It is the first meeting between the two programs. Syracuse and Florida State are the only two ACC programs Duke has not played against yet in its two seasons. The Blue Devils picked up a pair of midweek wins this week, defeating Radford and Charlotte at home. The wins make Duke 7-3 in its last 10 contests. Despite dropping the series to No. 24 Virginia Tech last weekend, the Blue Devils held the Hokies to their lowest offensive output in an ACC series this season with only 11 runs over the three games. A number of Blue Devils set program records last weekend, headlined by Peyton St. George and Rachel Abboud. St. George tallied 15.1 consecutive scoreless innings, a school best stretch. Abboud turned in a nine-game hitting streak and 25-game reached base safely streak, both program records. St. George has been dominant in the circle in the last five games, turning in a 0.95 ERA and 1-0 record with one save. In 22.0 innings, she has 22 K s and has allowed only three earned runs while holding batters to a.179 clip. In their last 10 games, the Blue Devils have five batters hitting above.300, led by a scorching.419 average from Jameson Kavel. Kavel tops the team with 13 hits and four doubles. Deja Davis leads Duke with eight RBI and a pair of triples, both picked up in the matchups against Radford and Charlotte. One of the nation s best behind the plate so far this season has been Jazmine Moreno, who leads the ACC and is tied for first in the nation with 12 runners caught stealing. She has three games this year with a pair of runners thrown out, all standing as single-game highs. Freshman Kristina Foreman became the first in school history to earn ACC Player of the Week and USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week honors on April 2. Foreman led the Blue Devils by going 9-for-15 (.600) with seven runs, three RBI and two home runs from March She recorded multi-hit performances in all four contests and put together a career-high six-game hitting VS. 5 TEAM NOTES TEAM TWO AGAINST THE ORANGE... This the first meeting in history between Duke and Syracuse Duke is 7-6 this season when playing an opponent for the first time The Blue Devils are 0-1 against teams from the state of New York, dropping a contest against Army earlier this season. GO DJ, THAT S MY DJ... Deja Davis has been a stud on the base paths for Duke, going 17-for-18 in stolen bases, including a pair of 3-for-3 showings to set and then tie the school single-game record. Her 17 stolen bases surpass the program record of 16, set last year by Jameson Kavel. The rookie infielder has also been a threat at the plate throughout the year, recording a team-leading 45 hits and five triples along with 24 runs, three doubles and a pair of homers. The rookie has recorded eight multihit performances since March began and leads the team in that category with 11 this year. Davis put together a 4-for-4 showing against NC Central on Feb. 19, one of three four-hit performances in program history. KEEP EM GUESSING... It s been a year of changes when it comes to the lineup card for the Blue Devils. Through 43 games, they have turned in 35 different lineups by batting order and 19 different ones by position. Duke used a different batting order through the first 22 games of the season. The most games the same batting order has seen is three so far, while Duke has used the same lineup by position seven times. PSA: DO. NOT. RUN. ON. JAZZ... Redshirt sophomore Jazmine Moreno has been second to none behind the plate this season for the Blue Devils, throwing out an ACC-leading 12 runners trying to steal, which also ties for the lead in the nation. Three times this season, Moreno has recorded a pair of RTO s, all career highs. Most recently, No. 30 threw out a pair of runners in Duke s series-opening win against Pitt (March 15). JUST KEEP HITTING, JUST KEEP HITTING... Sophomore first baseman Rachel Abboud has two school records of her own after Duke s doubleheader sweep of Longwood last week. Abboud picked up hits in both contests to up her hit streak to nine-straight games, a program record. She also reached base safely for the 25thstraight contest, a school best. ST. GEORGE SHUTTING BATTERS DOWN... Sophomore hurler Peyton St. George put on two masterful performances in the sweep of the Lancers on April 3. The righty went 2-0 behind a.072 ERA in 9.2 innings of work, tossing 10 strikeouts and scattering three hits while allowing just one run. She also held opposing batters to a.094 clip. St. George held the Lancers scoreless in eight of her 9.2 innings, only surrendering a first-inning home run in the second game of the day. Before Virginia Tech s two runs in