Both teams enter the weekend possessing some of the most prolific offenses in the entire country as Nevada and Boise State hold top 15 rankings with their team batting averages. Aside from their impressive batting averages, the Broncos and Wolf Pack also rank inside the top 15 in the country in runs scored per game. LAST TIME OUT Nevada won its third series of the 2018 campaign by taking down San Diego State, 2-1, marking the first time in program history the Wolf Pack has won a season series against the Aztecs. Since the opening weekend of MW play, Nevada has now won seven of its past 11 games. Against the Aztecs, junior Amanda Geil put together some of the performances of her career, having earned a win and the first save of her career on the weekend. Along with her 0.50 ERA in 14.0 innings of work, Geil's outings were recognized by the conference as she was named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week. In the first game of the series, junior Jennifer Purcell came off the bench in the top of the eighth and recorded a two-rbi double, which proved to be the difference in the game as the Pack won the contest The rubber match of the series saw sophomore Kwynn Warner breakout for a pair of solo home runs. 4 APRIL RENO, NEVADA 4 Josh Taylor enters his second year at the helm of the Nevada softball program, following a successful first season with the Wolf Pack. In just his first year, Taylor, a former baseball player and a member of the Nevada Hall of Fame, brought Nevada back to the postseason for the first time since Under his direction, Nevada saw four of its players receive Mountain West All- Conference honors in 2017, including two first-team selections. In 2017, Taylor also helped the Pack reach the 30-win plateau in back-to-back seasons, which is the first time such a task has been accomplished since the 2008 and 2009 seasons. With a record in conference play, Taylor guided Nevada to record the program s most wins in MW play since joining the league in Two of those wins came at Fresno State, who was the preseason favorite to win the conference in In his first year as a Division I head coach, Taylor earned his first victory over a top 25 team as he led Nevada to a seventh inning, comeback win over No. 17 Utah. Taylor also earned two more wins over Power-5 schools in 2017, defeating Iowa State and Kansas in the process. Prior to moving back to Reno, Taylor serve a brief, two-month stint in charge of the softball program at the College of Southern Nevada before being named the head coach at Nevada in August He joined a Wolf Pack softball program that he was very familiar with as Taylor has been part of the Wolf Pack coaching staff since the 2012 season. Before accepting the position at the College of Southern Nevada, Taylor served as the assistant softball coach at Nevada for four seasons, where the team saw three winning seasons and over 100 wins. During his time under previous head coach Matt Meuchel, Taylor was responsible for all aspects of team and individual defense while also overseeing HEAD COACH JOSH TAYLOR camps and clinics, recruiting visits and recruiting databases. In 2016, Taylor helped lead the team to one of its most successful seasons since joining the Mountain West. The 32 wins Nevada collected marked a 19-win improvement from the 2015 campaign and earned Nevada a third place tie in the 2016 MW standings, which is the team s highest finish as a member of the conference. His first season leading the defense was the Wolf Pack s best, setting a school record with a.965 fielding percentage that also ranked second in the Mountain West. Nevada also committed just 52 errors as a team that season, the second-lowest total in the conference. Prior to joining the Wolf Pack, Taylor served as the head coach at Feather River College in Quincy, Calif. Taylor, who was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Feather River baseball team in his first stint from , led the Golden Eagle softball program to three-consecutive Super Regional appearances from 2010 to His overall record in his four years at Feather River was The 2012 season was highlighted by Taylor s third-consecutive 30-win season and his 10th playoff victory in the regional playoff. In 2011, Feather River reached its secondstraight Super Regional in a season that also saw Taylor receive the Gatorade Coach of the Year award. In 2010, Taylor was named Golden Valley Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Golden Eagles to their first GVC title since The Taylor-led offense topped the GVC in team batting average, runs, RBI, doubles and triples. While at Feather River, Taylor oversaw all major aspects of the program including travel and budget, academic progress of studentathletes, recruiting efforts, facility and maintenance upkeep and weight training. Taylor also developed and implemented fundraising efforts for the program. Feather River also put Taylor to the task of serving as the fitness center director and an advisor for the Associated Students of Feather River College. Taylor previously served as associate head coach for the Marysville Gold Sox, a collegiate summer league team, from On top of running all aspects of hitting and fielding instruction, Taylor coached multiple players who went on to earn Division I scholarships and two big leaguers in Cody Anderson and Max Stassi. Prior to joining the Gold Sox, Taylor spent a season as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at San Joaquin College in Stockton, Calif. from A former Wolf Pack baseball player, Taylor had an impressive senior season in 1994 where he appeared in 41 games, starting in 25, hit.284 with a home run and 12 RBIs. That year, the Pack compiled a season record of while going 16-5 in the Big West Conference en route to capturing its first Division I conference championship and appearing in the program s first NCAA Regional. Nevada was ranked as high as No. 6 in the nation that season and finished the season ranked No. 17. Taylor was inducted into the Nevada Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015 as part of the 1994 baseball squad. Entering the month of April, Hansen was one of just five players in the country to record the following stats:.425+ BA,.850+ slugging %,.500+ OBP, 25+ runs, 40+ hits, 35+ RBIs, 10+ HRs and 80+ TB. Since the start of the second weekend of the season, Hansen has batted a lights-out.444 (44-for-99) with 38 RBIs, 29 runs scored, while slugging.889. She currently leads the Wolf Pack in nearly every offensive category and ranks in the top five in the MW in batting average (5th,.409), home runs (2nd, 11), RBIs (3rd, 39), slugging percentage (1st,.809) on base percentage (2nd,.500) and total bases (2nd, 89). In the