4 SCOUTING REPORT Courtney Deifel, the fourth head coach in Arkansas history, is in her third season in Fayetteville, joining the Razorbacks after heading up the program at Maryland for one year. In her three seasons, Deifel has accumulated a overall record, including in SEC play. last season, Deifel saw her Razorbacks win 31 games, a 21-game improvement from the previous season, on the way to earning a birth in the NCAA Tournament. In her lone season at Maryland, Deifel led the Terps to a record. The Razorbacks are currently on the season, splitting their 18 SEC games at 9-9. Arkansas is coming off of a 2-1 series defeat to Auburn on the road. The Razorbacks have been incredibly tough when playing on their home field, racking up a 21-2 record at Bogle Stadium. Offensively, the Razorbacks bat.284 as a team, scoring 5.24 runs per game. Arkansas s calling card in 2018 has been power, with the Razorbacks ranking second in the conference and 23rd in the nation with 1.04 home runs per game, 47 in total. Additionally, the Hogs have slugged 54 doubles and 10 triples for 111 total extrabase hits. Freshman outfielder Hannah McEwen leads the team with a.350 average, leading the team in both RBIs and runs with 43 and 36, respectively, posting eight homers and seven doubles. Senior infielder Autumn Buczek is next in line at.327, tallying five doubles and four triples on the way to 27 runs and 13 RBIs. Junior Infielder Ashley Diaz rounds out the everyday starters batting over.300 at.310, hitting six long balls as well as five doubles, driving in 28 runs and scoring 16 more. Junior infielder Katie Warrick has made 27 starts on the year and has taken full advantage, crushing seven homers, second most on the team. The Razorbacks boast one of the SEC s better 1-2 combinations in the circle in freshman Mary Haff and sophomore Autumn Storms. Haff ranks second in the league with 21 wins and 12 shutouts, posting a 1.37 ERA in innings. The freshman has racked up 194 strikeouts on the year, compared to just 24 walks, allowing a.142 average to opposing batters. Storms has tossed innings for Arkansas, earning a 12-7 record with a 2.08 ERA. Storms holds a 4-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio, fanning 100 batters on the year. Arkansas led nearly the entire contest after a third inning grand slam, and took what looked to be a convincing four-run lead to the final frame, but the Rebels had other plans. Kylan Becker was the one who got it started and ended it all, as she led off the seventh with a walk. Sarah Van Schaik then punched her lone hit of the day to left field off a chopper setting up two on with nobody out. After Bry Castro pinch ran at first for her, Grayce Majam reached safely after a roller slipped under the glove of the shortstop that scored Paige McKinney. Haley Culley then pinch ran for Majam, before Hailey Lunderman grounded out to the pitcher pushing runners to second and third. Miranda Strother plated the second run of the inning LAST GAMES VS. ARKANSAS when she drove a single to left scoring Culley, before Ashton Lampton also reached safely on a throwing error from the Razorbacks shortstop. Courtney Syrett was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and Dakota Matiko followed with a walk to tie the contest at 5-5. That setup Becker s second plate appearance of the inning, and she was patient enough drawing the full count walk that scored Lampton to secure the sweep for the Rebels. Lunderman, Strother, Lampton, Matiko, Van Schaik and Majam tallied the hits for Ole Miss, while Becker led the way with a career-high three walks. Matiko finished with a team-best two RBI, as Strother and Becker were credited with one RBI apiece. After Ole Miss starter Kayla Landwehrmier went 6.2 innings in the circle with five runs allowed off seven hits, Elisha Jahnke picked up her ninth win of 2016 in just a third of an inning pitched after the Rebels last inning comeback. 5 AT ARKANSAS 5 LEE S NAME CALLED ON DRAFT NIGHT There are few experiences in an athlete s career as exhilarating as hearing your name be called on draft day. Earlier this week, Ole Miss pitcher Kaitlin Lee was able to live out this dream, being selected in the 2018 National Pro Fastpitch Draft by the Aussie Spirit. Lee was the first selection of the fourth round, becoming the second Rebel in program-history to be selected into the NPF, joining Rebel great RT Cantillo, who was the final selection of the 2014 draft. Lee was one of nine players from the SEC to be selected in the draft and one of 13 pitchers. RECENT HISTORY FAVORING THE REBS Early on in the series history, Arkansas dominated Ole Miss, winning 18 of the first 20 meetings. However, the worm has turned as of late as the Rebels have gotten on a good run against the Razorbacks to close the alltime record to a narrow lead for Arkansas. Ole Miss is currently on a six-game winning streak over the Razorbacks, winning 