(1)Notes on Handling 1Any shock load caused y rough handling (such as dropping or hitting with haer) may cause a scar or dent on the raceway which will hinder smooth movement and shorten expected travel lie. Also e aware that such impact may damage the resin parts. 2Never try to disassemle the product. Doing so may cause an entry o contamination or deterioration o assemly accuracy. 3The s or the outer cylinders may move just y tilting the or the shat. Be careul not to let them all o rom the or the shat y mistake. The accuracy on the mounting surace and parallelism o the s or the shats ater assemly are important actors to optimize the perormance o the linear system. Exercise adequate care or mounting accuracy. (2)Notes on Use 1Be careul not to let dust or oreign particles enter the linear system during use. 2When using the linear system under an environment where dust or coolant may scatter, protect the system with a cover or ellows. 3When the NB linear system is used in a manner that its is ixed to the ceiling and downward load is applied to the (s) or the outer cylinder (s), i the or the outer cylinder reaks, it may all o rom the and drop to the loor. Provide additional measures or preventing dropping o the or the outer cylinder, such as a saety catch. (3)Instructions in considering the "Lie Time" o a Linear System 1When the load applied to a or an outer cylinder exceeds 0. time o the asic dynamic load rating (P > 0.C), the actual lie o the system may ecome shorter than a calculated lie time. Thereore, it is recoended to use the system with 0.C or lower. 2In the repetition o very minute stroke, where the rolling element, a steel all or a cylindrical roller, makes only less than a hal turn, early wear called retting occurs at the contact points etween the rolling elements and the raceway. There is no perect measure to avoid this, ut the lie o the system can e extended y using anti-retting grease and moving the s or the outer cylinders or the ull stroke length once in a ew thousand times o use. Anti-retting grease is availale as an option. Please select it or applications with very minute stroke length TYPES A-3 ACCURACY MEASUREMENT METHOD A- RIGIDITY AND PRELOAD A- LOAD RATING AND RATED LIFE A- MOUNTING A-7 USE AND HANDLING PRECAUTIONS A- JOINT RAILS A-13 DUST PREVENTION A-1 ANTI-CORROSION A- LUBRICATION A- FIBER SHEET A-1 REVERSE-SEAL A-17 BELLOWS A-1 SEB TYPE AD PROFILE (ANTI-DEFORMING) A-1 Miniature SEB Type STRUCTURE AND ADVANTAGES A- TYPES A-21 ACCURACY A-22 PRELOAD A-22 LOAD RATING A-23 EQUIVALENT LOAD A-23 RAIL LENGTH A-23 MOUNTING A-2 MOUNTING SCREW A-2 LUBRICATION A-2 DIMENSION TABLE A-2~ Miniature SER Type STRUCTURE AND ADVANTAGES A-2 TYPES A-3 ACCURACY A-3 PRELOAD A- RAIL LENGTH A- MOUNTING A- MOUNTING SCREW A- LUBRICATION A- DIMENSION TABLE A-~ Eng-3 A-1 SGL Type STRUCTURE AND ADVANTAGES A-0 BLOCK TYPES A-1 ACCURACY A-1 PRELOAD A-2 RAIL LENGTH A-2 MOUNTING A-2 GREASE FITTING A-3 LUBRICATION A-3 DIMENSION TABLE A-~ SGW Type STRUCTURE AND ADVANTAGES A-72 BLOCK TYPES A-73 ACCURACY A-73 PRELOAD A-7 RAIL LENGTH A-7 MOUNTING A-7 GREASE FITTING A-7 DIMENSION TABLE A-7~

2 TYPES Tale A-1 Types NB slide guides are high-precision and high-rigidity linear earings designed to utilize the motion o rolling elements. They have numerous advantageous characteristics including low riction, no stick-slip, and smooth linear motion even under high load conditions. Since they can maintain their high-eiciency and high-unctionality characteristics or an extended period o time, they meet a wide range o needs, rom general industrial to precision machinery. miniature type rolling element all cross section and contact structure retained all, 2-row, -point contact (SEBS-B type) 2-row, -point contact (SEB-A type) advantages retained all type availale with all stainless steel components 2-row, compact small, light, cost eective 2-row, compact small, light, cost eective availale in various types availale in stainless steel page P.A- P.A- cross roller (SER type) high-rigidity type all roller -row, 2-point contact (SGL type) -row, 2-point contact (SGW type) miniature roller guide cross roller, high precision availale with all stainless steel components high sel-centering characteristics high load capacity due to relatively large all elements high dust preventive control with side-seals and underseals availale in stainless steel high-moment resistant low-height design smooth motion due to large numer o eective alls high dust preventive control with side-seals and underseals P.A-2 P.A-0 P.A-72 A-2 A-3