the top of the seventh of game two last Saturday, St. George had held opponents scoreless for 15.1 consecutive innings, the longest such streak in school history. JAMESON DOUBLES DOWN... One of the most consistent forces for the Blue Devil bats this year has been sophomore outfielder Jameson Kavel. Kavel, who owns a teambest.314 average and leads the team with 27 runs scored and 13 doubles, became the third player in school history with a four-hit game in the Friday contest at Georgia Tech. The sophomore went 4-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, two more driven in and a double. It was a day of doubles for Kavel in Duke s extra-innings win against Kansas on March 2. The sophomore outfielder went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in two runs, with all three of her hits being for two bases. Her three doubles made her the first player in school history to record at least three in a game. Kavel put up her second multi-double contest of the year in Duke s matchup against Elon on March 6. DEFENSIVE EXCELLENCE... Earlier this season, Duke put together one of its best defensive stretches in program history, not committing an error in five-straight games from March 2 against Mississippi State to March 6 at Elon. The stretch of five-game stretch is a program record, besting the four-straight contests from last year set through the first four games in the Citrus Classic (Feb ) in Orlando, Fla. For the year, the Blue Devils sport a.973 fielding percentage, which is third in the conference and up to 23rd nationally. TRIPLE TROUBLE... The Blue Devils have established themselves as one of the top squads in the nation when it comes to tallying triples. Through 43 games, Duke has accumulated 17, which stands second in the ACC and surpasses its 2018 total of nine. Duke s 0.40 triples per game average is seond in the conference and sixth in the NCAA. Deja Davis leads the squad with five triples on the year, while Jameson Kavel is second with four. Kavel has cemented her status as the master of getting extra bases so far this season with a team-high 18 XBH. Davis is second in the ACC and up to eighth nationally in triples, while coming in at third in the conference and 35th in the NCAA with a 0.12 triples per game average. Davis five also ties the program record for a single season, set last year by Kavel. GOT THE NEED, THE NEED FOR SPEED... The Blue Devils have been a terror on the base paths for opposing teams so far this year. Duke has 55 stolen bases, 31 more than where they stood through the first 43 games of last season. Earlier this year, the Blue Devils tallied six steals against NC Central, which set the program single-game record. That mark had been previously set the game before with five against Penn State on Feb. 17. After recording just one game of at least four steals last year, Duke has four so far this season. LATE LEAD = MAJOR KEY... Holding the lead late is a major key to success for Marissa Young s squad over the first two years of the program. This year, the Blue Devils are 15-1 when leading after five and 15-3 when taking the lead into the seventh. In their two years, Duke is 38-3 when leading after six innings. On the flip side, Duke has struggled when trailing late, going 2-16 when down after five and 1-16 when losing through six. In their win in the series opener against Pitt, the Blue Devils picked up their first win in history when entering the seventh trailing (1-35). Duke s loss to Elon on March 6 was its first defeat when leading entering the seventh in program history. MAKING SACRIFICES... For the second-straight season, the Blue Devils are one of the best in the ACC when it comes to dropping the sacrifice bunt. With 46 on the year, the squad leads the conference handedly, with the next closest team, Boston College, in the category tallying 28 this year. Three Blue Devils stand in the top 10 of the ACC in sac bunts, with Jazmine Moreno leading the way with 10. She is also tops in the ACC and 28th nationally with 0.24 sacrifice bunts per game. FIVE. IN. A. ROW... With their doubleheader sweep of Longwood last Wednesday, the Blue Devils secured a season-long winning streak of five-straight games, which tied the program record. Duke won five-in-a-row twice last season (Feb & April 21-29). Last year, Duke reeled off five-straight ACC wins from April 21-29, taking the final two at Virginia Tech before sweeping Virginia to close out regular season league play. FOREMAN ON FIRE... Freshman Kristina Foreman went on an absolute tear two weeks ago at the plate, leading the Blue Devils in almost every category en route to being named USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week