Since the inaugural season in 1998, North Texas has accumulated a dual-meet record of and is coming off its most successful season in school history. History Against SMU, TCU The Mean Green will be looking for its first win against both TCU and SMU. North Texas is a combined 0-22 against the two universities. The Mustangs claimed their 11th consecutive conference crown in 2007, while the Horned Frogs and the Mean Green met up twice last season. North Texas will get a second crack at each team as the Mean Green will head to SMU on Nov. 9 for a tri-meet versus the Mustangs and Wyoming. The Mean Green travels to Ft. Worth to battle TCU on Feb. 6 in dual meet action. 15 Return After posting a dual-meet season record of 7-5 and a fourth-place finish at the Sun Belt Conference Championships, the Mean Green return 15 swimmers and divers from last year s squad. Leading the way for this season s team are nine seniors taking part in their last year of competition. Seniors Bonnie Garcia- Meitin and Hannah Bakke look to go out with a bang. Garcia-Meitin holds nine of the top ten times in school history in the 100 and 200 backstroke, while Bakke broke the school record in the 100 breaststroke four separate times last season. Facing The Best The swimming and diving schedule is highlighted by clashes with three of last year s top 15 teams. Besides facing powerhouse SMU September Schedule/Results S. 29 Green & White Meet.. That matchup will take place in Fayetteville, Ark., as Arkansas will host Georgia and North Texas. Texas A&M - the reigning Big XII champions - will invade Denton on Oct. 27 along with Northern Arizona. The Mean Green is 0-7 against the Aggies. Fresh Faces A total of 11 newcomers, seven freshmen and four transfers, will help add depth to the North Texas program looking for a repeat of last season s success. Taryne Cantillo will bring experience and two years of eligibility to the Mean Green after transferring from Centenary where she won the team s Swimmer of the Year honor as only a freshman. Originally from Georgetown, Texas, Cantillo set the school records in the 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard butterfly, and the 100-yard backstroke. She also was part of school-record setting teams for the 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard medley relay, and 800-yard freestyle relay. Rosita Bado is another swimmer Dykstra expects to be an instant contributor in the backstroke and individual medley. Bado, from Georgetown, has already posted times in the 100 and 200 back that would rank second among current Mean Green swimmers, just behind Garcia- Meitin, who holds the record in both the 100 and 200 backstroke. Kelly Gordon was a four-year letter-winner at Fort Bend Elkins High School who was a state qualifier in the 100 fly as a sophomore. Her personal-best times in the 100 and 200 fly are both faster than the current school record. Gordon was also named to the Scholastic All- American team.
