Saying Goodbye to 2017 Every year I like to take the time to acknowledge the lessons of the Year I am leaving behind. Often, even when we have struggled throughout the year, there will still be memorable moments, heartfelt encounters, Successes, stumbles & newfound wisdom and Growth. I have included a letting Go ritual that you may like to do on New years Eve or on the full moon on the 2 nd of January. By asking yourself the following questions you may find that 2017 has offered you more than you realise.
Things I achieved in 2017 (This is where you write down all of your achievements, its important to remember they don t have to be massive achievements, instead focus on things you are proud of, things you did not realise you could do before you tried, or even lessons learnt. Of course, if you have more than 10 than that s just awesome)
Things I need to Let go of Moving into 2018 This is often a hard list to complete because many of us do not like to acknowledge what we have struggled with or what has not worked. Often we may wish that things could just stay the same. Sometimes when we outgrow things we feel certain sadness in letting them go. But nature teaches us that growth & change can be Beautiful. Moving into 2018 I need to let go of-
The Importance of Ritual One of the things that many of us miss out on in today s society is rituals so many of our ancestors believed in the power of acknowledging and honoring growth & change It is well documented that acknowledging growth and periods of transition such as rites of passage, celebrating milestones & acknowledging & working with the natural cycles has a really positive effect on the self. Here is a little ritual you may like to do to signify the ending of 2017, moving into the New Year. The best time for releasing rituals is the Dark moon, the night before the new moon. While the moon is missing form the sky is a powerful time of letting go, cutting cords and introspection Rituals are the physical external expression of our own inner workings. By creating & preforming our own rituals, we are acknowledging and honoring our own growth, wisdom and experiences
2017 Letting go Ritual What you will need A candle A piece of notepaper A piece of string A pen or pencil You will also need a lighter or a box of matches A heatproof surface and a heat proof bowl or cauldron About 20 minutes time, Before beginning the ritual I recommend you have nice ritual bath. If you do not have a bathtub, you could always ritually wash your hands and feet in a small bowl instead. Once you are ready, make sure you have all your tools with you and have a space in which you can preform your ritual. Please read through the instructions below so you know what you will be doing and understand the process before you begin. Ritual - 1. Take a big deep breath, as you breathe in imagine yourself breathing in the energy around you. As you breathe back out let go of any anxiety, negativity or doubts you may be holding onto. Repeat this process until you feel ready to proceed 2. Take your candle and place it on the heatproof surface. 3. Light the candle and as it begins to burn begin to think about what you wish to let go of. What is holding you back? Weighing you down? Or no longer needed? 4. Take your paper and pencil and write down the situations, energies or personality traits you wish to say goodbye to. If you have already done the previous exercises it will greatly help you with this ritual 5. Once you have written down everything you wish to let go of, roll
the paper up into a cylinder and tie it with your string. 6. Take your paper tied with string and very carefully; light the edge of it with your candle. Then drop it into a flameproof bowl. 7. While it burns imagine everything you wish to release being cleared away. You can strengthen you intention by saying what you have asked to let go of out loud to the universe 8. You will feel lighter after doing this kind of cleansing work and it is important you allow yourself to release in any way you feel drawn. Tears are okay, anger is okay, and feelings of sadness or guilt are also okay. Take note if any of these emotions rise up. 9. If you are outside you may wish to speak straight to the moon, while you allow your candle to burn down a little 10. When you are ready you can blow or extinguish your candle and pack up your ritual. I recommend you have something to eat or drink after preforming your ritual to help center and ground you.
WORKING WITH THE CYCLES OF THE MOON There are many natural cycles that we can work with to offer us insight and power. One of these natural cycles is the moon, the different phases of the moon offer very different energies, which we can utilise and work with. The dark moon is a time of letting go of cutting cords, shedding, working with the shadow self and understanding our selves in the dark belly of the night. The following night on the new moon is a time for setting intentions, welcoming in new energies, making wishes and starting projects. Over the next two weeks it waxes, growing and building in power as it moves towards fullness, which is a time of personal power, magic and strength. The full moon is the perfect time for focusing our own power, for spell casting, alchemy and of course moon gazing. Then the energy slowly recedes as we move back towards the dark moon as each night less of the moon is visible. This waning time is a time for introspection. To finish projects, to tie up lose ends and to move towards evaluation of how our monthly moon cycle has played out. Did we follow through on our intention? Did we learn new things about ourselves? What is still holding us back?