12 of the last 14 matchups. The last time the Rebels lost of Arkansas in Fayetteville, few if any of the current players for either team were even in high school, with the Razorbacks defeating Ole Miss 9-0 in A MIDWEEK TO REMEMBER Ole Miss swept its three midweek non-conference games this past week, defeating Alcorn State and UT Martin in convincing fashion, outscoring the Lady Braves and Skyhawks Ole Miss got the week started with a doubleheader sweep over Alcorn State, crushing the Lady Braves 14-0 in five innings in the first game before setting aside their in-state neighbors 8-1 in the night cap. In Wednesday s game against UT Martin, Ole Miss broke out the boom sticks. Entering the game with just 17 home runs on the season, the Rebels broke the program-record with five big flies against the Skyhawks. Falling behind 3-0 early, Ole Miss plated four in their half of the opening frame to turn the tide, including Brittany Finney, Alex Schneider and Abbey Latham hitting back-to-back-to-back home runs for the first time in Ole Miss history. Latham would go deep again in the fifth to become the second Rebel in 2018 with multiple homers in the same game as Ole Miss registered 17 total hits, its most since setting the school-record with 21 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in COX ON FIRE Over the last seven games, nobody in the Ole Miss lineup has been as dangerous as Elantra Cox. Cox is riding a team-high seven game hit-streak, reaching base in 16-consecutive contests. The speedy outfielder is batting.593 during those seven games from the leadoff spot, scoring 13 runs, driving in five more and stealing nine bases. Cox tormented Ole Miss opponents during the midweek, scoring three times in each of the three games. FINNEY RAINING DOWN HITS IN APRIL After struggling through the first half of the season, junior Brittany Finney has become one of Ole Miss most dangerous bats in the lineup. Starting 16 games, Finney is batting.327 during the month with a pair of doubles, two home runs, nine RBIs and four runs. The Wichita, Kansas native has also shown a tremendous eye, drawing seven walks for a.410 on-base percentage. Finney has also made a pair of starts in the circle during April, throwing 10 innings of shutout ball with just seven hits allowed and 12 strikeouts, including a career-high eight against Belmont. BORGEN S BIG BREAK? Over her last four appearances, freshman Anna Borgen has been nothing short of sensational. The lefty hurler has thrown 8.1 innings out of the bullpen in those contests, surrendering just a single base runner via a walk. Borgen completed the final two games against ULM, going six up and six down before earning the save with the final out in the opener at UTEP. The freshman then shut down a Miner side in the second game that had left eight players on base in the first three innings and retired all 12 batters she faced. Finally, Borgen pitched the final two frames in the night cap against Alcorn State, tossing two perfect frames with a pair of strikeouts. Borgen has retired each of the last 19 batters she has faced. 6 COMING THROUGH IN A PINCH It s said that one of the hardest tasks in sports is pinch hitting, coming off the bench cold and attempting to hit a round ball with a round bat. When called upon to come off the bench and swing her stick, senior Alex Schneider has been extremely proficient in Schneider has been inserted as a pinch hitter six times on the season, registering a hit in four of those scenarios for a.667 average. BECK S BAT HEATS UP While the majority of the Ole Miss offense struggled in the series against Mississippi State, Kylan Becker continuously produced at the plate against the Bulldogs. The Miami native hit safely in three of her five official at-bats, while also drawing four walks for a.778 on-base percentage. Even Becker s two outs during the series were productive as both came on sacrifice bunts. The junior scored a pair of runs in the affair and was successful both times when attempting to steal. SWIPER KEEPS ON SWIPING During her four-year career at Ole Miss, Elantra Cox has cemented herself as the greatest base stealer the school has ever seen. With her 20th steal in the second game at UTEP this past weekend, Cox became the first player in program history to ever swipe at least 20 bags in four difference campaigns. In fact, no player had ever one it more than twice before the Henderson, Tennessee native stepped on campus. Each of Cox s base stealing seasons has ranked in the top-10 in the record book, including 30 during her freshman year to rank third. Cox entered the season tied for the Ole Miss record in stolen bases and now sits 25 steals ahead of the next closest Rebel. LATE INNING MAGIC Kylan Becker and Kaylee Horton have both had solid seasons at the plate but the pair of slappers have been even more impressive with two outs in an inning. In that scenario, Becker is batting.467 (14-for-30), while Horton is hitting at a clip of.438 (14-of-32). As a team, 72 of Ole Miss 179 total RBIs have come with two down in the frame. DINGERS = DUBS While power hitting may not be a calling card for Ole Miss this season, with the Rebels registering 22 home runs on the season, when the Rebs do go long it usually leads to a victory. Ole Miss is 13-1 this season when posting at least one home run. In the lone loss, Ole Miss battled back from down 8-1 at Texas A&M and brought the winning run to the plate in the seventh inning before ultimately falling 8-6. CLUTCH AUDDY In her first season in Oxford, UCF transfer catcher Autumn Gillespie has proven that she s got what it takes to come through when her team needs it the most. While batting.288 overall, Gillespie s average spikes to.354 with runners in scoring position. Possibly even more impressive, the Redlands, California native has cashed in on 9-of-14 RBI opportunities with a runner at third and less than two outs, including 7-of-9 in conference play. Cox, who leads the Rebels in scoring this season with 27 runs, set the single season school-record in 2017 with 51 trips across the plate. The senior capped her big night in the sixth inning with a 2-run single, driving in the winning run for Ole Miss. PLAYING FROM AHEAD It has become abundantly clear that a quick start is important for Ole Miss. The Rebels are 23-6 this season when scoring first and are 5-12 when playing from behind. 7 OLE MISS BURIES UTEP Ole Miss spent its bye week from SEC play on the road in El Paso, taking a pair of games from the Miners on their home field. The Rebs took game one by a score of 8-4 before earning a 7-1 victory in the finale on Saturday. Ole Miss batted.351 as a team against UTEP, led by Brittany Finney at.571 and Elantra Cox at.500. Of the Rebels 14 runs scored, 11 came with two outs on the board. While it wasn t the cleanest of series for the Ole Miss pitching staff, the Rebels were able to work around the majority of the hits, stranding 19 Miners on base over the two games. REBELS AND TIGERS MAKE SEC HISTORY WITH MARATHON CONTEST Ole Miss and LSU played deep into the night in Friday s series opener, tying the record for the longest game in Southeastern Conference history at 19 innings. Kaitlin Lee and Tiger pitcher Ally Walljasper combined for one of the most epic pitching duels in NCAA history, with both going the distance on a windy night in Baton Rouge. The numbers from the 2-1 LSU win are pretty staggering. Over the course of her school-record 18.2 innings, Lee threw 256 pitches, while Walljasper tossed 237 of her own. Of those 493 pitches, only 15 of them went for a hit. The Rebels were hitless in 17 opportunities with runners on, while Lee held the Tigers to just 3-for-21 in the same situation. Despite the loss, it will go down as a game no one involved will ever forget. VENGEANCE SERVED AGAINST SOUTHERN MISS After losing to Southern Miss 5-2 in the Ole Miss Classic eariler in the year in Oxford, Ole Miss was able to get revenge against the Golden Eagles, topping USM 5-1 in Hattiesburg. The Rebels got a pair of RBIs each from Brittany Finney & Jessica Puk, the first collegiate runs batted in for the young freshman, while Kylan Becker went 2-for-4 at the dish. Freshman Ava Tillmann made the start and posted the second complete-game of her career, surrendering one run on four hits and striking out five. ROTH S BLAST CARRIES REBS OVER AUBURN Ole Miss lost the first two games of the series but was able to get some revenge over Auburn in the final game of the weekend series in Oxford. The Rebels took a 2-0 lead before the Tigers scored an earned run in the sixth and an unearned run in the seventh to force the game into extra innings. After Kaitlin Lee shut down Auburn in the eighth, however, Amanda Roth finished things off in the home half with a line drive deep fly that just stayed inside the left field foul pole for the walk-off win. It was the second walk-off dinger of the season for Ole Miss, following Alex Schneider s two-run bomb extras during the first week of the season against Lamar. TILLMANN CAPITALIZES ON OPPORTUNITY Entering the final game of Ole Miss series against then-no. 17 South Carolina, freshman Ava Tillmann had never gone longer that two innings or thrown more than 28 pitches in an outing this season. All the native Georgian did during her first-ever start was toss all seven innings, holding a dangerous Gamecock lineup to three hits and striking out six to become the first Rebel to pitch a complete-game shutout in her first start since Kaitlin Lee against Loyola Marymount last season. Over the entire series, Tillmann pitched nine frames, facing just five batters over the minimum and shutting out Carolina completely. Almost more impressively, only one ball left the infield all weekend. BLASTING BAMA After suffering a run-rule defeat to the Crimson Tide in the game before, Ole