OREGON STATE LSU leads Oregon State, 4-1, in the five meetings between the teams, all of them coming in the NCAA Tournament... the Tigers defeated the Beavers twice in the 2012 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional... the teams met three times in the 2017 College World Series -- OSU defeated the Tigers in the second round, but LSU rebounded to post two wins over the Beavers in the semifinal round to advance to the CWS Finals versus Florida. LSU COACH PAUL MAINIERI LSU coach Paul Mainieri is in his 36th season as a college coach with six seasons at St. Thomas University ( ), six seasons at Air Force ( ), 12 seasons at Notre Dame ( ) and he is in his 12th season at LSU (2007-present) his overall record is 1, and he is at LSU... he was inducted in January 2014 into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and he will serve as the head coach of the USA Collegiate National Team this summer... Mainieri is No. 4 on the NCAA Division I active coaches win list, and he is one of only 10 coaches in NCAA Division I history to win at least 1,400 games... he earned National Coach of the Year recognition in 2008, 2009 and Mainieri directed LSU to the 2009 College World Series title, and he has also led the Tigers to CWS appearances in 2008, 2013, 2015 and he directed LSU to eight NCAA Tournament National Seeds in a10-season span and six in a row ( , )... Mainieri has guided the Tigers to seven NCAA Regional titles and five Super Regional championships...under Mainieri, the Tigers have won six SEC Tournament titles (2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2017), six SEC Western Division titles (2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017) and four SEC regular-season championships (2009, 2012, 2015, 2017)... ABOUT THE TIGERS Catcher Nick Coomes collected three hits and scored two runs Friday, and right-hander Devin Fontenot pitched effectively in relief to lead LSU to a 6-4 win over San Diego State... Coomes led LSU s nine-hit attack Friday with three singles, including lead-off base hits in the second and sixth innings that sparked three-run outbursts... Fontenot (3-0) was credited with the win after relieiving starter Nick Bush to begin the sixth inning with the scored tied at Fontenot worked three innings, limiting San Diego State to one run on two hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Friday s win over San Diego State marked LSU s 29th straight victory in an NCAA Regional opener, the longest streak in NCAA Tournament history. LSU was the No. 8 seed in last week s SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala., and the Tigers won four of five games in five days to advance all the way to the tournament final, where LSU was defeated by Ole Miss. Along the way, LSU posted wins over NCAA Tournament National Seeds Florida and Arkansas and NCAA Regional No. 2 seeds Mississippi State and South Carolina. LSU junior rightfielder Antoine Duplantis was named to the 2018 SEC All-Tournament Team, batting.370 in six games with two doubles, one triple, five RBI and eight runs scored... Duplantis is No. 1 in the SEC in base hits (88), No. 1 in triples (6) and No. 3 in stolen bases (18)... Duplantis has 267 career hits and needs five more to move into LSU s all-time Top 10 list for base hits. LSU sophomore right-hander Todd Peterson was named to the 2018 SEC All-Tournament Team after posting a win and a save in his two SEC Tournament appearances... he also helped his own cause in the May 24 game vs. South Carolina, batting for himself as the pitcher and lining a two-run double to highlight a three-run LSU 12th inning... Peterson worked the final five innings of the contest to earn his first win of the season... Peterson has five saves and a win in his last seven appearances, allowing three runs on eight hits in 12.2 innings with one walk and 10 strikeouts. LSU is No. 4 in the SEC in team batting average (.285) and the Tigers hitters have the second-fewest number of strikeouts in the league (391) the LSU pitching staff is No. 13 in the SEC with a 4.67 ERA. Senior first baseman Austin Bain leads the SEC in doubles (21), and freshman DH/OF Daniel Cabrera, a Freshman All-SEC selection, is fifth in the league in doubles with 18 and fifth in RBI with 52. Sophomore right-hander Zack Hess is fifth in the SEC with 101 strikeous, and freshman right-hander Ma Khail Hilliard is third in the conference with nine wins. LSU right-hander Cam Sanders posted three dominant relief outings in last week s SEC Tournament against Florida (twice) and Ole Miss...
