4 PREFACE Murrinh Niyith-niyith 1. 'These words are stories', is the first in a series of four graded reading books in the Murrinhpatha language. They are to be used in conjunction with the Murrinh-patha primer series 'Murrinh Nganki'. Murrinh Niyithniyith 1 covers materials taught in Murrinh Nganki 1. Murrinh Niyith-niyith 1 was prepared by Chester and Lyn Street of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, Australian Aborigines Branch, together with Theodora Darrnanthi Narndu. The illustrations were done by Peter Nganaye Cumaiyi, Guiseppe Nganthamurri Long, Frank Nurlurt Bunduck and Stan Yunum Ninnal.