Miss let out some frustration in Saturday s affair against Alabama. The Rebels jumped all over the Tide, scoring five runs in the first inning to take command early. In the end, Alabama was narrowly able to avoid the run-rule themselves but all that did was prolong the inevitable as the Rebels topped the Crimson Tide It was just the second win all-time in Tuscaloosa for Ole Miss, while the 10 runs scored were the most the Rebels have ever scored against Alabama. REBELS TRAMPLE LADY LIONS Ole Miss had little trouble in its midweek clash with the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions. Ole Miss scored two runs in the first to get going early and ran the momentum to an 8-0 thumping in six innings. In her return to the Rebel lineup, Celeste Wood went 3-for-4, while Kylan Becker was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish. Elantra Cox scored three runs in the contest, while Autumn Gillespie drove in three runs for the third time this season. In the circle, Kaitlin Lee took a perfect game into the fifth before allowing a soft-liner for a single, the only hit she allowed in her five innings of work. REBS GO 3-1 AT OLE MISS CLASSIC After the Red & Blue Classic was cancelled the previous week, the Rebels were finally able to host a home tournament with the Ole Miss Classic. The Rebels went 3-1 at the classic, defeating UT Martin, Saint Louis and Chattanooga before falling in the event s final game to Southern Miss. The Rebels scored 25 runs over the three days, surrendering just 10. 8 NEW HITS QUEEN With a bunt single to the pitcher in the fourth inning of Ole Miss 4-2 come-from-behind victory over Murray State, Elantra Cox became the Rebels all-time leader in career hits with 224 base knocks. The infield single ended up providing a spark that Ole Miss was in need of, with the Rebels down 2-0 with the first nine batters of the game being retired in order. Ole Miss eventually tied the game 2-2 in the fourth and went on to complete the comeback with two more runs in the sixth. The speedy outfielder is one of the most dangerous offensive threats not only in the SEC but across the country, having led the NCAA in hits with 93 a year ago. REBELS PROVE THEY BELONG IN PUERTO VALLARTA Despite a disappointing performance in the 6-0 loss to Houston, Ole Miss showed it belongs amongst the nation s top teams with its play in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. The Rebels opened with a dominating 8-2 win over Texas and earned their first run-rule victory of the season at 9-1 over Rutgers in six frames. Ole Miss was pitted against No. 3 in the main event of the challenge Saturday night and didn t disappoint, coming out on top in a pitcher s duel for the ages between Kaitlin Lee and the Ducks Megan Kleist. Lee kept the mighty Oregon offense off the board all night, setting up Elantra Cox RBI single to plate Paige McKinney in the ninth. C.O.M.P.E.T.E Ole Miss enters the 2018 season with a new mantra, C.O.M.P.E.T.E. The acronym stands for commitment, out work, mental toughness, passion, effort, trust the process, end in OKC. KAITLIN LEE NAMED SEC PITCHER OF THE WEEK Following 13-straight scoreless innings at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, leading to being selected as MVP of the event, Kaitlin Lee was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week for Week Two. Perhaps surprisingly, it was the first pitcher of the week nod for the 2017 SEC Tournament MVP. Lee was about as good as it gets south of the border. She started off Ole Miss stay in Puerto Vallarta with four scoreless innings against Texas, scattering four hits and ultimately garnering the win as the Rebels earned an 8-2 victory. However, the real headliner came in the tournament finale in front of a packed house against No. 3 Oregon. Facing possibly the top offense in all of college softball, Lee was unflappable, tossing nine scorless frames and striking out five as the Rebels pulled the upset in extras. Even with a runner placed immediately in scoring position at second base for the two extra inning stranzas, the vaunted Oregon offense could do nothing to crack the code on the righty from Gulfport. For her efforts, Lee was also named the College Sports Madness and D1SoftballNews National Pitcher of the Week. THE LAST TIME... Ole Miss Scored 15+ runs in a game... A year ago, the league s head coaches picked the Rebels 10th in the poll, before they went on to finish eighth with a record and won the program s first-ever SEC Tournament Title. In each of the three seasons of the Mike Smith era, Ole Miss has outperformed its projection in the conference preseason poll. BECKER TO REPRESENT THE STARS & STRIPES In early January, Rebel outfielder Kylan Becker was selected to one of two USA Softball national teams following a selection trial in Clearwater, Florida. The junior is one of 17 players that will represtent the United States at