17 GLASS PANEL INSTALLATION Stainless Steel Cnnectrs Use tw shrt pieces f 2X4 s r 4X4 s, sitting n edge f the deck between the psts, t supprt the glass panels while installing. Dr shims help with fine height adjustments. Cnnectr pins need t be aligned with hles/ ntches in the glass. Lcate crrect glass panel t be installed (all panels are labeled.) Carefully pick up panel and set int psitin with ntches in glass at the bttm. Fasten tp cnnectrs first. Place pin thrugh glass and slide remaining cnnectr half int psitin. If required, shim panel until pin is psitined hrizntally, aiding in alignment f cnnectr halves. Tighten screws enugh t hld cnnectrs tgether but nt squeeze tightly n glass. Once cmpleted, check that all cnnectrs are parallel t each ther and tighten screws cmpletely. If the cnnectr halves d nt slide easily nt installed sectins, cnfirm that the cnnectr has nt been ver tightened - this wuld cause misalignment f the tw halves. The back half f cnnectr must be cmpletely flush with the frnt half t ensure the pin is in the hles in bth halves f the cnnectr. Once the pin is perfectly aligned, cmpletely tighten screws. Lite 10 Nyln Cnnectrs Lcate crrect glass panel t be installed (all panels are labeled.) Carefully pick up panel and set int psitin abve bttm cnnectrs (ntches in glass shuld be at the bttm) and push glass dwn int cnnectr until it bttms. Take tp cnnectr half and slide it int psitin, then screw pin back in. IF pin des nt screw in easily make sure there are n alignment issues. Pssible surces f errr are: ut f plumb psts, psts nt set at crrect dimensin, deck surface nt level, cnnectrs nt lcated crrectly. 17

18 TEMPLATING FOR CUSTOM STAIR GLASS Stair glass fr InvisiRail is always custm cut and takes 3-4 weeks fr prductin. Each piece f stair glass will require a template. Please ensure accuracy as yur glass will be made t the exact size/shape f yur template. Cardbard sheets are typically prvided with rders fr templating purpses. Alternatively, yu can use hardbard (ie. Masnite r similar) r plywd fr templating. Helpful tls fr templating: Bx cutter / knife t cut cardbard OR saw t cut hardbard r plywd Firm straight edge (i.e. drywall square)... the lnger the better Pen and/r sharpie Bubble level (t ensure psts are plumb) Clamps t hld template material nt psts/cnnectrs ½ drill bit t drill ut hles in template fr cnnectr pins (if using hardbard r plywd) String line t help align the tp/bttm edge f multiple panels dwn a lng staircase D nt install t clse t risers, but g as clse t step nsing as yu can. As shwn belw, the cnnectr at left is clear f the stair nsing (white line). Psitining the pst t clse t the riser will nt allw the bttm edge f the glass t be parallel t stair nsing line. YES NO STEP 2 - Clamp r hld template material in behind cnnectrs, psts. It may be helpful t rest the bttm edge f the template material n stair nsing. Trace a line indicating the inside pst edge. Trim template t fit between psts. STEP 1 - Install psts & cnnectrs. Refer t layut drawing t cnfirm pst cnfiguratin at tp f stairs, ensuring psts are plumb and are n mre than 60 O/C (hrizntally) apart. Psts shuld be installed t allw fr (near) equal sectins f glass, r whatever cnfiguratin is mst aesthetically pleasing. Fr square psts (withut predrilled hles fr cnnectrs), install the cnnectrs in similar psitins t the psts used fr the main deck. It is alright if small changes need t be made t these psitins, as the hles & ntches in the glass will be psitined where yu indicate. STEP 3 - Using a straight edge draw a line cnnecting tps f psts. This will represent the tp edge f the glass. Next, draw a line fr the bttm edge f glass. If the bttm edge 18

19 f the template is resting n the nsing, draw a line parallel t nsing s that bttm edge f glass will sit abve stair nsing. Yu shuld ensure that the bttm edge f the glass will meet cde and nt allw a 6 diameter ball t fit thrugh the pening. STEP 4 - Trace cnnectr psitins nt template then trim tp and bttm. The back edge f the rubber pads is rughly where the edge f the glass will be. If yu wish, yu can trim the sides f the template s that the material represents the exact shape & size f the glass panel. This way the template can be installed as if it were the panel. Indicate n cardbard the tp/bttm edges f glass if nt dne s already. STEP 5 - If handrail will be installed with the glass munted handrail brackets, please indicate where thse hles fr the brackets shuld be. Refer t handrail brackets if sent with initial shipment. Typically, hles are lcated apprx. 6 dwn frm tp edge f glass. Ensure lcatin will allw fr handrail t be installed at a height that passes lcal building cde. If there are multiple stair panels dwn the staircase, please indicate where the templates are lcated n the stairs (eg. upper panel, middle panel, lwer panel, etc.) Custm glass panels will be made t the exact specificatins f the template(s), except that crners are made with a ½ radius t avid sharp edges and sme hles r ntches may be mitted frm panel. Every panel shuld have at least tw details (hle r ntch). Please ensure that templates are nt damaged, warped etc. befre being sent t InvisiRail. Try t minimize the number f bends in the template if pssible. If, fr whatever reasn, there are errrs r ptential issues with the templates prvided (i.e. severely warped, curved edges, lack f inf., etc.) InvisiRail will ntify yu and may request new templates t be sent. Please write the fllwing infrmatin n yur template/s: Stre name where initial InvisiRail rder was purchased PO number/sales rder number if applicable Date templates were made and/r sent ut Cntact inf. fr creatr f templates (name, phne number, if applicable) Panel identificatin (i.e. upper panel 1 f 2, lwer panel 2 f 2, etc.) Frm the time the templates are received by InvisiRail, it typically takes 3-4 weeks until the custm panels are cmpleted and ready t ship. Templates will be duble checked against the custm panel and sent with the glass. 19
