3 Summary In June 1982, a geological survey was completed on four mining claims in the Nb of Lot 6, Concession III, Bowman Township, Ontario. Most of the area of the four claims is drift covered, however, outcrop exposure does occur in the SWV of N^ of Lot 6, Concession III. Most of the bedrock exposure consists of porphyritic diabase with minor exposures of intermediate to basic volcanics. Areas where outcrop exposures are not present due to drift cover contain a mixed vegetation of poplar, birch and pine growth, with alders and minor bog occurring in the vicinity of a creek and beaver pond. Location and Access The property is located in the N^ of Lot 6, Concession III, Bowman Township, Ontario. It is easily accessible via a gravel road which runs north-south along the Lot 6 - Lot 7 concession line. The gravel road intersects Highway #101, h a mile west of the Matheson Townsite limits. The property is located approximately 2^ miles south of Highway #101 along the gravel road. Property The Vimy Ridge property consists of four mining claims located in the N^ of Lot 6, Concession III, Bowman Township, Ontario. These four claims have mining claim numbers L to L595147, inclusive.

4 - 2 - Previous Work A large portion of the area has been staked and prospected by various individuals and mining companies at one time or another since the 1920's. Gold occurrences are reported to have been discovered in Lots l and 2, Concession III, Bowman Township. Asarco Exploration Company of Canada Limited conducted a dual tube reverse circulation overburden drill program consisting of four holes on these four claims in They also completed ground geophysical work including a horizontal loop max-min EM survey and a proton precission magnetometer survey in Geology Only limited outcrop exposure is evident on the four claims examined in Bowman Township and here the exposure is also limited to the SW^ of the N^ of Lot 6, Concession III or claim L The remaining ground of the claim group is drift covered. A previously cut grid with north-south lines spaced 100 meters apart was used to traverse the entire claim group. A small creek flows north through the claim group and has small east-west tributaries associated with it. In the south-central portion of claim #L595146, where the creek passes through the claim group to the north, several successive beaver dams have formed a beaver pond and bog several hundred feet in dimensions. In the vicinity of the pond, creek, and tributaries, vegetation is predominantly alders and bog or muskeg swamp. The remaining drift covered areas have vegetation consisting of a mixture of pine, birch and poplar growth. The outcrop exposure in claim IL consists largely of a porphyritic diabase with phenocrysts of plagioclase feldspar and 4?; disseminated magnetite and 1-3?; disseminated pyrite. The phenocrysts are up to 2 cm. in diameter. According to D.R. Pyke, 1982, OGS Report 219, Geology in the Timmins Area, feldspar phenocrysts larger than 8 mm. in width in a porphyritic diabase generally represent feldspar aggregates and form a glom eroporphyritic texture. The diabase is dark greenish grey coloured on fresh surfaces and brown coloured on weathered sur faces. Using D.R. Pyke's classification from the above mentioned report, this diabase is probably Early Precambrian in age by mineralogy and magnetic surveys, completed earlier in 1982, suggest that the diabase possesses a north-south trend typical of the Matachewan aged dyke swarms of the region.

5 - 3 - Minor exposures of meta-volcanics are also present in claim in contact with the diabase. The contact, except for local variations trends north-south. The roetavolcanics are a dark green grey in colour and are slightly silicified and carbonated. They are well foliated, striking between 88 and 102 from outcrop to outcrop with a dip of 66 O to the south. The volcanics are intermediate to basic in composition and contain S-4% disseminated pyrite and small quartz veinlets up to \ inch wide which trend approximately parallel to the strike of the host rock and seem to be confined along the bedding or schistosity planes. Whether this foliation is due to bedding, flow banding or schistosity could not be determined from the outcrop but the author suspects it to be schistosity parallel to flow banding. No other surface exposures are present on the Vimy Ridge property, however, bedrock chip samples were recovered in four reverse circulation overburden drill holes previous to this survey. These holes, located on the geology map included, encountered intermediate to basic volcanics in three of the four holes. The fourth hole, located in the S.W. corner of claim IL595146, drilled into a feldspar porphyritic rock possibly a flow. Respectfully submitted, Alex S. Horvath
