S. Rubber Cmpany cllabrating with the Reynlds Metals Cmpany. c.,^ - 2. The resistance f these samples t perfratin by cal..45 steel-jacketed ball prjectiles and by the cal..22 fragment-simulating prjectile, Ö-S'^T'wa greatly inferir t that f Hadf"eld manganese steel f equivalent weight-per-unit area that tests with ther fragmentsimulatrs were nt cnducted. t was nticed that when the verall weight was kept cnstant but the weight f the aluminum cmpnent was increased the resistance f a sample decreased., w.^». 3. Samples were welched and measured and the weight-per-squareft and the equivalent steel gauge determined. Samples vere then rigidly clamped t wden ballistic frames and mpacted fairly with cal..u5 steel-jacketed ball prjectiles and with cal..22 fragment simulating prjectiles, 0-2, The results f these tests are ncluded n Table. h. The resistance f nne f these samples t perfratin by the test prjectiles used cmpared with that f an equivalent weight f Hadfield manganese steel. As might have been anticipated frm earlier tests f the cmpnenteparately (in which the fiberglas laminate exhibited high resistance and the aluminum ally exhibited lw resistance) samples f equal verall weight increased in resistance t perfratin as the weight f aluminum emplyed decreased U70./U76 - vftn 470./Y25U - 3 July 9^ 2.
