BADGERS The No. 6-ranked Ohio State men s hockey team opens a four-game homestand with a series vs. Wisconsin this weekend. The Buckeyes (6-3-1, B1G) and Badgers (5-5-0, B1G) will meet at 7 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday in Value City Arena in Columbus. Both games will be streamed through BTN Plus on BTN2Go. Ohio State radio will carry the action on 1460 AM, on OhioStateBuckeyes.com and through the Ohio State Buckeyes mobile app. Live stats, and radio and video links, can be found at go.osu.edu/mhkylivestats18. Friday, youth are invited to the ice postgame to take a shot on the Buckeye net. Saturday, Family and Friends packs, which include a ticket, hot dog, bottled water and small popcorn for each member, are available (online only, use code FAMILY). It is Hockey Hour on the concourse from 4-5 p.m. for pregame fun, $1 dog night and the full team will be available for a meet and greet postgame. BUCKEYE NOTES TO KNOW Ohio State, after going in a stretch of five-consecutive road games, returns home for back-to-back Big Ten series. The Buckeyes are tied for ninth nationally in team defense, holding opponents to 2.1 goals per game. The squad, which has an NCAA-best four shutouts, has given up four goals in its last five games combined, with three shutouts (including two at Colgate last weekend). Ohio State has not scored more than three goals in a game and is averaging 2.2 goals a contest. The squad ended a streak of five games with two or fewer goals with three tallies last Friday. Sean Romeo and Tommy Nappier split starts in the Buckeye goal each of the first five series. Each has two shutouts this season and has earned Big Ten star of the week honors. Buckeye senior Mason Jobst has 136 career points, the most by an Ohio State skater since Jobst leads active NCAA players in career points and has 82 points in Big Ten games only, the most among current Big Ten players and four back of the league career record of 86 set by Minnesota s Justin Kloos from Ohio State closes out the first half of the season with three consecutive Big Ten series, hosting Wisconsin this week and Penn State next week before two games at Minnesota Nov. 30/Dec. 1. The final nonconference games of the regular season are Dec vs. Mercyhurst in Columbus. The Buckeyes end the regular season with 16 straight B1G games. 2 LAST TIME OUT - BUCKEYES SWEEP RAIDERS Ohio State did not allow a goal in two wins at Colgate last weekend. Ohio State won the opener vs. the Raiders, 3-0. Ronnie Hein tallied in the first period and Tanner Laczynski scored late in the second and third periods en route to the win. Sean Romeo had 19 saves for his second straight shutout. The Buckeyes outshot the Raiders, In the second game, the Buckeyes claimed a 1-0 victory. Both teams were held off the scoreboard until Buckeye senior Dakota Joshua tallied midway through the third. Goalie Tommy Nappier stopped all 24 Raider shots on goal for the Buckeyes second shutout of the weekend. Each team was 0-for-4 on the power play. The Buckeyes put 36 shots on net. STATTING THE BUCKEYES Through the first 10 games, Ohio State is averaging 2.20 goals a game and allowing 2.10 per contest. The power play is 5-for-43 (.116) and the penalty kill is 32-for-40 (.800). The squad is averaging 8.8 penalty minutes a game. Carson Meyer and Mason Jobst share the team lead with eight points each. Jobst has a teamhigh five goals and Meyer is first with four assists. Tanner Laczynski is third with seven points and tied with Meyer for second with four goals. Ohio State has not scored more than three goals in a game. The team had three tallies in each of the first four games and has been held to 10 goals in the last five outings combined, hitting the three-goal mark once, scoring two goals twice and posting three one-goal games. (Stats entering this year.) IN THE POLLS Ohio State moved up one spot to No. 6 in the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls this week. The squad has been in the Top 9 in each poll this year. Joining the Buckeyes in the USCHO Top 10 are Big Ten schools No. 5 Penn State and No. 8 Notre Dame, with No. 16 Michigan and No. 19 Minnesota also ranked. Conference teams Wisconsin and Michigan State are both in the receiving votes category. The first three nonconference opponents for the Buckeyes this season are all ranked. This week, UMass is No. 4, Bowling Green is