1 AMERICAN COMOSERS EDITION JOHN GISON lue Traces fr ian, cmuter, and string rchestra 2009 American Cmsers Alliance (MI).cmsers.cm
2 erfrmance Ntes Accidentals aect the ntes they immediately recede, any tied ntes that fll, and any cnsecutively reeated ntes. The cmuter recrds shrt segments f the live ian sund, and then lays the segments back in varius ays t cnstruct an accmaniment fr the ianist. The ianist is in cntrl f hrasing, and the timing f every event, thrughut the iece. edal markings labeled ith the letter indicate laces t deress a secial MIDI edal that tells the sftare hen t recrd. Each f these edal events cmes ith a circled cue number abve the sta, fr crdinatin ith the cmuter sftare. The sftare runs inside the Max/MS envirnment during the erfrmance and requires a human eratr. Either the ianist r the eratr can issue the edal cues. There shuld be a high-quality cndenser micrhne aimed int the ian case. The mic shuld be clse enugh t the ian t get a clear sund ithut icking u anything frm the seakers r hall, but nt s clse that the sund becmes brittle, r hammer and edal nises becme t rminent. The micrhne feeds int the cmuter system. The iece requires a quadrahnic sund system ith subfer. All seakers are in frnt, frming ne relatively narr stere air (channels 1 and 2) and ne very ide air (channels 3 and ). These shuld all be in the same hrizntal lane and sitined t blend ell ith the ian. The erfrmer and cnductr each may require a stage mnitr, carrying a mn mix f all fur channels. sitin these mnitrs s that it des nt aim tard the audience and des nt leak int the ian micrhne. Duratin: abut 13-1 minutes
