 (q 2 )D f0 (q 2 ) Π 2 a 0 f 0 (q 2 ) + 2g f 0 π0 π0 D f0 (q 2 ) λ π 0 η, m 2 η m 2 π 0 where g a0 ηπ 0 and g f 0 π 0 π 0 are the couplings of a0 0(980) to ηπ 0 and f 0 (980) to π 0 π 0, respectively, which can be extracted from B(r ) = (20) (21) g2 r 16πm 3 rγ r f(m r, m a, m b ). (22) By combining Eqs.(10), (13), (21) and (22), we can obtain the distribution of the ηπ 0 mass squared spectrum for J/ψ ηy (2175)) ηφf 0 (980) ηφηπ 0, i.e. B(J/ψ ηy (2175)) dγ(y (2175) φf 0(980) φηπ 0 ) = dq 2 = B(J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφπ + π ) ϕ S δ f0 a 0 + δ π 0 0 η 2, (23) where ϕ S is the phase-space factor of the involved decays ϕ S = Γ Y πq f(m Y, m φ, q2 ) 2 f(m Y, m φ, m f0 ) f( q 2, m η, m π 0), (24) here Γ Y is the total decay width of Y (2175). δ π 0 η and δ f0 a 0 in Eq. (23) denote the contributions 0 from the π 0 -η mixing and the f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing, respectively, which are given in the following 2 B(η δ π 0 η = π + π π 0 ) D f0 (q 2 ) B(η π + π η) φ s (η π + π η) φ s (η π + π π 0 ) Γ f0 m 3 f 0 f(m f0, m π 0, m π 0), (25) here, the minus sign is associated with the λ π 0 η vertex corresponding to the π 0 η transition [13, 46, 47]. δ f0 a 0 = B(a 0 0(980) ηπ 0 ) 0 B(f 0 (980) π + π ) Γ a0 m 3 a 0 f(m a0, m η, m π 0) 8 Π a0 f 0 (q 2 ) D a0 (q 2 )D f0 (q 2 ) Π 2 a 0 f 0 (q 2 ), (26)
Tle 2: Properties of the resonances, here, f 0, a 0 and Y denote f 0 (980), a 0 0 (980) and Y (2175), respectively. m f0 = (0.99 ± 0.02)GeV [44] Γ f0 = 0.074GeV [48] m a0 = (0.98 ± 0.02)GeV [44] Γ a0 = (0.092 ± 0.008)GeV [44] m Y = (2.188 ± 0.010)GeV [44] Γ Y = (0.083 ± 0.012)GeV [44] m φ = 1019MeV [44] g a0 ηπ0 = 2.43GeV [1, 49] g a0 K + K = (2.76 ± 0.46)GeV [50, 51] g a 0 K0 K 0 = (2.76 ± 0.46)GeV [50, 51] g f0 π + π = 1.39GeV [1, 49] g f 0 π 0 π0 = 0.98GeV [1, 49] g f0 K + K = 3.17GeV [29] g f 0 K0 K 0 = 3.17GeV [29] where Γ f0 and Γ a0 are the decay widths of f 0 (980) and a 0 0(980), respectively. From Refs. [1] and [49], the branching fractions B(f 0 (980) π + π ) and B(a 0 0(980) ηπ 0 ) are obtained as B(f 0 (980) π + π ) = , (27) B(a 0 0(980) ηπ 0 ) = ± (28) Using the input parameters listed in Tle 1 and Tle 2, we obtain the result for the distribution curve of the ηπ 0 mass squared spectrum for J/ψ ηy (2175)) ηφf 0 (980) ηφηπ 0 decay, which is shown in Fig. 3. In this figure, the narrow peak due to the f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing can be clearly observed. Furthermore, the branching fraction of the decay J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφηπ 0 is obtained by performing the integration in the effective region (m η +m π 0) 2 q 2 (m Y m φ ) 2, and the result is B(J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφηπ 0 ) = ( ) 10 6, (29) where we have considered the errors of the mass and width of a 0 0(980) and f 0 (980), the errors from the branching fractions of the decays f 0 (980) π + π and a 0 0(980) ηπ 0 as well as uncertainty from the branching fraction of the decay J/ψ ηy (2175)) ηφf 0 (980) ηφπ + π. The contribution from the f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing dominates the predicted branching fraction. In additional, the interference of the amplitudes from the f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing and 9
8.0 d Y 2175 ΦΗΠ 106 GeV 1 dq 2 J Ψ ΗY q 2 GeV 2 Figure 3: the distribution of the ηπ 0 mass squared spectrum (q 2 = (p η + p π 0) 2 ) for the decay J/ψ ηy (2175)) ηφf 0 (980) ηφηπ 0. π 0 η mixing is destructive, the branching fraction is decreased by out 10% owing to the interference effect. 4 Prospects for the measurement at BESIII The final states π 0, η and φ in the cascade decay process J/ψ ηy (2175)) ηφf 0 (980) ηφηπ 0 are reconstructed through the decays π 0 γγ, η γγ and φ K + K. By employing the data reported by the Particle Data Group [44], we obtain B(η γγ) B(φ K + K ) B(η γγ) B(π 0 γγ) = (7.55 ± 0.09) (30) Because of the narrow peak near the K K thresholds in the ηπ 0 invariant mass spectrum, the event selection criteria for the a 0 0(980) candidates has high efficiency. In addition, the final states contain six photons and two charged tracks, the detection efficiency for J/ψ ηy (2175)) ηφf 0 (980) ηφηπ 0 decay can be as large as 8% after the final selection [37, 42, 52, 53]. The BESIII experiment will accumulate huge data sample of J/ψ decays by the end of 2019 [53 55]. Therefore out 80 events for the decay of J/ψ ηy (2175)) ηφf 0 (980) ηφηπ 0 are expected in the J/ψ decay sample at the BESIII. Therefore, the isospin breaking 10
decay J/ψ ηy (2175) ηφf 0 (980) ηφηπ 0 will be helpful to determine the final value of ξ fa in addition to the process J/Ψ φf 0 (980) φa 0 0(980) φηπ 0. 5 Conclusions Basing on the branching fraction of the decay J/ψ ηy (2175)) ηφf 0 (980) ηφπ + π and the f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing intensity ξ fa measured recently by the BESIII, we study the isospin violation decay J/ψ ηy (2175)) ηφf 0 (980) ηφηπ 0, which proceeds via the f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing and the π 0 -η mixing. It is found that the decay can reach a branching fraction of the order of 10 6, which can be accessed with J/ψ events collected at BESIII by the end of The contribution from the f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing dominates the decay. The interference between the amplitude caused by the f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing and the amplitude caused by the π 0 -η mixing is destructive, the branching fraction will be decreased by out 10% because of the interference effect between the two mixings. In the distribution of the ηπ 0 mass square spectrum, we find that the narrow peak due to f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing should be expected, and the effect on the peak from π 0 η mixing is negligibly small. This decay will be complementary to the decay J/ψ φf 0 (980) φηπ 0, which will be helpful to determine the final solution of the f 0 (980)-a 0 0(980) mixing intensity and understand the nature of the light scalar mesons.