No. 10 and Arizona State is No. 18. In the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Top 15 rankings, Ohio State is joined by conference foes Penn State (5) and Notre Dame (8), with Michigan and Minnesota receiving votes. UMass is ranked fourth and Bowling Green is 10th, with the Sun Devils receiving votes. The Buckeyes started the year ranked second in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine rankings and third in the USCHO poll. The team moved into the top spot in both polls for the following two weeks, the first time at No. 1 in a national poll since WMPL Radio polls in November/December Ohio State is one of two schools with its men s and women s teams ranked in the Top 8 of the USCHO.com poll this week. The Ohio State and Minnesota Duluth women are tied for seventh, while the Bulldog men are ranked first. Providence also has two Top 10 teams, with the men ranked ninth and women 10th. SCORING DEFENSE Ohio State is allowing 2.10 goals per game overall this season, ranking ninth (tied) nationally in team defense. The squad has an NCAA-best four shutouts on the year, ahead of four teams with three each. In eight of 10 games the Buckeyes have allowed two or fewer goals (seven goals allowed in the games combined,.9 goals allowed per game). In the other two, the squad gave up 14 combined. Goalies Sean Romeo and Tommy Nappier, who split starts through the first five series, each have two shutouts for the Buckeyes. Nappier blanked Arizona State Oct. 12 and Colgate Nov. 10, with Romeo not allowing a goal at Notre Dame Nov. 2 and at Colgate Nov. 9. The back-to-back shutouts at Colgate last weekend were the first time Ohio State did not allow a goal in a series since a sweep at Alabama Huntsville Nov. 4-5, Romeo, a redshirt senior, now has four career shutouts, while sophomore Nappier has three in his career. Romeo s back-to-back shutouts marked the seventh time in program history a Buckeye goalie had shutouts in consecutive starts. Nappier accomplished the feat with a shutout vs. Wisconsin in his last game last season and the shutout of the Sun Devils in his first start of The goal Nappier allowed in the first period vs. UMass Nov. 10 ended his individual shutout streak at 195:32, the second-longest streak in program history. It was behind only the 197:06 streak by Christian Frey Dec. 18, 2015-Jan. 9, This season, Nappier is second in the NCAA with a.957 save percentage this year and ranks fourth with a 1.32 goals-against average. Last season, the Buckeyes were third nationally in goals allowed per game, giving up a programrecord 2.07 BUCKEYES VS. BADGERS Ohio State is all-time vs. Wisconsin with an ledger in Big Ten Conference regular season play against the Badgers. The Badgers have a lead in games played between the teams in Columbus, the series in Madison is tied, 6-6-2, and at neutral sites UW leads Last season, the Buckeyes were vs. Wisconsin. The teams faced off to open the campaign (the earliest conference games in Big Ten history). Ohio State won the opener 3-2 and the Badgers won game two by the same score. BUCKEYES AND WISCONSIN Ohio State head coach Steve Rohlik was a fouryear letterwinner at Wisconsin ( ) and a two-time captain, wearing the C when the team claimed the 1990 NCAA Championship. He was an assistant coach for the Badgers in Buckeye senior John Wiitala s father, Martin, played at Wisconsin from , serving as captain as a senior. He was drafted by the North 2

3 Stars in the fifth round of the 1982 NHL Draft and played professionally in Vienna, Austria. Junior Sam McCormick is a native of De Pere, Wis., sophomore Collin Peters is from Sheboygan, Wis., and associate head coach Steve Miller hails from Sun Prairie, Wis. OSU VS. UW - THE LAST SERIES Ohio State swept the last series vs. Wisconsin, with 6-2 and 4-0 victories in Columbus Feb Game 1 (Ohio State 6, Wisconsin 2): Wisconsin controlled the first period, outshooting the Buckeyes 15-6, and carried a 1-0 lead into intermission. Ohio State tied the game at one early in the second on a Dakota Joshua goal, but the Badgers scored at 16:26 to regain the onegoal advantage through 40 minutes. Ohio State opened the third period with an extended power play and tied the game at 1:41 on a goal by Tanner Laczynski. Just 41 seconds later Joshua notched his second of the night to put Ohio State ahead for the first time. The Buckeyes scored three more