and ACC Co-Player of the Week, the first time in school history a player has earned either honor. The Tampa, Fla., native finished the week 9-for-15 (.600) at the plate with seven runs, three RBI and two home runs, along with a slugging percentage. She did not strike out once, earned one walk and was hit by pitch for a.647 on-base average. She recorded multi-hit showings in all four contests during the week. In the series sweep against GT, Foreman went 7-for-11 (.636) with six runs, three RBI, two homers and a scorching slugging clip and.667 OBP. Foreman leads the team over the last 10 games with a.433 clip with 13 hits, nine runs, eight RBI, three homers, one double and a.767 SLG%. BLUE DEVILS RECORD HISTORIC WEEKEND IN THE ATL... It was a weekend to remember in Atlanta for the Blue Devils, as they swept the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for their third-straight ACC series win of the season. The sweep is the first in program history for a conference road series and saw the Blue Devils set program records in hits (41), runs (28), RBI (26) and home runs (6) for an ACC series. Duke also set program marks for single-game runs (11) and homers (3) in its series-clinching win on Saturday. 5

6 TEAM NOTES CAROL WITH THE CANNON... Caroline Jacobsen showcased her cannon of a right arm in Duke s series-clinching run-rule win at Virginia and earned some time in the national spotlight because of it. The freshman caught a fly ball in right and launched a laser of a throw to third base, catching the runner tagging up at second to complete the double play. Jacobsen landed at No. 7 on SportsCenter s Top 10 Plays, becoming the first player in school history to do so. Jacobsen s throw also caught the attention of MLB superstar right fielder Yasiel Puig of the Cincinnati Reds, who quote tweeted the video. FOREMAN TURNS IN CAREER DAY AT UVA... Jacobsen s highlight reel play wasn t the only impressive feat in the series-clinching win. Kristina Foreman drove in five runs to spearhead Duke s offensive efforts, becoming the first player in program history to record five RBI in a single game. Foreman used a two-rbi double in the first to give Duke the lead and blasted a three-run home run later in the contest, her second bomb of the season, to complete her day. SERIES WIN NO. 2 IN THE BAG... Thanks to a pair of impressive showings on the offensive side, the Blue Devils took the weekend series against the Virginia Cavaliers, marking the second ACC series win of the year. It s the sixth series win in program history and third on the road. Virginia is the first program Duke has won two series against in history, sweeping the Cavaliers in Durham last year. BLUE DEVILS DOWN PITT FOR FIRST ACC SERIES WIN... The Blue Devils weather through a lightning delay to reel off a walk-off comeback win, followed by a run-rule victory in game two, to pick up their first ACC series win of the season. With the two wins against Pitt, Duke earned its first series win against the Panthers in program history and the fifth series victory in its year and a half of competition. Brianna Butler paced the Blue Devils with a.667 average at the plate, highlighted by her first-career home run. She also turned in a 2.44 ERA and one victory while striking out six to pace the Blue Devils from the circle. DUKE PICKS UP FIRST WIN AGAINST UNC... After dropping the first two games of the series, including a tight 4-2 decision in the opener, the Blue Devils closed out the weekend with a 2-1 victory against the Tar Heels. The win is the first in program history for Duke against its rival. The Blue Devils were paced by Brianna Butler in the circle, as the sophomore tossed a complete game, one-run performance against the Tar Heels to pick up her fourth win of the season. Kristina Foreman paced the Duke offense, driving in the two runs with a single in the first. DUKE EARNS FIRST PAC-12 W... Despite a rough weekend, the Blue Devils capped their time at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a 4-3 win against the Utah Utes. The victory gives Duke its first win against a Pac-12 program after falling in a tight 1-0 contest to Cal two days prior. Duke now needs a win against the Big 12 and SEC to have at least one victory against a team from each Power 5 conference. WALTERS SHINES AGAINST PENN STATE... Freshman Shelby Walters was locked in from the get-go in Sunday s 3-1 win against the Penn State Nittany Lions. Not even an hour and 23 minute rain delay could slow down the righty ace as she turned in her second complete game of the weekend and registered a career-high six strikeouts to earn her first-career victory. GOING