3 Rationale Sea Level changes impact society mostly at the coast impacts on coastal management/defences changes in occurrence of extreme events SL_cci will truly be complete if and when it fills the gap between the open ocean and the coast Fortunately, coastal altimetry is now reaching the level of maturity that makes possible the extension of the Sea Level ECV to the coastal zone
4 WP2300: sub-wps focus on improvements in data screening, data filtering and corrections WP2310: improved Wet Tropo correction in the coastal zone (UoP) dedicated sub-wp as this correction has exceptional impact WP2320: screening/filtering of high-rate data and identification of other crucial corrections (NOC, with review by UoP) (excluding retracking, dealt with in WP2700) WP2330: Total relative sea level at the coast (NOC, with review by UoP)
5 (X) (X) 1 It is expected that at least some of the corrections and processing recommendations from WP2320 will apply also to those missions (GFO, Cryosat-2, AltiKa), although their data will not be directly analyzed.

8 WP2320 Improvement of screening/corrections in coastal areas Evaluate all Phase 1 corrections (except Wet Tropo) i.e. switch them on/off and compute Sea Level Evaluation is by comparison with TGs in RegA and RegB, with correlations as function of coastal distance and coastal proximity parameter Identify most significant contributors to error budget (we already expect Dry Tropo and SSB to be important) Investigation of screening and filtering of hi-rate data again by comparison with TGs, looking in particular at the correct recovery of sea level trends try different screening thresholds and strategies, various filter sizes find optimum trade-off between quality and quantity
