1 NAME: DATE: Unit 3: Lesson 12 Plant Structure: Leaves Use these words to label the picture of the simple leaf. petiole midrib veins blade stoma stem blade - the broad flat part of a leaf midrib the central rib of a leaf - it is usually continuous with the petiole. petiole - a leaf stalk; it attaches the leaf to the plant. stem - the main support of the plant. stoma - an opening in a plant's leaves where water vapor and other gases leave and enter the plant. vein - veins support the leaf and transport both water and minerals and food energy to the plant. Name: Date: Carbon Dioxide Light Energy Oxygen Water Minerals Photosynthesis is the process by which plants make food for themselves. Photo means light. Synthesis means to make. During photosynthesis, plants use light energy to convert carbon dioxide from the air and water and minerals from the soil into glucose (sugar) to feed the plant. This process releases oxygen that we need to breath. Can you label the diagram with the things a plant needs for photosynthesis?
