The Earth can be divided in a variety of ways, hemispheres being one of these ways. 4. Eurasia refers to the continents of Europe and Asia while Afro-Eurasia refers to the three continents of Africa, Europe and Asia. 5. There are many patterns that are global in scope. 12 Global Tide Patterns Figure 8r-7: Global distribution of the three tidal types. Most of the world's coastlines have semidiurnal tides. An ocean tide refers to the cyclic rise and fall of seawater. Tides are caused by slight variations in gravitational attraction between the Earth and the moon and the Sun in geometric relationship with locations on the Earth's surface.
