This is Alabama s fourth trip to the WCWS in the last five years, including a national championship in 2012 and a runner-up finish in Trailing 3-1 in the sixth inning of game three vs. Oklahoma, Marisa Runyon stepped to the plate with the bases loaded. Hitless over previous 13 at-bats, she unloaded on the first pitch and launched a go-ahead grand slam into right field to put the Tide ahead 5-3, which proved final. In a pitcher s duel between two of the top three finalists for the NFCA Freshman of the Year, it was Alabama s Alexis Osorio that edged out Oklahoma s Paige Parker. Osorio ended the weekend with a 2.07 ERA and 17 strikeouts over 20.1 innings pitched against one of the nation s top offenses. So far in the NCAA Tournament, Osorio is 4-1 with a 1.30 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 32.1 innings. Junior Haylie McCleney has seen a power surge in the NCAA Tournament, as five of her six hits in the postseason have been home runs, with her other hit being a double. This gives her a postseason slugging percentage of and comes after hitting just three home runs during the entire regular season. If it holds, her.596 on-base percentage this season would be a new school record. Freshman Demi Turner leads the team with eight hits so far in the NCAA Tournament, including two doubles, while senior Chaunsey Bell sports a team-leading.467 batting average (7-15) including a triple and a home run. Teams that win game one go on to win the series 84 percent of the time. Oklahoma was held hitless through the first five innings in both games one and two. No other team had held them hitless past the third inning in any game this season. The Sooners entered the weekend leading the nation in on-base percentage (.482), runs per game (8.71) and slugging percentage (.673). Oklahoma only scored eight runs over the entire weekend and were held to a.286 on-base percentage and.319 slugging percentage. The sellout crowd of 3,940 on Saturday marked the second sellout crowd of the season for Alabama, who closed out the home season with 90,021 fans over 32 games at Rhoads Stadium this year (2,813 per game). ALABAMA IN THE NCAA TOURANMENT Alabama is making its 17th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, qualifying every year since Alabama is one of just eight teams that own an active NCAA Tournament appearance streak of at least 17 years: - Arizona: 29 - Oklahoma, Washington: 22 - Michigan: 20 - Alabama, UCLA, Louisiana-Lafayette, Notre Dame: 17 Alabama has hosted an NCAA Regional round 11 straight years ( ), winning all of them. Alabama is the only school in the country to play in every Super Regional round since the round was created in This year was the eighth Super Regional the Tide has hosted, winning seven of them. This is the 10th Women s College World Series appearance for Alabama, with four of those coming in the last five years including a national title in 2012 and a runner-up finish in RUNYON TIES SINGLE SEASON RBI RECORD With a scorching second half of the year, Alabama sophomore Marisa Runyon has put herself within reach of the single-season RBI record, originally set by Charlotte Morgan in Runyon tied the all-time record with her go-ahead grand slam in game three over Oklahoma. This season is just the fourth in which a player has driven in at least 70 runs: Alabama Single Season RBI Record 79 - Charlotte Morgan (2008) 79 - Marisa Runyon (2015) 77 - Kaila Hunt (2012) 74 - Charlotte Morgan (2010) LAST TIME OUT: NCAA SUPER REGIONAL GAME ONE: OKLAHOMA 5, ALABAMA 2 - Alabama held the early 2-0 lead over Oklahoma in Friday s opener at the NCAA Super Regional before the Sooners broke up a no-hit bid with a five-run sixth inning to earn a 5-2 comeback victory over the Crimson Tide. Alabama took the early two-run lead off a first-inning RBI single by Jadyn Spencer and a third inning solo homer by Haylie McCleney. After falling behind, the Tide would bring the potential game-winning run to the plate but a strikeout ended the potential walk-off rally. Alexis Osorio did her part in the circle for 5.0 innings, holding Oklahoma hitless until the Sooners finally broke through with a five-run sixth inning, helped by a pair of two-run homers by Lauren Chamberlain and Kady Self. GAME TWO: ALABAMA 2, OKLAHOMA 0 - Alabama scored just two runs for the second straight game, though it proved enough on Saturday as Alexis Osorio shut down the Oklahoma lineup, holding the nation s top hitting team scoreless on just one hit, their lowest total of the season. The Tide s two runs all came on one swing, a two-run homer by Jadyn Spencer in the third inning, making her the sixth Alabama player to hit a home run so far in the NCAA Tournament this season. Sooner starter Paige Parker took the complete game loss in the circle, turning in another quality performance with just two runs allowed on two hits. GAME THREE: ALABAMA 5, OKLAHOMA 3 - Marisa Runyon, who was hitless over her previous 13 at-bats, made her final one of the weekend count, blasting a go-ahead grand slam in the sixth inning that gave the Tide a 5-3 lead, which proved final. Alabama took the early 1-0 lead before a pair of home runs by Lauren Chamberlain quickly brought the Tide down to its final six outs, trailing 3-1. A single, walk and hit-by-pitch would load the bases for Runyon with two outs in the bottom of the sixth as her grand slam propelled the Tide to its 10th Women s College World Series. 4