BAAAAACK TO BACK... Wednesday s win at Campbell featured a little bit of history courtesy of two of Duke s newest members. With two on and no outs in the fifth, freshman Caroline Jacobsen blasted a three-run shot on the first pitch to left, just like she did in her first-career homer in Mexico. Freshman Kristina Foreman followed her lead, hitting a solo shot to right center to give Duke back-to-back home runs for the first time in history. NO REST? NO PROBLEM... Opening day of year two started off early for the Blue Devils, with a 3:30 a.m. departure leading off a day of air travel to Puerto Vallarta. First pitch came across between Duke-Notre Dame at 9:30 p.m. ET that night, but that did not phase the Blue Devils. Duke would defeat Notre Dame, 7-3, before picking up another win two days later against Big South power Liberty, 3-1, to finish opening weekend with a 2-2 record. KAVEL, JACOBSEN TABBED ALL-PVCC TOURNEY TEAM... Year two started with a strong performance south of the border for the Blue Devils and a lot of credit for that goes to the strong play of Jameson Kavel and Caroline Jacobsen. The two led Duke offensively throughout the weekend to earn Puerto Vallarta College Challenge All-Tournament Team honors. Kavel led all Blue Devils with a.400 clip and scored four of the team s 11 runs for the week. Jacobsen finished with a.364 clip, three RBI and a home run on the week. WILSON NAMED ALL-ACC PRESEASON TEAM... After earning All-ACC First Team honors last season, Raine Wilson was named one of the 15 members of the inaugural Preseason All-ACC Team. The Mechanicsville, Va., native finished the year standing top 10 in the ACC with 15 doubles (2nd), 62 hits (T-3rd), a.371 clip (5th),.453 on-base percentage (5th),.593 slugging percentage (7th) and 35 runs batted in (7th). She also topped the team with 19 multi-hit contests and nine multi- RBI performances, including being one of two Blue Devils to drive in four runs in a single game. ALL-ACC TALENT RETURNS FOR THE BLUE DEVILS... Three of the best in the ACC in 2018 return for year two in a Blue Devil jersey, as All-ACC honorees Raine Wilson, Rachel Abboud and Peyton St. George lead the way in Wilson, who topped the team in nine different statistical categories, became the first player in program history to be named All-ACC First Team. Abboud and St. George became the first to earn ACC All-Freshman Team honors. Abboud was a constant force at the plate and as Duke s first baseman, while St. George was dominant in the circle, leading the league in runs allowed and earned runs allowed. NEWCOMERS SET FOR FIRST YEAR... Seven members of the 2019 Duke softball squad will see collegiate action for the first time when the Blue Devils open up year two on Thursday. The class, which head coach Marissa Young reeled in just before the start of Duke s inaugural campaign, came to Durham ranked 13th in the nation. Of the seven players, five were ranked inside the FloSoftball Top 200 and three within the Top 100, which was the most amongst ACC schools. The squad was the second-highest ranked class amongst ACC programs, falling just one spot behind Florida State. GAGLIANO ADDS VETERAN PRESENCE... For the second-straight season, the Blue Devils have a fifth-year player on their roster, as Marissa Gagliano joins Jill Ferraro as the only two graduate student players in Duke history. The Riviera Beach, Fla., native joined the Blue Devils after a standout career at Radford. In 2018, Gagliano was the catalyst for the Radford offense, leading the squad in batting average (.361), hits (65), runs (46), doubles (16), total bases (94), slugging percentage (.522), on-base percentage (.453) and stolen bases (20). She was also one of the best in the conference at the plate, standing top 10 in the Big South in seven offensive categories and top five in runs scored and doubles. RECAPPING A SUCCESSFUL YEAR ONE... Duke finished its inaugural campaign with a overall record and mark in conference play to earn the seventh seed in the 2018 ACC Tournament. Duke s 13 wins in conference play were highlighted by four series victories, including the last three of the year. A sweep of Boston College was the first home ACC series win in program history. Duke then added road series victories against Notre Dame and Virginia Tech before closing the ACC slate with a sweep of Virginia at home, crushing the preseason prediction that the Blue Devils would finish last in the league. YOUNG SIGNS ANOTHER TOP 25 CLASS... For the second-straight year, Duke head coach Marissa Young reeled in a top 25 recruiting class with the additions of Gisele Tapia, Kamryn Jackson and Felise Collins for the 2020 season.