the 2018 USA vs. Japan All-Star Series in Japan in The team will also compete in the 2018 World Cup of Softball. Becker is the first player in program history to be selected to the US National Team. REBEL DUO NAMED PRESEASON ALL-SEC Making up one-third of the outfield selections, Ole Miss Kylan Becker and Elantra Cox were tabbed to the Preseason All-SEC team, becoming the first Rebel duo to receive the distinction. Of the 17 total honorees, Ole Miss was tied for the second most in the league with two selections, matching Auburn, Georgia and Texas A&M. BECKER, COX TABBED TO USA SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR TOP-50 WATCH LIST Continuing to collect a myriad of preseason honors after stellar 2017 seasons, Kylan Becker and Elantra Cox were both named to USA Softball s Collegiate Player of the Year Top-50 Watch List, becoming the first Rebels to make the list since Lauren Grill in Ole Miss is the only school with multiple outfielders to make the watch list. The Top-25 finalists for the award will be announced April 25. ERROR-FREE PLAY Through two-plus seasons, Kylan Becker has been the epitome of steady defensively in the outfield. The Miami, Florida native has never committed an error in 150 chances through her first two-plus seasons in Oxford. To this point, Becker has kept up her consistent play while adjusting to a new position, sliding from right field to center to start the 2018 campaign. No player in program-history has ever finished her career with a perfect fielding percentage in at least 100 chances. The current roster in general has been rocksteady defensively, with three players, (Becker, Alex Schneider, and Brittany Finney) ranking in the top-10 all-time in career fielding percentage. COX & BECKER TABBED ALL-AMERICA BY COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS Seeming to receive a new national award on a weekly basis, Kylan Becker and Elantra Cox were again recognized for their tremendous 2017 seasons as well as the potential for great 2018 campaigns when the outfield pair was selected to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-America teams. Becker was placed on the second team, while Cox landed on the fourth team to mark the second-straight year the senior was named All-America by College Sports Madness. Of the 48 players selected, 19 hail from an SEC school. #REBELNATION GROWING BY THE DAY After nearly doubling the total attendance record in 2016, the Rebel faithful upped the ante last season and continued to pack the stands at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. See below for notable facts and figures on Ole Miss attendance numbers in Shattered the school record for total attendance for the second-consecutive year (20,499 up from 13,506). After finishing 27th in the NCAA in accumulative attendance in 2016, climbed up five spots to No. 22 in 2017 despite having the smallest capacity of any school in the top-27. five of the top-10 single-game crowds in program history came in Top-three crowds all came during NCAA Oxford Regional (1,709 vs. North Carolina (5/21); 1,677 vs. Southern Illinois (5/19); 1,539 vs. Arizona State (5/20). The percentage increase of total attendance from was 52 percent. ON DECK After completing this weekend s series, Ole Miss will return home for four games at the Ole Miss Softball Complex to conclude the regular season. The Rebs will first take on Alabama State on May 2 to wrap up non-conference play before welcoming Georgia to Oxford for a three-game series during the final week of SEC play.

Behind his leadership, the Rebels have quickly become a respectable, national contender on many levels. In three seasons his teams have tied the school wins record, then broken it, then reset it a year later in Ole Miss had only two winning seasons in 18 years prior to Smith s arrival, but fast forward three years, and the list of accolades have already piled up. Two NCAA Tournament appearances, including an NCAA Super Regional run in 2017, the 2017 SEC Tournament Title, and 114 total wins are just to name a few. The resurgence began back on May 29, 2014 when Smith was announced as the fifth head coach of the program. Since, the record books have been rewritten and the Rebels have enjoyed many firsts both on and off the diamond. The 2017 edition, with many of the same players from 2016 s team, didn t settle for just a turnaround. They wanted more, and got more. Ole Miss put together a 43-win season, topping the 2016 wins record by two, and won seven of its final 12 SEC contests to rebound from an 0-6 start. After a 10thplace pick in the SEC Preseason Poll, the Rebels rallied to finish eighth and earn the No. 8 seed in the SEC Tournament. But, the seeding didn t faze them, as they went on to top Mississippi State, shock No. 1 Florida, top No. 15 Alabama for the third time, and eventually beat No. 21 LSU for the fourth time to claim the school s first-ever