I was deported from Je rse y, Channel Isla n d s to ILAG- V l l l, E astern Cermany(Kreuzburg) along w th approx. 20 o th ers. There were a lo t more deported a t th e tm e, b u t they were deported to A u stra, to a B r ts h Interm ent Camp. Lookng back now, I most c e rta n ly don* t fe e l I was n a B rts h Internm ent Camp as our only means o f re c re a to n was spent w thng 120 sq.y d s. o f ground, overlooked a t a l l tm es by th re e machne guns. Our food c o n sste d o f one b lack co ffee each mornng, one lo a f betw een tw elve men, ç bowl of sweded fo r fv e days o f th e week and p o ta to e s on th e o th er two, whch we ncknamed b rd s e e d *. I f t hadn*t been fo r the red cro ss p a rc e ls we would most c e r ta n ly have sta rv e d to death. T The m ental s u ffe rn g I went through th en and sn ce, was nothhg compared w th th e s u ffe rn g I l e f t behnd. Both my p a ren ts were dead so I was th e breadw nner, fo r th ree young b ro th e rs and a s s t e r. A fte r I was d ep o rted my s s te r t r e d to com tt s u c d e, and was ad m tted to a mental home. Through t h s щу th re e young b ro th e r s were l e f t on th e r own so they had to be p u t n an orphanage. A fter the n je c to n we a l l passed out n a fa n t and changed oolour to a Blue and Jellow. I hope th s nform aton w ll be u se fu l to you. On January 2 1 st. o r 23rd. 1945, when we, evaoouated the oamp through two Russan Spearheads, we were loaded n to o a ttle wagons fo r an 80 m le journey to a l t t l e Sde stato n named BR0CK0U, 12 m les from Bresau. We were there tran sferred to a tr a n w thout h eat, 12 n a compartment and ssued w th, one German lo a f to l a s t fo r a l l the journey, whch took twelve days n to A u stra, to a town calle d S p ttal# Durng the l a s t 30 days of my mprsonment we had no ra to n s ssu ed to us a t a l l, as even the German populaton were starvng them selves I f t hadn t been fo r an ad drop from the B rts h A r Force we mght have ended up the same as the Amercan camp next to us- bombed by th e r own men.
