This core s contribution to electromagnetic form factors may be calculated using Poincaré covariant Faddeev amlitudes combined with a nucleon-hoton vertex that automatically fulfills a Ward- Takahashi identity for on-shell nucleons. The calculated behaviour of G E (Q2 )/G M (Q2 ) on Q 2 [2, 6] GeV 2 agrees with that inferred from olarisation transfer data, and exhibits a zero at Q GeV 2. There is some evidence that F 2 (Q 2 )/F (Q 2 ) [ln Q 2 /Λ 2 ] 2 /Q 2 for Q 2 > 6 GeV2. The discreancy between the ratio of electromagnetic roton form factors extracted via Rosenbluth searation and that inferred from olarisation transfer [,2,3,4,5] is marked for Q 2 > 2 GeV2. At values of momentum transfer Q 2 > M 2, where M is the nucleon s mass, a veracious understanding of such data requires a Poincaré covariant descrition of the nucleon. That may be obtained via a covariant Faddeev equation [6,7], whose derivation is based on an observation that the same interaction which describes colour-singlet mesons also generates quark-quark (diquark) correlations in the colour- 3 (antitrilet) channel [8]. While diquarks do not aear in the strong interaction sectrum [9], the attraction between quarks in this channel suorts a icture of baryons in which two quarks are always correlated as a colour- 3 diquark seudoarticle, and binding is effected by the iterated exchange of roles between the bystander and diquark-articiant quarks. The calculation of electromagnetic form factors requires in addition a Ward-Takahashi identity reserving current that is aroriate to a nucleon reresented as the solution of the Faddeev equation []. Reference [] roosed that the nucleon is at heart comosed of a dressed-quark and nonointlike diquark. One element of that study is the dressed-quark roagator. The form used [2] both anticiated and exresses features that are now known to be correct This work was suorted by: the Austrian Research Foundation FWF, Erwin-Schrödinger-Stiendium no. 2 2 [3]. It carries no free arameters, because its behaviour was fixed in analyses of meson observables, and is basic to an effective descrition of light- and heavy-quark mesons [4]. The nucleon bound state is subsequently realised via a Poincaré covariant Faddeev equation, which incororates scalar and axial-vector diquark correlations. In this there are two arameters: the mass-scales associated with the correlations. They were fixed by fitting to secified nucleon and masses: the values are listed in Table. The study thus arrived at a reresentation of the nucleon that ossesses no free arameters with which to influence the nucleons form factors. At this oint only a secification of the nucleons electromagnetic interaction remained. Its formulation was rimarily guided by a requirement that the nucleon-hoton vertex satisfy a Ward-Takahashi identity. The result deends on three arameters tied to roerties of the axial-vector diquark correlation: µ + & χ +, resectively, the axial-vector diquarks magnetic diole and electric quadruole moments; and κ T, the strength of electromagnetic axial-vector scalar diquark transitions. In Fig. we lot a ratio of the roton s Sachs electric and magnetic form factors; viz., µ G E (Q2 )/G M (Q2 ). The behaviour of the data at small Q 2 is readily understood. In the neighbourhood of Q 2 =, G µ E(Q 2 ) G M(Q 2 ) = Q2 6 [ (r ) 2 (r µ )2], () and because r r µ ; viz., the roton s electric and magnetic radii are aroximately equal, the ratio varies by less than % on < Q 2 <.6 GeV 2, if the form factors are aroximately diole. This is evidently true of the exerimental data. The calculated curve was obtained ignoring the contribution from ion loos. Without such chiral corrections, r > r µ and hence the calculated ratio falls immediately with increasing Q2. Incororating ion loos one readily finds r r µ []. It is thus aarent that the small Q 2 behaviour of this ratio is