SEC Tournament title. That feat earned them the No. 12 national seed in the NCAA Tournament to host the first-ever NCAA Regional in Oxford. After a clean sweep there, Smith s Rebels headed west to take on No. 5 UCLA, falling in two one-run games to cap yet another historic season. For the second-straight year, three of Smith s players earned NFCA All-South Region honors, as Elantra Cox picked up First Team accolades for the second consecutive year. Kylan Becker and Kaitlin Lee were named Third Team selections. Becker, a rising star in the outfield, became the school s first ever All-SEC First Team selection, while Lee picked up Second Team All-SEC honors. Freshman Morgan Bruce became the school s first ever pitcher to earn All-Freshman Team honors. To mirror the team s success and breaking of records, the fans again did their part resetting the top-10 list of largest home crowds. The three NCAA Regional crowds alone all rank on the single-game attendance list, as 1,709 saw the Rebels take down North Carolina in the regional final on Sunday. 1,677 witnessed Friday s opening day, and 1,539 braved out a rain delay for a three-day total of 4,925, which would better the series attendance record by nearly 2,000. Smith and his staff earned one of top coaching awards in college softball, being named the NFCA Regional Staff of the Year for the South Region, also a first-time honor in school history. The 2016 edition of the Ole Miss Softball team won 41 games en route to the program s first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. The road there was peppered with highlights as well, as the Rebels tied the school record for SEC wins at 11 and advanced to the SEC Tournament for the fifth time after being picked 12th in the preseason poll. But, they didn t just qualify for the tournament. This time, the Rebels came up a winner as the program claimed its first ever SEC Tournament win thanks to a 4-2 victory over No. 15 Georgia on May 11. Long before Ole Miss deep run in the postseason was a regular season that started well, and featured many team and individual high points along the way. Smith s group started out 8-2, the first team to do so, before going on a school record 12-game win streak from Feb. 24 to March 9. The Rebels also put together a 15-game non-conference win streak, which was also a school record. Through the first 23 games of the campaign, Ole Miss had only lost three times, the fastest start in program history for the diamond Rebs. Then 28 games in, the Rebels win total already topped nine of the previous season s win totals in the 20-year history of the program, still with the last half of the season left to play. Along the way, Smith earned his 800th career win as a head coach in a midweek victory over Central Arkansas on March 15. His squad debuted in the crucial NCAA RPI at No. 29, and eventually rose to 27th where they finished, also highest in school history. Smith s squad snapped multiple streaks to longtime SEC powerhouses, including defeating Georgia for the first time in 13 years, as well as snapping a seven year skid to Tennessee to cap the miraculous regular season that ended at overall and in league action. In NCAA Regional action, the Rebels were victorious in game one for their first ever NCAA Tournament win in their first try, and went on to top Wichita State as well. All season, thanks to the team s success under Smith, record-breaking crowds showed up at the Ole Miss Softball Complex en route to a recordbreaking year for attendance. The season total attendance of 13,506 across 29 home contests shattered the previous record by 6,000-plus, and seven of the top ten crowds in program history all came in Seven of the Rebels final nine SEC games at home resulted in record crowds, including a program best 1,410 against No. 9 Tennessee on May 7. On the field, the team finished the historic campaign with 11 wins against top- 50 RPI squads, six of which came away from home, and achieved its highest RPI in recorded history of No. 27. Of the 22 losses, 15 came against top-25 RPI teams, and the Rebels in some way appeared in the top-25 national polls nearly all season long, finishing No. 24 in the final ESPN.com/USA Today Poll for the first time in school history. Smith coached three Rebels to NFCA All-Region honors, including sophomore outfielder Elantra Cox (First Team), freshman shortstop Hailey Lunderman (Second Team), and senior pitcher Madi Osias (Third Team). Lunderman was also a Top-10 Finalist for the Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Award, and earned All-Freshman SEC honors following her stellar season. Thanks to the team s best season to date, Smith was awarded a contract extension on June 7, ensuring he and Ole Miss commitment to the softball program for the long term future. In Smith s first season as a Rebel, Smith came up aces, tying the then school record for wins in a season and putting