19 USGS Alaska Mapping Initiative USGS has invested significantly in elevation, NHD, and Geographic Names in AK USGS will continue to invest significantly in AK for elevation improvements, which remains our primary investment, in addition to appropriate investments for other data categories there. USGS has invested modestly to uplift the SDMI (State Digital Mapping Initiative) orthoimagery license to enable full public access via USGS GeoPDFs. USGS intends to map AK statewide with a GeoPDF product or products.