materially affected by the roton s ion cloud. Pseudoscalar mesons are not ointlike and therefore ion cloud contributions to form factors diminish in magnitude with increasing Q 2. The evolution of µ G E(Q 2 )/G M(Q 2 ) on Q 2 > 2 GeV2 is rimarily determined by the quark core of the roton. This is evident in Fig., which illustrates that for Q 2 > 2 GeV2, µ G E(Q 2 )/G M(Q 2 ) is sensitive to the arameters defining the axial-vector-diquark hoton vertex. The ratio asses through zero at Q GeV 2 ; namely, at the oint for which G E (Q2 ) =. In this model the existence of the zero is robust but its location deends on the model s arameters. In comarison with Ref.[], this figure was obtained with increased numerical accuracy in Table Mass-scale arameters (in GeV) for the scalar and axial-vector diquarks, fixed by fitting nucleon and masses: the fitted mass was offset to allow for ion cloud contributions [5]. ω J P = m 2 J P is the width-arameter in the (qq) J P-diquark s Bethe-Saleter amlitude: its inverse is a gauge of the diquark s matter radius. (Adated from Ref.[].) M N M m + m + ω + ω =/(.35 fm).63=/(.3 fm)
3 3 / G M µ G E 2 - JLab JLab Figure. Form factor ratio: µ G E (Q2 )/G M (Q2 ). G E (Q2 ) was calculated using the oint-article values: µ + = 2 & χ+ =, and κt = 2. Variations in the axial-vector diquark arameters used to evaluate G E(Q 2 ) have little effect on the results. The width of the band reflects the variation in G M (Q2 ) with axial-vector diquark arameters and, in both cases, the uer border is obtained with µ + = 3, χ+ = and κt = 2, while the lower has µ + =. The data are: squares - Ref.[]; diamonds - Ref.[3]; and circles - Ref.[6]. the calculation of the Faddeev amlitudes and form factors, and exands the domain of the calculation. The behaviour of µ G E(Q 2 )/G M(Q 2 ) owes itself rimarily to sin-isosin correlations in the nucleon s Faddeev amlitude. In Fig.2 we deict a weighted ratio of the roton s Dirac and Pauli form factors. The numerical results are consistent with Q 2 F2(Q2 ) F(Q 2 ) constant, 2 < Q2 (GeV 2 ) < 6, (2) as are the olarisation transfer data. However, the resent calculation hints that this scaling relation fails for Q 2 > 6 GeV2. In Fig.3 we lot another weighted ratio of Pauli and Dirac form factors. A erturbative QCD analysis [7] that considers effects arising from both the roton s leading- and subleading-twist light-cone wave functions, the latter of which reresents quarks with one unit of orbital angular momentum, suggests Q 2 [ln Q 2 /Λ 2 ] 2 F2(Q 2 ) F(Q 2 ) = constant, Q2 Λ 2, (3)
4 4 Q 2 F 2 /(κ F ) JLab JLab2. Q F 2 /(κ F ) Figure 2. Proton Pauli/Dirac form factor ratios. The data are as described in Fig., as is the band excet that here the uer border is obtained with µ + =, χ + = and κt = 2, and the lower with µ + = 3. where Λ is a mass-scale that corresonds to an uer-bound on the domain of soft momenta. An argument may be made that a judicious estimate of the least-uer-bound on this domain is Λ = M []. The figure hints that Eq.(3) may be valid for Q 2 > 6 GeV2. It is noteworthy that orbital angular momentum is not a Poincaré invariant. However, if absent in a articular frame, it will almost inevitably aear in another frame related via a Poincaré transformation. Nonzero quark orbital angular momentum is a necessary outcome of a Poincaré covariant descrition. This is why a nucleon s covariant Faddeev amlitude is a matrix-valued function with a rich structure that, in the nucleons rest frame, corresonds to a relativistic wave function with s-wave, -wave and even d-wave comonents [8]. The result in Fig.3 is not significantly influenced by details of the diquarks electromagnetic roerties. Instead, the behaviour is rimarily governed by correlations exressed in the roton s Faddeev amlitude and, in articular, by the amount of intrinsic quark orbital angular momentum [9]. REFERENCES. M.K.