3 ACCURACY MEASUREMENT METHOD The accuracy o slide guides is measured y ixing the to the reerence ase. The accuracy is expressed in terms o the average value at the center portion. Dimensional Tolerance and Paired Dierence The accuracy o the slide guide is otained y measuring the height H, and width W, as shown in Figure A-1. The dimensional tolerance is measured or each o the s attached to the and is expressed in terms o the deviation rom the asic dimension. The paired dierence is otained y measuring the s attached to the and is expressed in terms o the dierence etween the maximum and minimum values. Motion Accuracy The is irst ixed to the reerence ase. The motion accuracy is otained y measuring the dierence in the indicator readings when the is moved along the entire span o the. Note: Gauge head is placed on the center o the reerence surace. Figure A-1 Accuracy Measurement reerence surace H W NB mark Figure A-2 Measurement Method or Motion Accuracy reerence ase RIGIDITY AND PRELOAD The rolling elements o the slide guide deorm elastically due to the applied load. The amount o deormation depends on the type o rolling element. It is proportional to the 2/3 power or all elements. For rollers, it is proportional to the / power. In either case, the rate o deormation decreases as the applied load increases. Greater rigidity is achieved y applying a preload. A preload causes internal stress within the slide guide, resulting in some reduction in lietime. However, when the guide is used under shock or viration loading conditions, a preload will asor the load and will actually help lengthen the lie time. Because the preload causes elastic deormation o the rolling elements, it ecomes less tolerale to the installation dimensional errors. Extreme care should e exercised in machining the installation surace. Four levels o preload are availale: clearance, standard, light, and medium. This allows the user to select the appropriate level or the application. 4 LOAD RATING AND RATED LIFE Loading Direction and Load Rating A slide guide experiences load and moment, as shown in Figure A-. For each load and moment, the asic load ratings and allowale static moments are deined. Figure A- Direction o Load MOUNTING Slide guides have high load ratings in spite o their compact. They can e used in various types o machinery and other equipment in various conigurations. Figure A- shows some typical slide guide arrangements. 5 Mounting Surace and Accuracy NB slide guides are designed and aricated to achieve high accuracy ater mounting them to a machined mounting ase. One typical way is to provide a shoulder on the mounting surace and align the reerence surace o the or against the shoulder (Figure A-7). To avoid corner intererence, an undercut should e provided at the shoulder corner. Alternatively, the radius o the shoulder corner should e smaller than the radius o the slide guide / corner. The accuracy o the mounting surace aects the accuracy o the machinery or equipment along with the slide guide motion accuracy. The accuracy o the mounting surace should e equivalent to that o the slide guide motion accuracy. The speciied preload may not e achieved due to deormation o the, or example, the mounted surace is not lat (Figure A-). Careul attention should thereore e given to achieve the speciied latness. Note: Please contact NB or the straightness in case the mounting shoulder cannot e provided or the rigidity o the mounting surace is not enough. Figure A-7 Proile o Mounting Reerence Surace Figure A- Eect o Flatness gap Mounting In general, slide guides are used with 2 s in parallel. In that case, one is on the so-called reerence side and the other is on the so-called adjustale side. Applications where shock/viration and high load are involved/high accuracy is required. The eect o shock and viration on accuracy is eliminated y using side pieces such as side plates (Figure A-), tightening set screws (Figure A-11), or tapered gis (Figure A-). Figure A- Using Side Plate reerence side adjustale side Figure A-11 Using Tightening Set Screw reerence side Figure A- Using Tapered Gi reerence side adjustale side adjustale side Reerence Surace Indication Reerence suraces are provided to enale accurate