an offense on the field that rewrote the record books. The Rebels set every offensive record for a season, including batting average, runs scored, RBI, home runs, triples, walks, steals and both on base percentage and slugging percentage. Ole Miss also tied the school record for doubles in his first season. Under his direction in year one, the Rebels advanced to the SEC Tournament for only the fourth time in school history and the first time since the 2008 season. The 30-wins tied the mark for wins in a year set in 2005 and gave Smith a winning record in his first year. Ole Miss also doubled its win total in Southeastern Conference play, tallying six wins which equaled the total number of conference wins in the previous two seasons combined. He also coached outfielder Elantra Cox to Freshman All-SEC honors as she finished the regular season fourth in steals and seventh in the career record books with 30 in her debut campaign. AT ARKANSAS 11 Smith came to Ole Miss after he led the McNeese State softball program to three-straight 30-plus win seasons in his three years with the Cowgirls. He led McNeese State to back-to-back Southland Conference regular season championships in 2013 and 2014, its first since 1994, and was named the Southland Conference Coach of the Year both seasons. The Cowgirls went during the regular season in 2014, a school record for wins in a season, and posted a 3-1 record against Southeastern Conference opponents Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M. The Cowgirls finished the season with an RPI ranking of No. 46 and won the Southland Conference regular season title by 4.5 games with a 20-6 record. In addition to Smith being named SLC Coach of the Year in 2014, the Cowgirls also had the conference s player of the year, hitter of the year and pitcher of the year. In all, the Cowgirls had nine players named to either the SLC first, second, third or honorable mention teams. Under Smith s tutelage, the Cowgirls had two players named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-South Region team in outfielder Alanna DiVittorio and pitcher Jamie Allred. DiVittorio, the Southland Conference player and hitter of the year, was the first player in program history to earn first team all-region honors. As a senior in 2014, DiVittorio broke a combined nine school and conference records. Allred, the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year, earned second team all-region honors. She finished 2014 with a school-record 27 wins, as well as 10 shutouts. Both players earned first team All-SLC honors this season and were each Capital One Academic All-District selections. DiVittorio was also named to the Capital One Academic All-America team, becoming just the second player in program history to earn the distinction. In 2013, his second season with McNeese State, Smith had five players named to the All-SLC team and four named to the All-SLC Academic Team. On the field, the Cowgirls tied a then-program record with 38 wins, going In his first season with McNeese State in 2012, Smith led the Cowgirls to a 3-1 win over Arizona State, the defending national champions and preseason No. 1 team in the country at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona. McNeese State went on to go that season. Prior to McNeese State, Smith coached for eight seasons at California Baptist where he won the NAIA National Championship in 2009, and finished in the top-six in the country all eight years, including seven years finishing inside the top-four. The Lancers won their conference championship and advanced to the NAIA World Series all eight years, and won 60 or more games in each of Smith s final four seasons, concluding with a school-record 66 wins in Smith was the interim head coach at UC Riverside prior to his time at California Baptist, and in the four years prior to that he served as head coach at Biola, where he won one league title, had a 50-win season and a 10th-place finish at the NAIA World Series. In 2011, he served as the head coach of the USA team that played in the Prague International Softball Championships. A graduate of The Master s College in Santa Clarita, California, Smith was a two-time all-district pitcher on the college baseball team and went on to play in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, reaching the Class AA level. He also played for a number of independent league teams from 1994 to Smith was a Western Baseball League Pitcher of the Year with the Mission Viejo (Calif.) team in both 1997 and 1998, and in 2000 was the MVP of the WBL championship series with the St. George team. Smith also served as a pitching coach for the Biola baseball team from , and was a teacher and coach at Heritage Christian School in Anaheim, California, from , where he was head coach for baseball and boys and girls basketball teams, an assistant coach in football and an assistant athletic director.