5 OSORIO TOP THREE FINALIST FOR NFCA FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR Alabama freshman pitcher Alexis Osorio has been named one of three finalists for the NFCA Freshman of the Year award, along with Oklahoma pitcher Paige Parker and Oregon infielder Jenna Lilley. The winner of the award will be announced on May 27 in Oklahoma City, Okla., just prior to the start of the Women s College World Series. Tennessee catcher Annie Aldrete and Auburn infielder Kasey Cooper shared the inaugural Freshman of the Year award last season. Osorio was named the SEC Freshman of the Year, Alabama s first since 2010 In her six losses as a starter, she held the opponent to four or fewer runs in five of them and four of the losses were just one-run losses in which the opponent scored no more than three runs. She was the only pitcher to have an ERA below 2.00 in SEC-only games and was also the only one to surpass 100 strikeouts in SEC play. In NCAA Tournament play so far, she has allowed just one run, unearned, on two hits with 14 strikeouts over 12.0 innings pitched. HOME RUNYON Sophomore Marisa Runyon has enjoyed an incredibly productive second half of the season, as the March 25 game against Georgia Tech has sparked a fantastic string of 32 games: She has earned a hit in 18 of those 27 games and driven in at least one RBI in 18 of those 27 games. She has four multi-homer games over those 27 games after hitting just four home runs total in the 28 games prior. The four multihomer games is a single season record at Alabama, beating Kelly Kretschman s previous record of three set in Runyon slugged three home runs in the May 2 win at Arkansas, becoming just the second player in program history to do so. The first was Jackie Traina on Feb. 11, 2011 against Western Michigan. She is now just four RBI away from tying Charlotte Morgan s single season record at Alabama Marisa Runyon Splits Pre/Post March 25 Feb. 5 - March 21 (28 Games): (.288), 11 R, 19 RBI, 4 HR March 25 - Pres. (32 Games): (.357), 26 R, 65 RBI, 15 HR PITCH PERFECT The pitching staff had some stellar performances early in the 2015 season, including two perfect games from Sydney Littlejohn and a no-hitter from Alexis Osorio. In the second game of the season, sophomore Sydney Littlejohn threw a perfect game against Eastern Kentucky at the Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Ala. It marked just the second perfect game in school history, joining current UA pitching coach Stephanie VanBrakle, who hurled the first perfect game on April 1, 2006 at Kentucky. Just over a week later, freshman Alexis Osorio hurled a no-hitter against Pacific on the final day at the Stanford Nike Invitational. The lone baserunner for the Tigers reached on a fielding error, though Osorio was perfect otherwise. It was the 24th no-hitter in school history, including Littlejohn s perfect game, and was just the fourth no-hitter thrown by a freshman at Alabama: Alabama Perfect Games Stephanie VanBrakle - April 1, W, 7-0 at Kentucky Sydney Littlejohn - Feb. 6, W, 8-0 (5 Inn.) vs. Eastern Ky. Sydney Littlejohn - March 8, W, 10-0 (5 Inn.) vs. Ole Miss PATRICK MURPHY EARNS CAREER WIN #900 The April 7 win at UAB gave Alabama Head Coach Patrick Murphy his 900th career victory. He now owns a (.780) career record. He went as the interim head coach at Northwest Missouri State in 1995 and has since earned an (.788) record in 16-plus seasons at the helm of the Crimson Tide. Since taking over as the head coach at Alabama in 1999, he has made 17-straight NCAA Tournament appearances and nine Women s College World Series appearances, including a national championship in Alabama has won five SEC regular season titles and five SEC Tournament titles as well. 7 Head Coach PATRICK MURPHY 17th Year In today s world of collegiate athletics, few can claim to have been at a program since the beginning. Not many can say they were there at the origin of a program, having been present from the very inception to where it stands today. And certainly nobody can claim to have brought a program further, and in shorter time, than Crimson Tide head softball coach Patrick Murphy, entering his 17th season as the program s leader in From a humble start to a national championship, Murphy has taken Alabama to the top of the college softball world. Beginning with his days as an assistant in the very first years of the Alabama softball program, Murphy has emerged as the face of a team that has grown under his leadership to become one of the most consistently successful programs in the nation. The accomplishments are there for everyone to see. A 2012 National Championship, 10 Women s College Northern Iowa, 1988 World Series berths, five SEC titles and 17 straight NCAA Tournament bids are only a few of the team honors that Murphy has brought to Tuscaloosa during his tenure. The individual honors are equally as impressive. Tide players have earned All-America honors 91 times under Murphy s watch. He has tutored 89 All-SEC performers and 78 NFCA All-Region honorees. His teams have been just as successful in the classroom, with 18 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and 183 SEC All- Academic selections. Even more impressively, Murphy has led the program to a surge of popularity among Tide fans. Alabama has become a regular atop the nation s attendance standings, with an ever-growing group of loyal fans who fill the stands at Rhoads Stadium throughout the season. The 2008 campaign was a sellout, setting a new benchmark in season tickets sold with more than 1,200 allocated to loyal fans. During the 2009 season, Alabama broke the single-season attendance record formerly held by Fresno State. Then, in 2010, a record total of 80,690 fans were part of the atmosphere in Tuscaloosa followed by 68,110 that took in the Tide in The previous two seasons have seen attendance top the 90,000 mark, with 91,541 fans in 2012 and 93,332 in THE PATRICK MURPHY FILE HEAD COACH - UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA RECORD: (.788) Year Record Pct.