times before the end of the period, with Christian Lampasso, Laczynski and Brendon Kearney all tallying, for the 6-2 final. Game 2 (Ohio State 4, Wisconsin 0): After a scoreless first period, the Buckeyes lit the lamp three times in the second. Mason Jobst opened the scoring at 6:43 and notched a second straight goal at 11:19, tallying shorthanded. Christian Lampasso added a third goal 1:10 later, three seconds after the power play ended. Lampasso sealed the win with a late empty net goal. Buckeye freshman goalie Tommy Nappier made 31 saves for his first career shutout. THE WISCONSIN BADGERS Wisconsin is on the year and has a ledger in Big Ten games after splitting a series at home vs. Minnesota last weekend (L 2-3, W 3-1). The team is 1-3 on the road this year. The Badgers are scoring 3.4 goals a game and allowing 3.0 a contest. The power play is 9-for- 43 (.209) and the penalty kill is 34-for-47 (.723). Wisconsin, which averages 31.0 shots on goal a night and allows 28.6 per contest, is averaging 15.7 penalty minutes a game. Wyatt Kalynuk has a team-high 11 points and is second with five goals, behind Linus Weissbach (6). Seamus Malone is second with 10 points and shares the team assist lead with K Andre Miller with seven each. In goal, Daniel Lebedeff is 3-2-0, with a 2.03 goals-against average and.927 save percentage. Jack Berry is 2-3-0, notching a 4.19 goals-against average and.860 save percentage. B1G HONORS FOR NAPPIER Sophomore goalie Tommy Nappier was named Big Ten Third Star of the Week after backstopping the Buckeyes to a 1-0 victory at Colgate Saturday. Against the Raiders, Nappier made 24 saves for his second shutout of the year and Ohio State s second of the weekend. The game was scoreless until 10:08 of the third period, when Dakota Joshua put the Buckeyes on the board. Nappier had eight saves in the first period, 10 in the second and six in the third to preserve the win. He and the Buckeyes were 4-for-4 on the penalty kill in the game and he made seven saves on the PK. This season, Nappier is second in the NCAA with a.957 save percentage this year and ranks fourth with a 1.32 goals-against average. The shutout was the third of his career and this is his second career weekly B1G honor. This is the second week in a row a Buckeye goalie was recognized by the B1G. Two more - Tommy Parran (95) and Freddy Gerard (92) - have 90+ career games played. Jobst is tied for first among Big Ten skaters and in the Top 15 nationally with 124 career games played. The Buckeyes have eight seniors, tying for the third-largest senior class nationally. Ohio State has 16 juniors/seniors combined, matching the largest group of upperclassmen in the NCAA this year. Buckeye head coach Steve Rohlik enters the series vs. Wisconsin looking for career win No He is in his sixth year at the helm. TWO RETURNING ALL-AMERICANS Senior Mason Jobst and junior Tanner Laczynski are two of 15 returning All-Americans to college hockey this season. They both were unanimous choices for the Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch list. Jobst, an All-American in 2017, leads all current NCAA players with 136 career points (57g, 79a), the most for a Buckeye since 1999, ranking firthird nationally in goals and tying for first in assists. Laczynski, an All-American in 2018, has 86 points (31g, 55a) through his 82 games as a Buckeye, ranking 23rd among active NCAA players. Jobst has eight points this year (5g, 3a), with at least one in seven of 10 games. He had a fivegame point streak end Friday at Colgate. Laczynski, who returned to the lineup at Colgate after missing three games with injury, has a line in seven games this year. He had two-goal outings vs. UMass Oct. 20 and last Friday at Colgate. A STREAK STOPPED Ohio State opened the scoring at Notre Dame Nov. 3 but fell 2-1. It was the first time Ohio State lost when scoring first since Dec. 31, 2016 vs. Miami, ending a streak of 26 games it was unbeaten when tallying the game s first goal. Last season, Ohio State was when getting on the board first. The team is now this year when notching the game s first goal after two shutout wins last week. #PROBUCKS THIS AND THAT Four Buckeyes - Tanner Fritz (NYI), Max McCormick (OTT), Ryan Dzingel (OTT) and Ryan Kesler (ANA) - started the year with NHL teams. Other Buckeyes who began the year at NHL camps include Matt Bartkowski (MINN), Zac Dalpe (CBJ), Anthony