26 City of Compton Highway Safety Improvement Program Photos of Existing Conditions: Compton Boulevard Raised Medians: No raised medians exist along Compton Blvd, from Central to Wadsworth (shown above). Medians only exist after Wadsworth to Western City Limits, which is only a few hundred feet. 25
27 City of Compton Highway Safety Improvement Program Photos of Existing Conditions: Compton Boulevard Jaywalking: Jaywalking is a common occurrence along Compton Blvd. With pedestrian crossing being extremely difficult to find/locate, residents simply cross wherever they want, increasing the risk of a potential deadly accident. It s not just pedestrians that jaywalk. Bicyclists frequently cut across streets too. 26
28 City of Compton Highway Safety Improvement Program Photos of Existing Conditions: Compton Boulevard Biking on Sidewalks: Compton Blvd is largely commercial/retail and residential. With no Class II or Class III bike lanes on the Western portion of Compton Blvd, extending from Wilmington to Western City Limits, bicyclists often bike on the sidewalks (shown below) to reach these commercial destinations. This poses conflicts for pedestrians walking along the street. 27
29 City of Compton Highway Safety Improvement Program Photos of Existing Conditions: Compton Boulevard Lighting: Compton Boulevard has several large stretches in which only a few street lights are present (shown below). Lights are typically present at intersections/pedestrian crossings; however, when neither is nearby, the streets can become extremely dark during the night. 28
