2 College Algebra I Grades Connections to Algebra/Number Operations/Variables/Exponents and Powers/Order of Operations CONTENT STANDARD CA I 1: The student will build upon computational skills by exploring the different ways in which numbers can be expressed CA I 1.1 The student is able to use basic number operations applies basic number operations to real-life problems. The student is able to understand that variables can be used to 10-12CA I 1.2 express unknown quantities translates the verbal model into an algebraic model. 6 Solving Linear Equations/Problem Solving CONTENT STANDARD CA I 8: The student will be able to solve real-life problems using linear equations. The student is able to develop a problem-solving plan that fits a 10-12CA I 8.1 linear model writes an algebraic model in the form of an equation that represents a real-life problem solves the algebraic model answers questions posed in the problem and verifies feasibility of the response. Graphing Linear Equations/One Variable/Two Variables Using Intercepts/Slope-Intercept CONTENT STANDARD CA 1 9: The student will be able to graph linear equations through a variety of techniques. The student is able to construct graphs of linear equations in one 10-12CA I 9.1 variable graphs horizontal and vertical lines in the coordinate plane. The student is able to construct graphs of linear equations in two 10-12CA I 9.2 variables graphs linear equations by constructing table of values graphs linear equations using the x- and y-intercepts graphs linear equations using the slope and y-intercept.

7 Graphing Linear Equations/Graphs of Absolute Value Equations/Solving Absolute Value Equations CONTENT STANDARD CA I 10: The student will solve and graph absolute value equations CA I 10.1 The student is able to graph absolute value equations determines the coordinates of the vertex constructs a table of values using points to the left and right of the vertex graphs the absolute value equations by plotting the points obtained in the table CA I 10.2 The student is able to solve absolute value equations solves absolute value equations by separating into two equations and then using \ algebraic manipulations.

8 Writing Linear Equations/Slope-Intercept Form/Standard Form/Line of Best Fit CONTENT STANDARD CA I 11: The student will learn a variety of techniques for obtaining equations of lines CA I 11.1 The student is able to write the equation of a line identifies the equation of a line in slope-intercept form using the slope and intercept identifies the equation of a line in slope-intercept form using two points identifies the equation of a line in slope-intercept form using the slope and a point identifies the equation of a line in slope-intercept form using the point-slope form and the slope and a point identifies the equation of a line in standard form by transforming an existing algebraic equation determines the equation of the line of best fit of a scatter plot by obtaining two points and corresponding slope. Writing Linear Equations/Problem Solving CONTENT STANDARD CA I 12 : The student will be able to solve real-life problems by writing linear equations. The student is able to solve two-variable and constant rate of 10-12CA I 12.1 change problems solves real-world application problems by the creation and use of linear models.

9 Solving and Graphing Linear Inequalities/Inequalities in One Variable/Compound Inequalities/Absolute Value Inequalities/Problem Solving CONTENT STANDARD CA I 13: The student will utilize their knowledge of solving and graphing linear equations to assist in solving and graphing inequalities CA I 13.1 The student is able to graph and solve linear inequalities graphs linear inequalities in one variable using a number line solves linear inequalities in one variable using algebraic transformations writes and uses linear inequalities as a model for real-life situations CA I 13.2 The student is able to graph and solve compound inequalities graphs compound inequalities in one variable using a number line solves compound inequalities in one variable using algebraic transformations writes and uses compound inequalities as a model for real-life situations CA I 13.3 The student is able to graph and solve absolute value inequalities solves absolute value inequalities in one variable using algebraic transformations.

10 Solving and Graphing Linear Inequalities/Graphing in Two Variables CONTENT STANDARD CA 14: The student will utilize their knowledge of graphing equations to aid in the graphing of inequalities. The student is able to model a real-life situation of an inequality 10-12CA I 14.1 and is able to graph it graphs a corresponding linear equation in two variables, with dashed or solid lines, using the coordinate plane shades the appropriate half-plane.

11 Solving Systems of Linear Equations/Graphing/Substitution/Linear Combinations CONTENT STANDARD CA I 15: The student will learn and demonstrate various types of solving linear systems. The student is able to graph a system of two equations on the 10-12CA I 15.1 coordinate plane identifies the solution to a system by identifying the point (or no point) of intersection checks the solution in the original equation. The student is able to apply the substitution method to solve a 10-12CA I 16.1 system of two equations solves one of the equations for one of its variables then substitutes this into the other equation solves for each of the variables and checks the solution in the original equation. The student is able to apply the linear combination method to solve 10-12CA I 17.1 a system of two equations arranges the equations with like terms in columns multiples one or both equations by an appropriate number to obtain opposite coefficients solves and checks solution in the original equation.

12 Powers of Exponents/Multiplication and Division/Negative and Zero Exponents/Scientific Notation CONTENT STANDARD CA I 18: The student will utilize the properties of exponents. The student is able to apply the properties of exponents to evaluate 10-12CA I 18.1 powers and simplify expressions uses the multiplication property of exponents uses the negative property of exponents uses the zero property of exponents uses the division property of exponents uses scientific notation to express large and small numbers using exponents. Solving Quadratic Equations by Using Square Roots CONTENT STANDARD CA I 19: The student will explore quadratic equations and build upon prior equation-solving techniques. The student is able to solve quadratic equations through basic 10-12CA I 19.1 transformations and using square roots identifies whether there are zero, one, or two solutions to a quadratic equation identifies the solutions of a quadratic equation.

13 Polynomials and Factoring/Operations/Factoring/Solving Quadratic Equations CONTENT STANDARD CA I 20: The student will apply the basic operations to polynomials, factor polynomials, and solve quadratic equations. The student is able to add, subtract, multiply and divide 10-12CA I 20.1 polynomials adds and subtracts like terms multiplies and divides polynomials which includes the use of the distributive property and FOIL CA I 20.2 The student is able to factor various types of polynomials factors polynomials which includes undoing the distribute and FOIL properties CA I 20.3 The student is able to solve a variety of quadratic equations solves a variety of quadratic equations by factoring and applying the zeroproduct property.