and simpliied mounting. They are located on the same side, as shown in Figure A-, opposite to the NB mark. Depending on the mounting arrangement, the standard reerence surace may not ensure mounting accuracy (or example, 1 sideway or 2 s opposing, Figure A-, page A-7). In such cases, NB can provide a reerence surace on the opposite side. Please speciy the side when ordering. Figure A- Reerence Surace reerence surace reerence surace NB mark Provide an undercut in the side plate, and ix the tale and rom the side. Applications where light load and low speed are involved. Figures A-13~ show the mounting methods when high accuracy is not required or the load capacity o the slide guide is suicient due to a light load or low speed. In these cases, side pieces or reerence surace may not e required. 7 USE AND HANDLING PRECAUTIONS NB Slide Guides are accurately tuned precision components. Please pay special attention to the ollowing notes. Please install the Slide Guide as a set. It is not recoended to remove the or installation. When removal is necessary, please use a temporary (plastic duy) to prevent alls rom dropping out. To put a guide on the, as the pictures elow show, align the reerence surace and the height etween the and a temporary. It is very important to maintain the original comination o (s) and. Figure A- How to Put Guide Block on reerence surace Align the reerence surace side temporary JOINT RAILS Rails can e joined together to otain a length which exceeds the maximum length. There are two ways to do this. Place the joints at the same location or the right and let s so as to make the design and maintenance simple (Figure A-21 1). Place the joints or the right and let s at dierent locations so that the does not move over the two joints at the same time so as to minimize the eect o the joint on accuracy (Figure A-21 2). Please keep the ollowing points in mind when using joint s. To avoid dislocation at joints due to shock loading, provide a shoulder at the joint on the installation side. I a shoulder cannot e provided, make sure that any excess load does not change the position. Use the joint marks provided or installation. Tightly utt the s to e joined so that there is no gap etween them. Make sure the reerence surace side o the joint s to e aligned. Note: Joined s are availale or SGL and SGW series with standard grade, high grade, and with standard preload. For joined s on SEB series, please contact NB. Joined s are not availale or SER series. 37 SGW Type The NB slide guide SGW type is a linear motion earing utilizing the rolling motion o all elements along our rows o raceway grooves. Its low height and wide proile makes it suitale or single- applications. STRUCTURE AND ADVANTAGES BLOCK TYPES Two SGW types are availale depending on the mounting space and desired mounting method. SGW-TF type P.A-7 SGW-TE type P.A-7 The NB slide guide SGW type consists o a with our precisely machined raceway grooves and a assemly. The assemly consists o the main ody, all elements, retainers, and return caps. High Load Capacity and Long Lie The raceway grooves are machined to a radius close to that o the all elements. The larger contact area resulting in a high load capacity and a long travel lie. High Allowale Moment Its wide proile enales it to sustain high moment loads, making it suitale or single- applications. Omni-Directional Load Capacity The all elements are positioned at contact angle so that the load capacity is equal in our directions (aove, elow, right and let). Smooth Motion The large numer o eective all elements produce a smooth rolling motion. Figure A- Structure o SGW type Slide Guide Anti-Corrosion Speciication The and assemly can e treated with low temperature lack chrome treatment to increase the corrosion resistance. This treatment is standardized with the symol "LB", and suitale or use in clean room applications. Dust Prevention Side-seals are provided as standard. To improve the dust prevention characteristics, under-seals and mounting caps are also availale. Extension o Relurication Period y Fier Sheet A luricant-containing Fier Sheet incorporated in the supplies appropriate amount o luricant to the raceway grooves, which signiicantly extends the luricant replenishment interval. (reer to page A-1) ACCURACY Three accuracy grades are availale: standard grade (lank), high grade (H), and precision grade (P).
