1 Emergency and Humanitarian Action (EHA), WHO Indonesia Tornado, Serang, Banten Province, Republic of Indonesia and several parts of Indonesia HIGHLIGHTS On 29 January 2012 at PM, tornado affected Tangkurak village, Tirtayasa sub-district, Serang district, Banten province. On 26 January 2012 at AM West Indonesian Time (GMT+7), tornado hit Wonorejo sub-district, Pasuruan district, East Java province. On January 2012, tornado hit 16 sub districts in Banyumas, Central Java. On January 2012 at PM and AM West Indonesian Time (WIB = GMT+7), tornado hit 7 villages in 5 sub-districts: Mlandingan, Bungatan, Situbondo, Kapongan and Mangaran, Situbondo district, East Java province. On 24 January 2012 at AM Central Indonesian Time (GMT+6), tornado hit Tello Baru village, Panakukang sub-district, Kota Makassar and on 30 January 2012 at AM Central Indonesian Time, tornado hit Tekolabbua village, Pankajene sub-district, Pangkep district. On 23 January 2012, tornado hit 8 villages in 6 sub-districts: Petrol, Balongan, Cikedung, Jatinyuat, Pasekan and Kandanghaur, Indramayu district, West Java The number of casualties and damages reported by Center for Health Crisis MOH are 5 people died, 21 people with major injury, 55 people with minor injury, 233 IDPs, and 2,006 damaged houses. National Disaster and Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the tornado in Serang resulting death of 1 person, major injury of 1 person, and minor injury of 25 people. There are 21 severely damaged and 400 lightly damaged houses and also 2 mosques and 1 Islamic shool. National Agency for Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics/BMKG reported tropical storm Iggy affects strong wind with more than 36 km/hour speed and 4-6 meter tidal wave in Indonesian sea until 30 January In overall, BNPB reported that tornado affected by tropical storm Iggy resulting the total of 14 died people in 35 districts/municipalities Respected local health authorities have provided relief assistance. WHO is in close contact with MOH in monitoring the situation through Center for Health Crisis MOH. In case the situation warrant, WHO will provide any assistance needed. 2 Situation Report (1) Incident Site Mapping Situation Analysis National Agency for Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics/BMKG reported tropical storm Iggy affects strong wind with more than 36 km/hour speed and 4-6 meter tidal wave in Indonesian sea until 30 January In overall, BNPB reported that tornado affected by tropical storm Iggy resulting the total of 14 died people in 35 districts/municipalities including tornado in thousand islands, DKI Jakarta province which has been reported separately. 2

National Disaster and Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the tornado in Serang resulting death of 1 person, major injury of 1 person, and minor injury of 25 people. In overall, BNPB reported that tornado affected by tropical storm Iggy resulting the total of 14 died people in 35 districts/municipalities Communication, Transportation and Electricity Power Communication, electricity and transportation were not disrupted. Response Local Government Serang DHO has provided medical service in Tirtayasa village health post; supplementary nutrition for children and will provide counseling on healthy life style and sanitation. Pasuruan DHO has provided medical service. 3
4 Banyumas DHO has evacuated the victims, established health post in each village, provided medical service in Banyumas District hospital and activated the action response team and coordinated with other sectors. Situbondo DHO has conducted disaster surveillance evacuated the victims, established health post, provided medical service and coordinated among health technical unit and with other sectors South Sulawesi RCC provided 30 boxes of fortified biscuits. Indramayu DHO has conducted evacuated the victims and established health post. MOH WHO Indonesia Serang DHO, Banten PHO, Pasuruan DHO, East Java PHO, Banyumas DHO, Central Java PHO, Situbondo DHO, East Java PHO, Makasar and Pangkep DHO, South Sulawesi RCC, Indramayu DHO, West Java PHO and Center for Health Crisis MOH are monitoring the situation closely. WHO is in close contact with MOH in monitoring the situation through Health Crisis Center MOH. In case the situation warrant, WHO will provide any assistance needed. Status of International Aid So far the government has not officially requested any international aid. The local authorities, with support from central government and ministries, are trying their best to manage the situation so far.
