The Statesmen haven t beaten former Hobart Head Coach Dave Urick since the teams initial encounter in 1995 (12-9). WHEN LAST WE MET Facing a three-goal deficit early in the third quarter, Hobart scored three unanswered goals against sixth-ranked Georgetown to tie the contest early in the fourth quarter, but the Hoyas used a pair of late tallies to escape with a 9-7 victory at Harbin Field. Statesmen goalie DAN VALENTE was superb in the face of the relentless Georgetown attack, recording a career-high 19 saves. THAT S ODD Earning NCAA Division I Tournament bids in 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2004, the Statesmen haven t been to the NCAA postseason in an odd year since elevating the program to Division I in TWO DOWN Four of the teams on Hobart s schedule this season have never faced off with the Statesmen. Hobart is halfway through the quartet of Binghamton (W, 10-7), Robert Morris (W, 15-10), Fairfield (April 2), and St. John s (April 23). SPEAKING OF THE COLONIALS On Tuesday, Hobart jumped out to a 10-3 lead and kept the Robert Morris Colonials at bay in the second half, posting a win. The Statesmen were led by NATE HILL s six assists, while DARYL VELTMAN and CHRIS DAVID chipped in three goals apiece. KING OF THE HILL Senior attackman NATE HILL needs just 23 points to pass JAMIE BRESLIN 02 as the top scoring Division I Statesman. Hill sports 116 (48-68) career points, in 47 games, while Breslin recorded 138 (92-46) points in 52 games and is tied for 19th on Hobart s career points list. HAMBURG HELPER Speaking of Hill, the native of Hamburg, N.Y., handed out a careerhigh six assists in Hobart s win at Robert Morris on March 15. With 68 helpers to his credit thus far in his career, he ranks 12th on the school s all-time list, one shy of TOM GRAVANTE 88.

Won 4 LIVE ONLINE 3 IS THE MAGIC NUMBER First-year DARYL VELTMAN has recorded a hat trick in each of Hobart s past three games. The native of Georgetown, Ontario, leads the Statesmen in goals (10) and points (12). An exceptional lacrosse talent, Veltman played for the Canadian National team in the 2003 U-19 World Championships. TWICE IS NICE Senior goalie DAN VALENTE earned his second ECAC Defensive Player of the Week award on Monday, thanks to his 12-save effort against Ohio State. After a bumpy first quarter that saw the Buckeyes jump out to a 4-0 lead, Valente allowed just two scores over the final 45 minutes to lead the Statesmen to a 9-6 win. He also earned the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week award after posting 19 saves in Hobart s season opening 11-7 win over Butler. CONFERENCE DEBUT Hobart makes its ECAC Lacrosse League debut this afternoon against the Hoyas. The Statesmen joined the high-powered ECAC Lacrosse League this season after spending the five previous campaigns in the Patriot League. Hobart captured the Patriot League crown in 2000 and 2002 and boasted a 25-6 PL record. POLL POSITION The Statesmen moved up to No. 16 in the USILA Geico/STX Coaches Poll after their come-from-behind victory over then No. 19 Ohio State on March 12. Hobart began the year ranked 20th in the preseason coaches poll. OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN Seniors DAN VALENTE, CHRIS SCANLON, and GREG McCARTHY, and red-shirt junior NATE MOLINARI will serve as captains for the 2005 season. WATCH LIST Senior defenseman GREG McCARTHY was one of 37 players named to the Tewaaraton Trophy watch list. Awarded to the top lacrosse player in the nation, McCarthy is the first Statesman to earn a spot on the watch list. PRESEASON PRAISE Senior defenseman GREG McCARTHY was named a Face-Off Yearbook third-team preseason All-American, while senior attackman NATE HILL and sophomore faceoff specialist JOHN SODEN received honorable mention. LENDING A HAND Head Coach MATT KERWICK will lend a coaching hand as an assistant with the U.S. National Team at the 2006 International Lacrosse Federation World Championships in Canada. Denison University s Mike Caravana, University of Albany Head Coach Scott Marr, and Kerwick will assist Syracuse University boss John Desko. Those outside the broadcast area can listen online by visiting the WEOS home page, SCOUTING THE HOYAS Georgetown comes to Geneva riding a three-game win streak following a 9-8 win over Delaware on Wednesday. The Hoyas are playing their sixth consecutive game away from the nation s capital dating back to the 2004 season finale against Syracuse at Cornell. Sean Denihan and Trevor Casey lead Georgetown in the scoring column with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Goalie Rich D Andrea sports an 8.00 goals against average and a.526 save percentage. ON THE HORIZON Following today s action, Hobart will have a week to prepare for another ECAC foe, the 14th-ranked Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
