3 -1- SUMMARY A program of rock sampling was carried out on the Emerson property, located 25 km west of Houston, B.C. The property was staked in 1987 after high gold values were reported by a government stream sediment survey. Previous exploration in the general area had focussed on porphyry copper mineralization. Preliminary evaluation of the claims by prospecting and geochemical sampling in 1987 and 1988 indicated several 1 areas with significant gold values.! The purpose of the 1990 program was to evaluate these areas by more detailed prospecting and rock sampling and to better appraise the geological setting of the mineralization. The program was successful in locating two qua:rtz/pyrite I i prospects containing significant precious metal values. The prospects occur along a major NNE fault structure cutting 1 intermediate to felsic volcanic rocks of the Hi3zelton Group. Further exploration is recommended on the claims, particularly in the immediate area of the new discoveries and the overburden-covered area between the showings.

4 INTRODUCTION Prospecting, rock sampling and a general evaluation of the Emerson property were carried out by Peter DeLiincey and assistant from August 15 to 23, The purpose of the exploration was to find the source of several rock and silt samples containing highly anomalous precious metal values, and to get a better handle on the geological setting of the mineralized zones. 3.0 LOCATION, ACCESS AND TOPOGRAPHY The Emerson property is located 26 km west of Houston, B.C. Access to the property is by helicopter from Houston or Smithers. Access by ATV is also possible. A new logging road is located within 5 km of the property; from here an old cat road leads to the property. The property is within the Telkwa Range. Elevations range from 1,300 m to 2,000 m. Most of the claims are situated in an alpine plateau. The lower slopes and creek valleys are covered by coniferous trees. 4.0 CLAIM STATUS Both 2-post and 4-post claims were staked by Atna crews following the government geochemical survey re:lease. Some claims were allowed to lapse and others have recently been staked. 7 HISTORY In the mid-1960's Phelps Dodge Corp. explored the general area for porphyry copper mineralization. A 19 ltm cat road was constructed to provide access to the property. In 1974 Granges carried out exploration, including 6 d:iamond drill holes, to test copper mineralization in a dior:ite stock exposed in the western portion of the area. Interest in the area was renewed with the release of a government geochemical survey in July, Several creeks draining the area showed anomalous precious metal values. Claims were staked in the area by Atna Resources, Noranda and Geostar Mining Corp. Follow-up surveys have investigated both the precious metal and base metal potential of the area. 6.0 REGIONAL GEOLOGY Geological mapping (1:50,000) of the Thautil River map sheet (93L/6) was completed in 1989 (see Fig. 8, Reference - B.C. Ministry of Mines, Geological Fieldwork 1989). The area is underlain by Jurassic volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Hazelton Group. Subaerial andesitic to rhyolitic flows and pyroclastics comprise much of the sequence. A shallow marine unit composed of sediments, including limestone, and tuffs, forms a distinctive marker bed. The sequences are intruded by diorite to granite stocks of Late Cretaceous age. Block faulting during Tertiary time has produced a basin-and-range geomorphology. Fault blocks are tilted southwest. 7.0 PROPERTY GEOLOGY The property is largely underlain by andesitic to rhyolitic flows and pyroclastics of the Telkwa Formation,. These rocks have been intruded by large granitic body centred at the northeast portion of the property. The upper contacts of the intrusion are relatively flat. The adjacent and overlying volcanics are silicified and pyritized. The volcanic and lesser sedimentary units dip moderately to the southwest. The claims are transected by three major NNE trending fault structures. These major structures are reflected by recessive topography such as the alignment of valleys, lakes and swamps (Figures 5 and 8). Mheralization appears to be spatially associated with these structures.

