1 t OPV1-SB5 SQUAW LAKE 010 BELMORE BAY Location and Access Claim FM 205 is located 400m east of the east end of Belmore Bay which is located on the Northeast Arm of Sturgeon Lake. The property is accessible by boat. From the boat ramp on Horizontal Bay off Hwy 599, llkm south of Savant Lake, it is an approximately 30 km trip by boat to the property. Geology On claim FM 205 the rocks are predominately fine to mediumgrained mafic flows, which trend in a northeast direction. There is a 90ft wide carbonate zone containing po, py, cp which also trends northeast. At the south west end of this zone there are two shafts sunk on quartz veins. Recommendations A bulldozer is needed to do more stripping between the shaft and the new carbonate zone. The Mac-Read Gold Prospect, Sturgeon Lake Location and Access The Mac-Read Prospect, also known as the MacdonaId-Read Prospec' is located on the north shore of King Bay near the west end of i ' Bay, (Figure 4.12). The prospect is approximately 400 ra due no: ( of the mouth of a small south-flowing creek. The Armstrong-E'r. gold prospect is located 200 m north of the same creek KIO^ Directly opposite the creek mouth on the south shore of King F are two shafts and an adit of the Shores Prospect on patents AL aid AL 368. n ^-. LL l j The Mac-Read Prospect can be accessed by boat or aircrafyt in summer. A trail leads north from the creek mouth the Ar/strong-Best Prospect and then to the Mac-Read Prospect, rough/skidder trail was cut off the Six Mile Lake forestry act*-- road/and can be travelled by all-terrain vehicles in summer - -.i winter. The Six Mile Lake road joins Highway 599 approximately km south of the Sturgeon Rapids Bridge. Exploration History Bine quartz boulders with gold have been noted by many prospect. - working in the King Bay area. In the 1930's, a small mill was - up south of King Bay to process a fan of boulders carrying gol'l quartz veins in mafic and quartz prophyry host rock. The discovery date of the Mac-Read Prospect is not knov.: Prospectors R. A. MacDonald and W.C. Read were rking the proper by Dr. T. L. Gledhill wrote a brief report on the proper in February of 1937, (Assessment Files, Resident Geologi--' Office, Sioux Lookout, File No. 52J/02SW-0028). Dr. Gledl commented on a small stripped area and nine drill holes near ' west end of the property. During the winter of 1937, De:.; Securities of Toronto financed drilling to explore the vear. depth. The drilling program gave little encouragement. A pitt and sampling program carried out in 1938 and 1939 increased 11 length of tha vein system. A section r r vein 28.7 m long w-. channel sampled at l m intervals and gave uncut gold content *-f 0.46 ounces Au per ton. Sylvanite Gold Mi. ^ optioned the property in July of 1939 and examined the exposed vein. A section 16.7 m in length had previously been channel sampled and gave 0.49 ounces An per ton over l m. Sylvanite Gold Mines Ltd. check sampled this
