5 Quilting Tips Instead of using a marking pencil with a quilt stencil, I use a foam paintbrush. I dip it into loose chalk, and dab it over the stencil. It's really quick! To keep a bobbin with its matching spool of thread, insert a cotton swab through the bobbin and into the top of the spool. Even if they tip over, the bobbin stays in place. After cutting and pressing binding, roll it onto an empty cardboard tube. The binding will unroll without tangling as you attach it to the quilt. Floor tiles make the best templates. Press paper pattern onto the adhesive side of a self-stick floor tile. Cut the template out on the line with a scissors or utility knife. These templates are sturdy and can be used with a rotary cutter. Some sewing machine manufacturers advise against using canned air to blow the lint out of your machine. I use a bicycle hand pump to blow 100% natural air. Check out this free pattern at more at: They have some really cute things! 5