9 ROCK GEOCHEMISTRY Fifty rock samples were collected from areas of alteration and mineralization. Samples were sent to Acme Analytical Laboratories in Vancouver for 30 element analyses plus gold by AA. The location of samples is shown on Fig.8 and the geochemical results are presented in Appendix 1. The geological setting of the mineralized zones was noted. Significant results are discussed under Economic Geology. All rocks with PD prefixed sample numbers were taken in 1990; all other samples were taken in ECONOMIC GEOLOGY Exploration in the immediate area of the claims, during the 1960 s and ~O S, was primarily for porphyry co:pper type mineralization. A 1987 government geochemical silt survey release showed several drainages in the area had anomalously high precious metal values. Recent exploration has largely been directed at finding the source of the gold and silver anomalies. Prospecting and limited silt and soil geochemistry was carried out in 1987 and 1988 on the Emerson property. Significant precious metal values were reported in rock, silt and soil samples. The 1990 exploration program followed-up on these areas of interest. The most encouraging development was the discovery of Ridge and Jewelry Box showings along a major NNE structure. The Ridge showing is exposed on the side of a fault depression and is characterized by quartz/pyrite vein mineralization and silicification of andesitic wallrock. The exposed portion of the vein is approximately 1 meter wide. Grab samples from the vein and nearby float gave the following results: SAMPLE # SILVER GOLD PS oz/t PD-14A 2.9 ppm ppb PD-14B PD-14C 4.4 I 5640 PD-14D

10 -5- The Jewelry Box showing is located 1.2 km south of the Ridge showing, along the same structure. The showing consists of abundant angular quartz/pyrite gossanous float blocks, roughly in place. The vein material includes silicified breccias, banded quartz and pyrite and silicif:ied/pyritized hornfels. Pyrite is the most prominent sulphide, occurring as coarse crystalline disseminations, fracture fillings and bands. Chalcopyrite occurs as local concentrations. Barite? was noted in some samples. Some of the gossanous blocks are up to 1 meter wide. Grab samples gave the following results: SAMPLE # COPPER SILVER G()LD PS-618 PS-619 PS-620 PD-22 PD-22B PD-22B PD-22C PD-22D PD-22E PD-22F PD-22G PD-22H PD PPm PI ni D l ppm 10.8 It Ii oz/t : :390 ppb 'I :L 'I :L490 'I :Lo Most of the ground between the two showings and along strike is covered by overburden. Sample number PD-23 was a large composite sample of silicified and pyritized andesitic breccia, located between the two showings. This sample ran 4,920 ppb gold. Samples show anomalous bismuth values. Another area of mineralization, referred to as the Carbonate Showing, was discovered near the center of the Echo 1 claim. Attention was initially drawn to the area because of gossanous rock occurring up-slope from a bright green moss. The host rock is a basalt breccia with fragments frequently cemented by calcium carbonate. Possible crinoid stems were noted locally. Copper oxides and a unidentified grey mineral are present. The gossanous float appears to be roughly in place. Samples show high copper, zinc, silver and antimony values. The East Ridge showing is located approximately 250 m east of the Ridge showing and is of similar character. Samples PS-626 and PD-7 ran 2600 and 3020 ppb gold. The quartz/pyrite gossan is adjacent a felsite dyke.

14 -6- Sample PD-31 (4.6 ppm silver and 240 ppb gold) was taken from a zone of intense alteration and shattering on the eastern portion of the property. Local quartz-c:arbonate and pyrite mineralization is noted. The zone appears to be centered along a northeasterly trending fault structure, which may be a splay from the major NNE fault along Forgotten Creek. Some of the other anomalous sample location areas will require further exploration to determine their significance. Two silt samples near the headwaters of Forgotten Creek ran 345 and 580 ppb gold. The suspected source area is a long swampy area centred on the NNE fault along Forgotten Creek. Another silt sample with 1700 ppb gold was co1:tected from the south part of the property where much of the area is covered by overburden. Rock sample PD-10 is piece of massive barite float: no sulphides were noted. The sample ran 4,170 ppb gold. Barite is reported in the north part of the claims CONCLUSIONS Preliminary exploration of the Emerson property has been very encouraging. Anomalous precious metal values have been found in stream sediments, soil and rock samples. Follow-up prospecting and sampling has led to the discovery of significant precious metal mineralization associated with quartz/pyrite veins and silicification along major structures RECOMMENDATIONS A grid should be laid out between and including the Ridge and Jewelry Box showings. Soil samples should be collected at 10 m spacings. A VLF survey should be carried out over the grid. A back-hoe should be brought in along the o:ld cat road and the Jewelry Box and Ridge showings trenched and sampled. Shallow drilling should test the down-dip and lateral continuity of the showings and other targets developed. 6. More detailed exploration should be carried out on the property, particularly along the three NNE structures which transect the property. /