Pack's first home series against New Mexico (March 24-25), Hansen put on an absolute show for Wolf Pack fans, batting.727 (8-for-11) with nine RBIs and seven runs scored to go along with her three home runs in all three games versus the Lobos. Her performance that series resulted in her earning MW Player of the Week for the first time in her career. To start conference play, Hansen put together a 13-game hitting streak that was snapped in the final contest against SDSU. She also began Mountain West games having gone without a strikeout in her first 40 at bats. IT'S GOINS TO BE A GOOD YEAR With a Mountain West Player of the Week accolade already underneath her belt, sophomore Kenzi Goins is currently putting together a historic 2018 campaign. Goins has emerged as one of the best hitters in the conference as she ranks inside the top 10 with her.392 batting average (9th) and 47 hits (8th). Against league opponents, Goins has produced even higher numbers with her.418 batting average. Entering this weekend, her 23 hits its tops amongst all players, while her 39 total bases during conference play ranks second only behind Hansen who has 40. In the Pack's three-game set against Utah State, Goins helped lead Nevada to its second series win of the season, which resulted in her earning the first conference weekly accolade of her career. Against the Aggies, Goins batted.727, drove in five runs, scored another five and smashed her fourth home run of the season. MVPs OF POWs The Pack's individual talent has received some significant recognition this season, having received a conference weekly accolade in three of the past four weeks. All three of those conference weekly honors have come from three different players. Hansen earned the first Player of the Week honor for the Pack after her performance against New Mexico (March 23-25), marking the first time since 2016 a Wolf Pack player received MW Player of the Week. Hansen has also been recognized on a national scale, receiving conference Player of the Week honors from CollegeSportsMadness.com. Nevada then won back-to-back MW Player of the Week accolades, courtesy of Goins' weekend against Utah State (March 29-31). Junior Amanda Geil received Nevada's first MW Pitcher of the Week honor after her career outings against San Diego State (April 13-15). 'B' LEGENDARY On March 22, Wolf Pack assistant coach Brianne Durfee (formerly McGowan) was inducted into the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) Hall of Fame for putting together what is considered one of the most successful careers in Nevada high school softball. By the time she finished her four-year career at Wooster HS, Durfee's name was written all over the Nevada state record book as she finds herself throughout the wins, strikeouts and ERA categories. Durfee led the Colts to four consecutive 4A state titles and was named the state's Gatorade Player of the Year in her junior and senior seasons. WE'RE GOING STREAKING The Pack's offense has been on an absolute tear as of late, which has resulted in Nevada winning 16 of its past 24 games. Nevada has also heads into its series with Boise State having hit at least one home run in every weekend of competition this season. After having her 13-game hitting streak snapped against Montana (March 4), sophomore Sadaria McAlister has bounced back and has now hit safely in 14 out of her last 17 games, including a career-high three hits against SDSU (April 13). Other streaks of note from this season include Hansen posting a team-best 14-game hitting streak, the longest of her career at Nevada and sophomore Haley Burda having hit safely in nine of her past 10 games. Earlier this season, the Wolf Pack strung together a stretch where Nevada won seven consecutive games, bouncing back from a six-game losing skid. The winning streak marked the longest the program has had since the 2016 campaign.

6 APRIL RENO, NEVADA 6 #RiseUp Looking to build off of last year's postseason run and continue its rise in the Mountain West, 2018 features Nevada softball launching #RiseUp as a trademark to the program's upward trend of success. One of the overarching themes of #RiseUp is to represent Nevada softball's characteristic of not being afraid of the moment and the team's ability to rise up to the occasion. On top of that, #RiseUp resembles how the Wolf Pack continues to climb the ranks in its conference as an up-and-coming power in the Mountain West. HOME GROWN The Wolf Pack has discovered it doesn't need to look far in order to find players that best fit its program as nearly 40 percent (10 players) of the 2018 roster is from the Northern Nevada region. Goins, along with freshmen Julia Jensen, Jessica Sellers and Rheanna Smith all played together at Reed HS, where the four of them have had success in years past, winning a state championship in Not all of the Pack's Northern Nevada players are from the Reno-Sparks area as Nevada's roster covers nearly 1,100 square miles of the Northern Nevada region. NEVADA CHOSEN FIFTH IN PRESEASON POLL The Wolf Pack was slated fifth in the Mountain West preseason poll, which was voted upon by the league's coaches and announced on Feb. 5. This is the second year in a row Nevada has been picked to finish fifth. With a total of 63 points and seven first place votes, San Diego Stae was chosen to win the conference. Following the Aztecs is reigning MW champion San José State, who received 57 points and two first place votes. Fresno State (44) edged out Utah State (43) for third place, while Nevada (37), Colorado State (30), Boise State (27), UNLV (14) and New Mexico (9) rounded out the field is this season's preseason poll. A TOUGH 2018 SLATE With 23 contests prior to the start of conference play, the Pack squared up against a pair of Power-5 opponents and seven teams that competed in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. Nevada's lineup this season has featured matchups against a perennial national powerhouse in 14th-ranked LSU as well as James Madison and three other teams that were part of the USA/NFCA coach's preseason poll, including Long Beach State who is currently ranked 18th is also highlighted by a three-game series with the reigning MW Champion San José State Spartans and a trio of contests with San Diego State, who was picked to win the conference in the preseason poll. ROAD WARRIORS Prior to its home-opener against New Mexico (March 24), Nevada played its first 26 games away from Hixson Park, including 23 nonconference contests to begin the season. Out of the 50 games that are on Nevada's schedule, 35 will be played outside of Reno, making this the second consecutive season the Pack will play more than 60 percent of its games away from Hixson Park.