Greco (FLA), David Gust (EDM), Josh Healey (CAL), Sam Jardine (TOR), Matt Tomkins (CHI) and Matthew Weis (VGK). Dalpe is second in the AHL in goals (12) and fourth in points (19) and was recalled by Columbus Thursday. Buckeyes currently in the AHL include Bartkowski, Fritz, Greco, Gust, Healey, Jardine, Nick Schilkey (CAR) and Weis. Five of the six seniors from the 2018 squad moved on to professional hockey, with the sixth, Christian Lampasso, completing his engineering degree this fall. Of the other 2018 seniors, Janik Moser signed with Adler Mannheim in the DEL and Weis (who also attended Vegas Knights development camp) is with the AHL Chicago Wolves. Matt Joyaux (Grand Rapids), Kevin Miller (Fort Wayne, now with Greenville) and Luke Stork (South Carolina, traded to Maine before the season) all signed with ECHL teams. Two current Buckeyes have brothers playing in the NHL - Matt Miller s brother J.T. is with Tampa Bay and Sam McCormick s brother Max is with Ottawa. Five Buckeyes on the squad have been drafted - Miguel Fidler (FLA), Dakota Joshua (TOR), Tanner Laczynski (PHI), Carson Meyer (CBJ) and Ryan O Connell (TOR). UP NEXT Ohio State will host Penn State Thanksgiving weekend. The squads will face off at 5 p.m. Nov. 23 and at 8 p.m. Nov. 24. The Friday game vs. the Nittany Lions will have a chuck-a-puck promotion and a postgame skate for fans (bring your own skates or rent for $5). Saturday fans will have the chance to register to win Ohio State gear and fans with a ticket from the football game vs. the Wolverines will receive discounted admission. 3

Alaska Anchorage (WCHA)/Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL) Major: Consumer and Family Financial Services Steve Rohlik, in his first five years as the head coach of the Ohio State men s hockey team, has led the program back into the national picture. The Buckeyes have back-toback NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Frozen Four berth in 2018 (the first for the program in 20 years). Rohlik, the 2018 Big Ten Coach of the Year and National Coach of the Year runner-up, was named the ninth head coach in program history in April 2013 after spending three years as the Buckeyes associate head coach. He has more than 20 years experience as a Division I coach and during his career has recruited and/or coached two Hobey Baker Award winners, 16 All-Americans including Buckeyes Brady Hjelle, Ryan Dzingel, Mason Jobst and Tanner Laczynski and nearly 20 players who have reached the NHL. He has a career and Ohio State record of through Under Rohlik, the Buckeyes have been outstanding academically, combining as a team to post a grade-point average of 3.0+ throughout his tenure. He has had 36 players combine for 66 Academic All-Big Ten accolades and 43 accumulate 90 Ohio State Scholar-Athlete nods. In , 20 of the Buckeyes were invited to the Ohio State Scholar-Athlete Dinner, 15 earned Academic All-Big Ten accolades and Sean Romeo was recognized with the NCAA Elite 90 Award at the Frozen Four. On the ice, the team has posted back-to-back 20+ win seasons, led the NCAA on the power play in and on the penalty kill in The team has ranked in the Top 10 in scoring offense and in the Top 12 on the power play each of the last three years. The Buckeyes allowed just 2.07 goals a game in , the best mark in program history and the third-best scoring defense in the NCAA for the year. Rohlik joined the Ohio State program in 2010 after 10 seasons on the coaching staff at Minnesota Duluth ( ) where the squad advanced to two NCAA Tournaments, including a Frozen Four appearance in 2004, and won the 2009 WCHA playoff title. He was part of the staff that put together the roster of the Bulldogs 2010 NCAA Championship squad. Rohlik coached three seasons at Nebraska-Omaha, joining the program for its inaugural campaign in In the team s first campaign as a member of the CCHA (its third year as a Division I team), the squad advanced to the 2000 CCHA Championship final. The team qualified for the NCAA Tournament each of his last three seasons and also captured the 1988 conference playoff championship. Rohlik skated in 166 games for Wisconsin, scoring 34 goals and adding 47 assists for 81 points, and received the team s Fenton Kelsey, Jr. Most Competitive Player honor in He was an eighth-round selection by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft (No. 151 overall).
