Elisa and Paul had 3 liquids A, B, and C and they placed them into the measuring cylinder as shown in Diagram 1. 4 3. This question is about waves. Diagram 4 shows a displacement-time graph of a wave. Diagram 4 (a) Using information from the above graph, what is the: i. Periodic time: (1) ii. 6 5. This question is about the Earth and the Universe a) Define a planet. (3) b) Jupiter is seen in the night sky shining brightly due to its massive size. Give the difference between a planet like Jupiter and a Sun like ours. (2) c) i) The mass of a rocket on Earth is 5000 kg. What is its weight on Jupiter if it has a gravitational field strength of 27 N/kg? (2) ii) The mass of the rocket on the Moon would be (smaller/ the same/ bigger). 7 6. This question is about water waves a) Some students are in the lab studying water waves. The instrument that they use is called a tank. To slow down the motion of the waves and view the effects being studied clearly they use a (2) b) Refraction effects were set up in the above apparatus. Complete diagrams 6 and 7 to show how water passes in shallow section of the ripple tank. 9 Section B Each question carries 15 marks. Answer all questions. 8.This question is about sound a) Evelyn is in a large field with her brother Mark. They decide to do an experiment to find the speed of sound. In three steps, outline a simple way of how they can do this. (3) b) The teenagers have their dog with them which they are training using a dog whistle. Mark complains that the whistle does not work as no sound is heard on blowing it. i) What is the range of audible frequencies for humans? (2) ii) What type of sound is emitted by the whistle? (2) iii) As the teenagers move near a high wall, they note that the dog s barking echoes after 5s. If the speed of sound is 330 m/s, how far away is the wall?
